Guest characters who would have made great regulars

Which guest characters do you think would have been great regular characters and what would you have done with them storyline-wise?

Phil and Stacey - they appeared as frequently as the regular cast for a while, but they should have stayed longer. I would loved to see them get married and start a family, perhaps taking in a stray to parent; maybe a neglected teen from one of Gordon's friends who Stacey sympathises with because they had a similar upbringing. We've had a regular doctor on the cast since 2001, when Charlotte Adams arrived, so he would always serve a purpose.

Bob Barnett - the 80s had a number of long-term recurring characters (i.e. Colleen, Narelle, Alison, Andrew Foley), but Bob Barnett was always my favourite. I loved his almost-romance with Celia, so perhaps if he was a regular, that could have been explored more. Bob Barnett was the most competent cop Summer Bay has ever had and around in the days before corruption. His son could have become a regular too, perhaps rounding out the Emma/Steven/Viv teen group.

Diana Fraser - I feel like if she had a stint as a regular, it would be very similar to Morag's 1989 one. She would have worked well as the show's villain, but back in those days, there were no "bad" characters in the regular cast.
Chris Polous - He would have made a great addition and fleshed out Leah's character a bit more, but he probably wouldn't have done more than any other 20 something has done.

Alan Fisher - such a waste killing him off early in the series, especially as Donald would stick around as a regular until 2003. A regular stint in the 90s would have been great

Rebecca Fisher in 1989 - I would have happily forgone Viv or Emma in favour of Rebecca back then.

Dean? - I think that was his name. Matilda's friend from therapy. A regular gay teen would have been good, but sadly, the show seems really reluctant to go there.

The Pattersons - Mav and Sky would have been good as long-term characters, perhaps fleshing out Vinnie a bit more. He never had any regular family members during his time on the show, only guest appearances from his parents and cousins.

I liked Bob and his son. What happened to them?

i agree, Alan would’ve made a great regular. No idea if the actor wanted to leave but I always got the impression that had he not been killed off, there was no other way to unite Frank and Bobby at that time. The whole storyline was rushed so I’m wondering if Alex had already discussed leaving.

i personally enjoyed Narelle over Marilyn, shame she didn’t stay on.

I read in a Home and Away book that the producers expected Phil to be a replacement for Frank but his popularity never hit that peak so he was killed off.

As with Kit, technically Skye Peters (as opposed to Skye Patterson, who I think has also been suggested) was a main character just only for a few months.

Melody Jones

Lottie Ryan

Rosie Cartwright

(Yes, okay, I obviously have a thing for blondes with emotional problems...)

Oh really? I much preferred him to Frank

I wonder if they would have kept Stacey on if Phil had been successful

Bob presumably left town but was alluded to for a bit before  Chris Hale  took over his position. Rob Baxter came back to play different characters, Fred Archer (1994, 1996) and the Bus Driver in Hearts Divided (Put on a fair few pounds between those stints! ?)

Narelle and Maz probably would have become good mates.

I personally wasn't a fan of Stacey, maybe it was the actress that played her...I dont know

In my opinion, a lot of the storyline with Steve/Phil should've happened between Steve/Frank,  would've been nice to see their relationship develop

that a bit hurtful Mason is a great character and Orpheus does an amazing job playing him

That doesn't mean it wouldn't be a great story line... I don't say it in a Mason sux and should die sense. It makes it more tragic when a great character dies. And Mason giving Beth his heart both metaphorical and literally would have been a beautiful story.

I would expect Mason would be an organ donor - both because of his Med student back ground and because of the experience with Beth.

(I'm expecting one of the Morgan's will die) When the time comes, I'd love Mason's exit story to be as an organ donor - that would nicely tie up that story arc. As well as potentially promote real life discussions about an important issue

I loved Melody. For me, she was one of those people that you couldn't help but watch whenever she was on camera.

One of my favourite guest characters was June Reynolds. She had a big heart and a big, fun personality, much like Floss.
