Ed heads to Summer Bay

Ed Sheeran recently filmed a cameo for Home and Away

British music star Ed Sheeran today filmed a cameo appearance for Home and Away. The singer-songwriter was spotted at Palm Beach filming a scene with Emily Symons (Marilyn) and Alec Snow (Matt), before heading back to the city by seaplane to film further scenes at the Seven studios in Eveleigh.

A Seven spokesperson confirmed that Ed was appearing as himself, but added that whatever brings Ed to Summer Bay is being kept under wraps for now. The scenes will air later this year.

Ed is currently in the middle of a national tour of Australia, and will be playing three shows in Sydney this week before heading to Melbourne.

Ed is by no means the first to musical star to drop in on Summer Bay. Australian music icon John Farnham famously visited Summer Bay House in 1988, when Sally Fletcher was unable to go to a concert she had won tickets for due to having chickenpox, and sang at her bedside in a rather surreal scene.

In the 1997 season finale, Rebecca Fisher organised for her old friend, Australian singer-songwriter Sia, to sing at her wedding to Travis Nash, who performed a song that she wrote especially for the episode.

In 2001 British popstars Jenny Frost & Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitten made a cameo appearance when Nick Smith found himself lost outside a London theatre.

In the 2004 season finale, Australian Idol finalist Paulini visited Summer Bay to perform at the opening of Noah’s Bar. Continuing John Farnham’s tradition, she later popped in to Summer Bay House to sing for Baby Pippa, whose christening had been cancelled following a fire at the church.

More recently when the Braxton clan visited London in 2013, Ricky Sharpe worked on a photoshoot for British singer Eliza Doolittle.
