Will Kat warm up to baby Luc? John receives a diagnosis and Jett takes his dad on a mission to uncover past traumas. Can Brody stay on the wagon?
Extended Summary
Ash needs to get to the garage and in the absence of Kat’s help, Marilyn offers to look after Luc. Justin finds an aggravated Ash at the garage. He admits he’s struggling with Kat. He thought she’d be more on board with Luc, but she keeps taking extra shifts. Justin thinks it’s because she’s been thrown in the deep end with the baby, but Ash argues he has too. Justin points out it’s different for Ash, Luc’s family. Ash accepts Justin’s advice to talk with Kat about it. Kat arrives home from work to find Maz babysitting Luc. Maz offers to teach Kat how to bathe her. Ash arrives home from work and is surprised to learn Kat has bathed Luc and notes how more affectionate she is being with the baby. Kat apologises for not being around for Luc much lately, work has been full on. Today especially was a disaster, but coming home to Luc took all her worries away somehow. Ash decides they don’t need that chat anymore.
When John lies to Jett about how well his counselling session went, Jett senses he’s not telling the truth, but John deflects. Later, Alf and Jett agree that John isn’t telling the truth about counselling and Marilyn decides to pay John a visit, taking Luc with her. John admits to Maz that talking about going to counselling and actually going are very different. Marilyn tells him to stop fighting the people trying to help him, he needs to ask himself if he wants to get to the bottom of what’s wrong or not. Later, John goes back to Dr Voss and apologises for his behaviour earlier. John admits he’s been feeling down. Dr Voss explains genetics and family background help him get a picture of who John is. John realises he doesn’t remember anything before his father died when he was 12. Dr Voss informs John he thinks he has dissociative amnesia, or memory breakdown, probably caused by a traumatic event in his childhood. If John can find out what the traumatic event was, it could unlock his memories or at least help Dr Voss figure out what they’re dealing with. John is pleased he’s got a path to follow now. What’s next? John explains what happened at the counselling session to Jett. He doesn’t know how to remember his childhood. Jett suggests looking for his childhood home, but John thinks it’s too far away, near Dubbo somewhere. Jett’s determined to help though and picks up the car keys. They’re going to find John’s childhood home no matter what. Marilyn arrives with supplies for the boys’ road trip, proud of John for being so brave. She hopes they find the answers John’s looking for. The boys head out, on a mission.
Justin finds Kat grilling Brody at Salt. Brody keeps up his lie about knowing Zannis until Kat explains Brody’s all over Zannis’ phone records. Brody lied because he’ll be beaten to a pulp if Zannis learns he talked to the cops. Kat orders him to the station for a formal statement. Brody eyes the delivery of drugs partially hidden in the storeroom as he leaves. At the station, Brody denies buying anything from Zannis. Lying to Kat again he claims everything Zannis gave him was free, probably a ploy to get him hooked. Brody explains Zannis gave him a bag of gear when he had no money and told him to use some and to sell the rest to pay for it (this is the package that Buddy fell ill from). Brody was beaten up because Buddy ate the gear and the rest Justin threw out, so he couldn’t pay Zannis and he couldn’t give it back either. Kat thinks Brody’s hiding something. Is he still in contact with Zannis? Justin interrupts, they’re done. After the statement, Brody asks Justin if he can take him back to work, secretly desperate to get the drugs in the storeroom to Zannis. Back at Salt, Justin takes some food away to give to Ash. Brody thanks him for supporting him at the station and Justin invites Brody home. Justin is proud of Brody, he’s really doing well staying off the gear. Brody will think about it. Brody meets Zannis and hands the drug package over. He never wants to hear from Zannis again. Realising he’s going to lose Brody’s business, Zannis offers Brody a freebie. Brody refuses, but Zannis pushes it into Brody’s pocket. Can Brody resist? Brody goes to the garage and tells Justin he can’t move back home yet, he needs more time. Justin’s fine with that decision and won’t put pressure on him, reiterating how proud he is of Brody, he’s looking much better. Brody goes back to his car and the ice baggie Zannis shoved in his pocket falls out too. It’s empty. Brody’s fallen off the wagon.
