Extended Summary
Grant struggles as he steps in to make the best man’s speech at Ben and Carly’s wedding reception at the surf club. Gina says he’s doing it all wrong but Antonio tells her he’s doing a better job than Angelo. Gina is riled; when she sees Angelo and Adam their lives won’t be worth living!
Adam arrives at the store where Marilyn is reading a book, presumably because all the customers are at the wedding! He breaks the news to Marilyn that the wedding was called off (as he believes) and asks Marilyn to give Carly’s ring to Alf as he’s getting out of town for a few days.
Making his speech, Alf tells Ben and Carly that he and Ailsa are giving them a honeymoon. Grant reads telegrams from Neville and Floss, and Dave (who suggests he and Ben will both be on night manoeuvres, which Grant finds extremely hilarious). Ailsa heads to the store to get more mineral water. Adam hides from her but overhears the good news that the wedding went ahead.
Grant reads a telegram from Carly’s father and sister, Samantha, with a barbed comment that they weren’t invited. There is a flashback to Tom telling Carly she should tell her father she’s getting married, and Carly agreeing so long as Tom gives her away. Ben stands up to make his speech but Carly interrupts him, explaining that the Fletchers are her real family.
Adam discovers Angelo at the beach and tells him what he thinks of him. On learning the wedding went ahead, Angelo wants to head to the party but Adam is determined to leave town.
At the reception, Francesca cuts in on Marilyn’s dance with Grant. Marilyn complains to Donald and asks him to dance with her instead. They have a good time dancing; what a great couple they would make!
Carly gets changed at Summer Bay House and tells Pippa she meant what she said about her and Tom being her real parents. She thanks her for everything and they hug.
Angelo arrives at the reception and convinces Gina and Antonio that he has been driving around, looking for Ben. Ben lets him off the hook, but Francesca punches him to the ground for grabbing her backside and almost ruining the wedding.
Outside, Carly throws her bouquet. Grant catches it and throws it to Bobby who throws it to Francesca. Ben and Carly say their goodbyes and leave for their honeymoon in Alf’s Range Rover. They come across Adam walking along the road and pull over. Ben tells him he owes him… so he wants him to clean the muck off the car and then get back to the surf club and enjoy the party!
Steven rescues Grant from Francesca’s clutches at the reception. Jane has apparently been held up on duty. The Lucinis are leaving and Bobby drags a very drunk Donald away (but he’s not too drunk to quote poetry at Pippa).
Grant returns to his caravan and turns the radio on, as does Donald at his house. A news report comes on, but Grant has fallen asleep. A policewoman has been shot during a siege at a house in Yabbie Creek and is in critical condition. Is it Jane?
