Home and Away: The Early Years

Yeah, we'll find out when they reach episode 623.

But...with the dedication 7Two hhas shown so far, even if there are contractual reasons not to show 1990-1996, I think it's likely they might then jump to the 96 episodes as ITV2/Living did years ago. I would rater be able to see 90-96 than have a jump, but it would be better for them to show 96 onwards than just stopping the repeats altogether. Here's hoping!

I think the 'Michael' thing was just a coincidence... I can't imagine Dennis Coard going as far as to stop his episodes being shown when his wife is willing to appear in new episodes from time to time...

My theory is that at the time (2001/2002, whenever it 'jumped') the "we can't show episodes that are over 5/6 years old" rule kicked in and hence, ITV2 jumped to mid-1996 and Seven stopped showing them altogether. Obviously now, that rule doesn't apply....

I honestly doubt they'll skip ahead again. I hope not anyway!!! Mid-1996 is the point I'd be okay for them to STOP airing the not-so early years, with most of the famous mid-90's stuff out of the way by that point, but to jump there and skip the BRILLIANT 1995 season would be cruel :P

I agree, it wouldn't sit right with me for them to just skip to the middle of 1996 either, yeah it would be good to watch episodes from that era onwards, definitely, but missing out all of the early 90's and 95 would be insane and so frustrating.

I doubt they would skip it like that on 7TWO, it just seems like a strange thing to do. I'm slightly anxious though that they might take the early years off air at the start of 2012, especially since it coincides with the time they axed the early years last time on 7.

There is a new channel being launched on Sky television in the UK, and it has stated it will be airing a classic Australian soap opera, the name of which is still to be confirmed. But it could be H&A. The channel is called Sofa Stars. More info can be found here.

Exciting times!

The only thing that might rule H&A out is that the pilot is 90 mins long and the Australian Soap slot (inc. adverts) is only 30 mins long. They would either have to show the pilot in five parts or start from the first 20 min episode.

The first 20 min episode contains an extended length recap of the pilot so although it would be a shame to miss it, it would not be a big deal. Anyway the pilot episode is availible on youtube and tapes and dvds on ebay and I'm sure other places for anyone who really wants to see it.

  • 2 months later...

We don't know. I think we're about 6 months away from finding out.

623 is the episode they stopped at last time.

651 is Michael Ross' first episode (though my guess is that the Michael Ross in previous repeats time gap is just coincidence)

It was the ITV2 repeats I believe that jumped to 1996. Australians have never had repeats past 623. Something else, but probably wrong, but the last Early Years episode aired the day the Mirigini sank - it may have been that the repeats were supposed to lead up to that reunion.

Considering Ryan that the last Aussie rerun began in 1999 i don't think so i mean they couldn't have been 3 years ahead in planning surely
