Tony tries to get Rachel to see she has a problem. Miles and Kirsty still don’t know what to do about their future. Things heat up for Nicole and Liam.
Extended Summary
After falling asleep on Harry, Rachel manages to resuscitate him, and they rush him to the hospital. Rachel wants to be involved in his care, but Nurse Julie won’t allow her. Tony is distraught over what’s happening to his family – he knows Rachel needs help, but she refuses to listen or accept any. Leah confides in Tony she believes Rachel is suffering from post-natal depression. Nurse Julie tries to assess Rachel but she knows the procedure and cuts Julie off. She’s fine.
When they finally receive the news that Harry hasn’t suffered any brain damage, they’re relieved, but Rachel still won’t admit she has a problem. Tony begs her, in a heartfelt and wrenching plea – he needs his wife, he can’t do this without her, but she needs help. She eventually admits she does and that they’re going to try and move forward together.
Miles is still struggling with Kirsty’s reluctance to get married, so he goes fishing with Alf and Ollie to take his mind off it. But he’s unable to keep quiet about the situation, and Alf is forced, reluctantly, to talk about it. Miles wonders if marriage is that important – they’re together, they’re having a baby. But Alf is quick to remind him – if marriage is what he wants, if it means that much to him then he shouldn’t settle for not having it.
In the meantime, Kirsty has been venting to Irene about the situation from her perspective – he doesn’t understand what the big deal is, but she’s worried about losing Miles. When she sees how much marriage can mean to people, through an old lady who lost her wedding ring, she changes her tune. When the two of them meet up later, both are willing to make compromises – but Miles cuts her off – he’s happy being with Kirsty, they’re having a baby, and that’s all that matters.
Unable to concentrate on study, Nicole is walking the beach when she runs into Liam and they get talking. They agree to meet later for coffee and when they do, they spend far more time together than Nicole had originally planned. She’s starting to like Liam, and the feeling is mutual. At the same time, Geoff and Aden see them together, and worried about Nicole, Geoff confronts Liam, warning him not to hurt Nicole. Liam admits he wasn’t a nice guy for a long time, but he’s learnt the hard way – he’s lost everything in his life because of it, and he doesn’t want to be that guy again. As they walk home along the beach that night, they can’t help but give into their attraction and kiss, falling onto the sand together.
