Yabbie Creek Train Station (1991)

Description

In October 1991, Sophie Simpson and Simon Fitzgerald headed into the city to see a Ratcat concert, opting to drive into Yabbie Creek on Michael’s advice and take the train from there. Simon accidentally purchased single tickets, and later didn’t have time to purchase additional tickets for their return as they rushed to catch the last train back to Yabbie Creek, leaving them in trouble with the station attendant when they disembarked. 

The filming location used was the Hawkesbury River railway station in Brooklyn, which stands on the Main Northern and Central Coast & Newcastle lines from Sydney. The station stands a short distance south of the impressive heritage-listed Hawkesbury River railway bridge.

The town of Brooklyn would later have occasional use for some Summer Bay locations in 1995 and 2009, including the first incarnation of Travis’s House, and in later years would also stand in for scenes set in Mangrove River.
