Jack punishes Naomi for tearing his family apart. Rachel is pressured to reveal her true feelings. Is Martha falling for Hugh?
Extended Summary
Today’s the day the winner of Colleen’s competition is announced! The person with the best entry will be awarded the position of historian for the Coast News. However, Colleen’s soon crushed by the news that Madge Wilkins has won the job. But when Alf discovers Madge’s entry was inaccurate, Colleen wins by default. She’s over the moon, and later tries to rope Alf in to being her new assistant. Strewth!
Meanwhile, Rachel is still reeling from Hugh’s confession that he loves her. But does she love him? Against Martha’s advice, Hugh presses Rachel for an answer. Unable to betray Kim, she lies to Hugh and tells him she doesn’t love him. Martha steps in to support Hugh through his heartbreak, and their friendship starts to blossom. Rachel misreads this as something deeper, and finds herself stricken with jealousy.
Concern for Lucas causes Jack to confront Naomi over her actions. He wants her to resign from the school, so as to give Lucas a chance to get on with his life. Initially she digs her heels in, but Jack eventually wears her down. However, just as she is about to resign, Brad offers her a full-time position, and she accepts. When Jack discovers this, he takes matters into his own hands – telling Brad and Sally about the affair with Lucas.
