Aden is trying to be strong, but he’s alarmed at how fast Belle’s condition appears to be deteriorating. Amanda tries to take control, but it is all too late?
Extended Summary
Belle’s condition is worsening with every passing hour and those who care for her the most begin to realise her time is sadly running out. Belle and Aden are shocked when Liam returns and wants to thank her for helping him get clean. When Liam questions Belle’s health, she passes it off as the flu but Liam isn’t convinced and thinks she’s back to abusing drugs. However, Nicole sets him straight that Belle is in fact dying.
Amanda is devastated that Belle’s doctors have apparently given up on her, but Belle tells her mother there’s nothing more they can do. Amanda stresses to Aden that Belle should be in hospital seeking medical help, but Aden tells her that they have to follow Belle’s wishes and what she wants is to be at home. When Aden returns home from an outing, he’s furious to find Amanda has called an ambulance and is having Belle taken to the hospital. Belle tries to reassure Aden that it’s okay, but Aden is adamant that he’ll get Belle discharged from the hospital and brought back home.
Amanda talks to Belle’s doctor at the hospital and he explains that it became a case of quality of life or quantity of life for Belle as none of the treatments would cure her. Amanda stresses that any life is better than none and demands that they start treatment. However, Aden isn’t taking things lying down and continues to clash with Amanda over Belle’s treatment.
Sid talks to Belle about Amanda’s insistence that she be kept in hospital until a second opinion can be given, but Belle says she doesn’t want a second opinion and just wants to go home. However, Sid has a plan of attack and calls upon Rachel to help convince Amanda to let Belle go home.
With Belle discharged from the hospital and her time fast running out, Belle and Aden enjoy their final sunset together. However, when Belle suggests they go for a walk, she isn’t strong enough to make it and Aden carries her back to Irene’s. It is apparent to everyone that Belle’s final hours have arrived.
Amanda and Belle share a heart-to-heart and an emotional Amanda tells Belle that she was only trying to help earlier with the ambulance. All she wanted was to be a good mother but now it’s too late. Belle hugs Amanda and tells her she loves her before saying that Amanda was a good mother.
With her time running out, Aden carries Belle to bed and the newlyweds fall asleep in each other’s arms. However, when dawn breaks, Aden is devastated to discover that Belle has passed away.
