Chris Phillips has worked as screenwriter, script editor and story producer in Australian network television for over twenty years.

Chris began as writer for pub theatre in 1990 when she co-wrote and performed in Lunch Girls and Bad Girls at the Harold Park Hotel. In 1992 she studied at The Playwrights Studio at NIDA. In 1994 she received development funding from Film Victoria for her romantic comedy feature, Love Smarts and at the same time began her television writing career after a successful spec submission to Neighbours.

Chris went on to write for some of Australia’s highest rating dramas including All SaintsBlue Heelers, McLeod’s Daughters, Something in the Air and Heartbreak High.

Chris also worked as a lyricist for Hi-5 on their multi-platinum selling albums, with many of the songs she wrote winning international awards including five ARIAs.

In 2010, she became the Script Producer for Fox8’s teen drama, SLiDE which was nominated for an International Emmy Award.

In October 2013, Chris was hired as the new script producer of Home and Away. Her first episode aired on 30th June 2014 (Ep#5996) and her final episode aired on 13th October 2014 (Ep#6070). At the beginning of 2014, she moved into the role of story producer, with her final episode as part of the in-house team airing on 5th February 2015 (Ep#6125). During her time, she oversaw Casey’s death, John and Marilyn’s wedding and the bus crash, as well as the introductions of Ash and Kat.

After her departure from Home and Away, she began focusing solely on her film and television production company that she had set-up with fellow writer / producer and director, Steve Vidler. The company, Sidekick provides screenwriting and development services in film and television.

Chris has a Master of Education and a Diploma of Positive Psychology. As well as creating and developing projects for Sidekick Pictures she teaches Embodied Mindfulness programs for a range of organisations.
