Michelle was the mother of Colby Thorne, by her first husband Andrew, and Bella Nixon, by her second husband Ross. She had been in the same school year as both Ross and her friend Karen Thompson.

Although unseen on-screen other than in photographs, Michelle was heard in a dictaphone recording provided to Colby by Karen, where she fought with Ross about Colby and ultimately learnt that Andrew had been killed by Ross. Not long after the recording was made, Michelle was murdered by Ross and buried in the backyard of their farm.
