Extended Summary

Karen rambles somewhat as she reminisces about Michelle, saying she was full of life before she met Ross. Colby tries to bring the conversation back on track and Dean tells her it’s important. Karen says Ross was looking for Colby but she had nothing to tell him and wouldn’t have said anything anyway. Colby thinks there’s more and Dean also presses her for information. Karen says they don’t want to know and rushes back inside, asking for a glass of water. At the Diner, Roo and Marilyn discuss the success of the fundraiser. Leah joins them as they discuss the article in the Coastal News and Maggie’s desire to make the fundraiser an annual event. They make plans to meet up at Salt that evening to discuss it.

Justin is standing on the beach, looking out to sea. John joins him and says it’s not that bad, referring to the surf. Justin says at least it might clear his head. Later, Justin is lying on the sofa as Mason comes home, celebrating finishing his final exam. His mood quietens a bit when he sees Justin, who admits he hasn’t spoken to Willow. Justin asks about the exam and Mason says he thinks he did all right. He says he’s going clubbing with friends to celebrate and needs to get ready. Justin goes to his room.

When Karen rejoins Colby and Dean, Colby again presses for information, getting more and more aggressive as he asks for any information about Ross that she can give him. Karen eventually snaps and tells him his mother’s dead. Meanwhile, Mason is playing loud music as he gets ready which Justin can hear. Mason asks him if he wants to go for a drink before he meets his friends. Justin initially declines but after a few moments sat on his own he changes his mind.

Dean attempts to console Colby, who is having to face the fact he won’t see Michelle again. Karen rejoins them and tells him Ross said he killed her and was also making threats about Colby. Colby is furious about the fact Bella is alone with a murderer and says Karen should have told him somehow, demanding more information. A frightened Karen tells the staff to take her back to her room. Later, Dean approaches Chelsea near the Diner; Colby is in the car and Dean tells Chelsea to go easy on him. Chelsea asks Colby what’s going on and he says Ross killed his mother.

At Salt, despite his earlier reluctance, Justin is knocking back the drinks and saying coming out was the best thing he could do. Mason notes that he’s meant to be meeting his friends, but when it becomes clear Justin intends to carry on drinking without him, he decides to stay. Justin says the drinks are on him. At the Diner, Marilyn is touching up her make-up while waiting and John says you can’t improve on perfection. Roo turns up with a reluctant Alf. Leah emerges and says Maggie can’t make it so Alf takes the opportunity to duck out and go fishing. John suggests the rest of them go to Salt anyway. They tell Irene it’s a shame she can’t come but she says someone has to hold the fort.

Up in the flat, Dean tells Chelsea that Holsten doesn’t have any more leads and they got nothing from Karen. Colby insists they have to make plans to get Bella. Dean and Chelsea try to reassure him that she’s a survivor but Colby points out she’s been living alone with a murderer for five years. Dean decides to go and get burgers. Colby laments to Chelsea that he had a fantasy of getting his family back but can’t fix this. Outside, Dean gets a call with no ID which turns out to be Karen at the hospital. She apologises for earlier and says she’s remembered something: He needs to go back to their place. Dean tells her it’s been cleared out but, when she mentions the suitcase where he found his old things, says he’s got it in the car boot and asks what he’s looking for.

Mason stops Justin moving onto shots. John, Roo, Marilyn and Leah come in and Justin invites them to join in the celebration but Mason quickly steps in and the four take a table instead. Roo notes Justin is knocking them back. Marilyn tentatively suggests he’s just proud of Mason but John says he’s proud and plastered. Later, Leah goes to the bar; Justin is there alone while Mason’s in the toilet. She orders a pina colada and Justin notes he’s never had one. She says she’s sorry about Willow. Justin says he needs someone steady but sexy…like Leah, stroking her hand and her hair. Leah beats a hasty retreat as Mason returns.

Dean, Colby and Chelsea search through the suitcase at the flat. Dean thinks what they’re looking for isn’t there but when Colby suggests checking the lining Dean finds a police issue dictaphone; Colby recognises his father’s ID number on it. They play it and hear Ross demanding Michelle pack quickly, saying Colby’s causing trouble and if they don’t leave then he’ll have to stay and take care of him. As they listen, Dean notes Michelle seems to be pushing Ross’s buttons, trying to get him to say something. Michelle tries to get Ross to leave without her and Ross says if she doesn’t do what he says he’ll put Colby in the ground like he did her copper husband. Colby is furious that Ross killed both his parents. Dean offers to get the River Boys together; Colby thinks they won’t help a cop but Dean says they’ll help him and Bella. Chelsea insists they need to go to the police: The recording proves Ross is a cop killer and even Neil can’t refuse to help them now. Colby agrees.

Mason leads Justin onto the balcony at Salt. Justin says it’s all Nina’s fault: The problems started when she made Willow break up with him and she got back involved with Dean. Mason snaps that Justin caused the situation and needs to own it. Justin says he’s right and staggers back in. Bumping into the others’ table, he tells Leah she’s a ray of sunshine but Willow’s the one for him. Leah is amused. Justin heads to the beach house with Mason in tow, hammering on the door and demanding to see Willow. An angry Irene answers and tells him Willow’s not even there. Justin seems set to sit outside and wait for her but Irene threatens to call the police and Mason leads him away.
