Extended Summary
As the uni party rages on, Evelyn starts to really let her hair down, while Matt grows more uncomfortable with the drug-addled crowd. He urges Evelyn to ease up on the booze, but she dismisses his concern yet again. Exasperated, Matt heads home, leaving Mason to watch her. After all her recent bad luck, she reckons she deserves some fun.
Kat sits at alone in the dark at home, utterly devastated by her decision to resign. Ash is shocked by the news. It’s the last thing he wanted, but she insists it was the only way she could protect his secret and still live with herself. He pleads with her to reconsider, but she’s convinced she doesn’t deserve to be a cop anymore. He can tell she’s starting to unravel, but she rejects his support and demands space. Reeling, Ash turns to Billie for help, and reluctantly reveals the truth about why Kat resigned (ie. Ash used Andy’s dirty money to save the garage from going under). Billie is shocked by the revelations. She counsels him to give Kat the space she needs, but later can’t resist reaching out to Kat herself, urging her to reconsider. Surely Kat can see that not everything’s black and white. But this just enflames Kat even more. She’s adamant that her decision is final, but once alone again she’s overwhelmed by all the pressure. Kat struggles to breath, caught in the grip of a panic attack…
Back at the party, the crowd is getting rowdier. Mason, still sober, reckons they should clear off before things really get out of hand, and Evelyn is now too drunk to disagree. In fact, she’s a mess, so Mason decides to let her sleep it off at his place, rather than let Zac and Leah see her so smashed. They arrive home just as Brody is preparing for bed. She’s quite the handful, unwilling to let the party end, but Mason is patient and caring. Brody clocks their connection, but lets it be. Evelyn drunkenly misreads the signals and tries to kiss Mason. He pulls away, kindly reminding her about their “just friends” policy. She promptly passes out.
Over at the Palmer’s, Marilyn and John are worried about Jordan. He’s withdrawn, still angry at his father about the robbery. But Aaron then surprises them by returning the stolen goods and apologising. He swears it will never happen again, and seems determined to turn his life around. Marilyn and John are forgiving, but not Jordan. For Jordan’s sake, Aaron promises he’s trying to sort his life out. Later on, Jordan opens up to John – voicing confusion about his father’s uncharacteristically selfless actions. With John’s help, Jordan realises his father is changing for the better, and maybe it would be good not to cut off contact entirely. Jordan makes the heart wrenching decision to go live with Aaron in the City. John and Marilyn are heartbroken but agree to support his decision. Fostering has been a rollercoaster for the couple, but they’re left hopeful about the future…
Evelyn awakens with the hangover from hell, and late for work! She arrives at school looking rough around the edges, and is almost sent home by Zac, but she assures him there’s no reason for concern. He soon realises otherwise – she’s tired and distracted – and some of the students even make fun of her sorry state. Zac later voices his disappointment, but Evelyn gets defensive. Zac points out that he’s not her Uncle at school, he’s her boss, Back at the Morgan’s, Brody is convinced Mason has feelings for Evelyn. Mason denies this, but Brody still counsels him to steer clear of her. According to Brody, Mason doesn’t need any more drama in his life – and neither do the Morgans. Later, Evelyn corners Mason, eager to know if she did anything embarrassing while plastered. He admits she tried to kiss him, but kindly downplays – it wasn’t a big deal, and now they’re even, right? Despite Brody’s warning, Mason can’t resist an invitation to hang out – and their bond seems stronger than ever.
