As much as I love the original Bayside Diner for sentimental value, I have to admit seeing it on screen again, out of all the sets on the show it is the one that looks most like a set. And it's not very believable as a cafe really. The kitchen looks really unprofessional, just like the kitchen in a house really. Maybe catering laws weren't quite so strict then. And the drop-in centre... that room doesn't even look like it's part of the same building, it looks like someone's lounge room that's been converted into an office. And random kids trapsing in and out through the kitchen to access it? Why didn't they use the space that Marilyn later used as her beauty chamber? I know that, it's just funny that when Marilyn returned, coincidentally Ailsa suddenly had a spare storage room through a door that suddenly appeared! Meanwhile the actual spare room behind the kitchen had been forgotten about and blocked off. Either the writers had forgotten about it or decided it was too impractical to access via the kitchen. c120701 Posted July 3, 2011 Report Share Posted July 3, 2011 I've been watching some of the old episodes online and couldn't believe how quickly the Diner opened - Ailsa suggests opening a drop-in-centre to Bobby, then it's mentioned as being a coffee shop, then the next thing Ailsa is busy setting up the place which is already decorated with the exception of the kitchen. We then see a sign going up for the 'Grand Opening' and Ailsa mentioning it but that's all skipped and it's just open. I think if you notice at the start of the episodes towards the end of 1988, there's some gaps in time between the episodes.
