David helps a kid in need. Sonny and Dana clash. Will Lacey get caught out?

Extended Summary

Sonny is attempting to keep up with Dana as she walks away from him. He doesn’t understand why she’s so upset, since she likes her job and didn’t know the other one existed until a couple of days ago. Dana doesn’t think Sonny would understand, since he doesn’t have a job and doesn’t pay rent. Down on the beach, Theo tells Lacey she can’t take the lesson. Lacey agrees…so announces to the class that Theo is going to be a special guest instructor. She quietly begs Theo, saying he just needs to teach them a few basics. Theo gives in and takes over the class. John watches them through binoculars.

John approaches Mali at the surf club, asking if he knows what Lacey’s doing and is happy with her performance. Mali says she’s been working for him for thirty seconds but he’s happy so far. He reminds John this is what he wanted and says to let him run the business his way. At the Diner, Justin finishes a phone call with Remi and tells Marilyn that Kirby has finished the recording. John comes in, complaining about Mali not being interested in the intel he had. Roo then comes in, having just got back. Marilyn says she’ll come home with her and Justin also takes the opportunity to go, leaving John on his own (to steal an apple).

At the police station, David tells a constable, Tom Bowman, to move on a woman squatting in a tent that the neighbours are complaining about and be respectful. Jo turns up and tells David she got the job. David is delighted and says the place they’re staying is only temporary. Later, Jo says she embarrassed herself during the interview. When David queries it, she clearly doesn’t want to give details and just says she had a wobble. They are arranging dinner when Bowman calls to say the woman isn’t co-operating. David says he has to go and Jo says she’ll meet him there at six.

David pulls up to find Bowman arguing with the woman, telling her it’s illegal to set up camp there. David steps in and gets the woman’s name, Samantha. He says there’s been trouble with the neighbours and they can find her somewhere else to stay. Bowman draws David’s attention to her car boot, where there’s about twenty mobile phones. Samantha becomes aggressive again until a boy, her son, calls out to her from the tent.

Down on the beach, Theo finishes off the class but warns Lacey that she can’t keep this quiet forever and needs to be honest with Mali. Mali comes over and congratulates Lacey, saying she obviously did a good job since the class are happy. He says he’ll show her where to hose off the boards. Theo quietly tells Lacey the truth is better off coming from her.

Samantha tells David she’s got a kid who needs to eat and asks him to turn a blind eye. David says the phones match ones that were stolen from Yabbie Creek a week ago. Samantha threatens not to come quietly. David says he’s going to pack a bag with the boy while Bowman arrests her and convinces her not to do it in front of her son.

At Salt, Jo approaches Dana who thinks the interview was a waste of time. Jo tells her she actually got the job. Dana asks if she cried in the interview to make Levi feel sorry for her. Jo says she got it from her qualifications and experience, having spent six years as a cardiac nurse. After she’s gone, Sonny appears and says he’s never been ambitious but if her career is important to her, it is to him too.

Back at the caravan park house, Roo tells Marilyn that Alf turned up in Merimbula and started talking about her being a failure as a foster parent and trying to drag Martha into it. She’s signed up again but it took months to get Eliza. At the police station, David is trying to make conversation with the boy. Bowman brings in a struggling Samantha and takes her to the interview room. The boy tries to get to her and David blocks him. After a brief tussle, he says the boy can talk to her when she’s answered some questions.

Dana explains to Sonny what a great opportunity it was and wonders what her option are now. Sonny decides to answer, suggesting chilling with him or going to South America before eventually suggesting she do what Jo did: Get some training ready for next time while doing her job. Meanwhile, David manages to get the boy’s name, Cohen. Bowman appears and tells him Samantha still isn’t co-operating but they got a surname: Luther. There’s outstanding warrants for shoplifting and break and enter, meaning she’ll have to go before the magistrate tomorrow and Cohen will need to stay somewhere overnight. Jo turns up and briefly chats to Cohen. David won’t get away for a while so she decides to get takeaway.

Theo and Lacey turn up at the surf club looking for Mali. John says he saw the class and would have told Mali if he’d listened to him. Mali appears and Lacey tells him she can’t surf and Theo had to take over the lesson. John says it’s a pity he didn’t listen to him. At the caravan park house, Roo looks at Eliza’s card, then puts it in a box of Eliza’s things that she tapes up.

Samantha tells Cohen that she’ll only be gone one night and will see him tomorrow. Bowman says it’s time to go. David and Jo look on. At the Diner, John is telling Marilyn that Mali should have listened to him but Marilyn hopes Lacey doesn’t lose the job. At a nearby table, Theo presents Mali with cookies as Lacey explains to him that she thought it was a sales and admin role. Mali admits he didn’t exactly show her the ropes. He says he can’t work with someone he doesn’t trust but believes in second chances, so asks her to stay on in a sales and admin role. Marilyn finishes a phone call with Roo and says she’ll be there soon, not telling John what it’s about.

Roo greets David at the house, saying she heard there was a new sheriff in town. After they introduce each other, David introduces Cohen, saying Roo’s his new foster carer. Cohen comes in when invited but doesn’t look happy.
