on the other side - 50+, I suppose - well, I hope. I am tired that H&A is so unrealistic when it comes to age, everybody seem to have children at the age of 14.... Hugo was meant to be around 30... Menopause is more realistic when it comes to Gina. My mother was in her menopause when she was 46, and a lot of women are at that age. A baby at 47 is really uncommon, well one of my grandmothers was 45, but that is also very very old. You are supposed to be an old mother when you give birth after 35. Hugo was lot younger than the actor that was playing him.

No Roman is in his mid 30s. He had Nicole at the age of 16 and Roman must been youngest granddad.

Irene getting new storyline? I wonder what it is. I missed Irene when she went away to the UK and I always find it lovely how when Lynne goes on promo every 2 years and when she is interviewed she always talks so postively and is so devoted to Home and Away. I could not believe my ears when I heard someone say that Irene should get axed I know she may not have biggest storylines all the time but she is the backbone and heart of the show and I like having characters who are just being themselves and like being a supporting character.

14. Charlie was born in 1979 and Ruby was born in 1993.

When has she been a bully?

Why did they move Leah's house Location and it stitl looks the same house?.

Does anyone think Charlie will become a mainstay character like Leah/Irene?

, what are you going to do with her? She's got no job, not many friends, and while she hasn't exactly shone as a parent figure for Indi and Dex, I'm not sure it would be improved by having her hang around the caravan park not really doing anything, which is mainly what happened until she and Sid got together.I think that would actually make the caravan park seem like a dumping ground for characters who don't fit in anywhere else again after they did start to seem like a family last year, . I disagree with every word. Marilyn is friends with Irene, Leah, Gina, Colleen (sort of). And she runs the Juice Bar. I think it's time she moved back in with Irene and that they have some storylines together. And I think she doing a pretty good job with Dexter and Indi and she doesn't want to be acting too much like their Mum. Was the "sort of" for everyone or just Colleen?I can't remember her exchanging more than the most basic of pleasantries with Leah or Gina and Irene only just squeezes in because they were friends 15 years ago. She's spent more time with the likes of Miles, Nicole, Alf or Angelo than a random bunch of women over 30.To be fair, though, you could say that about most HA characters, they all seem to have one or two friends at best. Not sure if she's still working at the juice bar or not, probably not, John seems to be running it and she mentioned earlier in the year her fortune telling business had failed. I accept Marilyn's done a pretty good job with Dex, maybe more so than Sid.Not so sure about Indi, she doesn't seem to have the same close big sister-type relationship with her that she did with Nicole and her advice has been a bit oft kilter. Moving her in with Irene would be as good/bad an idea as moving her into the caravan park house but it suffers the same problem that it would be hard to create a family feeling about the household and just make it seem like a random collection of characters living together. I mean she's starting to be sort of friends with her [Colleen].

^ which is precicely why I hated this storyline from the second Nicole told Marilyn "I'm pregnant." Because it was obvious what was coming - and there's only one way a storyline like this can play out, and I knew what it meant for Marilyn. Maybe I'm just naive but it really didn't occur to be that Marilyn would try to get her hands on the baby.I assumed she'd just be a supportive friend to Nicole, which she actually seemed to be fairly good at last year. Then I read the spoilers for premiere week and thought "You have got to be joking."My hatred for Marilyn pretty much kicked in then and hasn't really abated. The thing is...if you split Marilyn and Sid up , what are you going to do with her? She's got no job, not many friends, and while she hasn't exactly shone as a parent figure for Indi and Dex, I'm not sure it would be improved by having her hang around the caravan park not really doing anything, which is mainly what happened until she and Sid got together.I think that would actually make the caravan park seem like a dumping ground for characters who don't fit in anywhere else again after they did start to seem like a family last year, . What episode number is when the whole town thought Alf and Colleen were getting married? Thanks. I could do with a laugh.

Her fun side returned last night and Marilyn should maybe break with Sid if it means her fun character will return. But I like family unit and Marilyn is like a mother to the kids. I don't want Ruth to be ruined after Geogie has made Ruth great character with out being a cow.

What do you mean by slow down though? I think you miss my point when I say just becuase you get older doesn't mean your personalty diminishes or is toned right down to almost opposite. If you say daft things or laugh at silly words or get your own words mixed up every now and again for all of your life, you dont suddenly stop because you live in a house with teenagers (Colleen is an example of this - she is older and yet even more eccentric than she ever was). Even if that was humanly possible (to suddenly change), dont you think it is boring to strip a unique fun character of their personalty and turn them into yet any other wise old role model? I thought I read that you said you had gotten bored with Marliyn, maybe this is the reason. Besides she isn't a role model in the show, no one goes to her for advice, they go to have a friendly chat with her now and again but she isn't written as a motherly figure. I'm glad about that too, I dont want them to try and turn her into Pippa becuase that isn't the character. She was the one who needed advice from friends and whilst she could at times come up with some poignant and quirky things to say to people that helped them out, it was usually done unintentionally (which made those moments quite sweet) ending with dialogue like 'Thanks Maz' 'For what?' 'Being you'...and Marilyn is left oblivious. I never said I got bored with her. Okay well, look at Susan on Neighbours. I was watching episodes from 1999 and Susan was a lot stonger in personality and seemed more active. But then I watched her now and she's slowed down so much. But put yourself in Marilyn's shoes. She's now kind of a step mother to Indi and Dexter and I guess she wants to try and be a role model to them. And while I am sure we will still her fun side from time to time I think the producers want to try and balance between her fun side and her more serious side.

I understand where you are coming from guys but like I said last tme Marilyn is more of role model now and a parent. I am more than sure we will see her being dizzy now and again but you have to accept that it's realsitc that most people slow down as they get older.

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? Saying that Gina didn't give him respect. It's very hard to have a son like Brendan. It's really amazing on this forum that people seem to dislike Gina no matter what. What has she ever done to deseve such hate? I love Gina and I just think she is a character who has high morals of herself and wants to help people.

But you have to understand Marilyn is more mature and older and sort of becoming like a parent and role model towards the Walkers and Nicole. It's like Irene when she was back in the 90s used to wear short skirts a tiny bit more loose. Now in 2011 Irene would not be seen dead in a small skirt because she is a first class lady now. The same could be said about Leah. She used to be very hypo when she frist arrived but now she's not. I think its realistic that characters change as they get older.

Leah Patterson/Baker - Ada Nicodemou
j.laur5 replied to Skykat's topic in Character/Actor Discussion
Yeah I see what you mean and I much rather Leah go for council. She has lived in Bay for about 12 years longer than him or Irene who has almost been living in Summer Bay for 20 years. -
That's what I've been wondering for a while because he's been there for a long time. But I say not because they already have lots of older regulars at the moment which is good.

Hey Laura. I hope you've been well!

Why do they no longer have purpose?.
-
I would like Jodi to make a guest appearance now that her mother Roo is back.
-
She would have been too young to play her.

I'd have thought that my last post was self explanatory, but if you didn't understand why I wrote what I wrote, I'll spell it out for you. I do think she was axed, for reasons I've posted on here previously. No offense, but please scroll back to see the discussions, because they are too detailed to keep repeating. I expressed it as I did, through a direct comparison with what I saw happening to similarly aged characters on Neighbours, to highlight the fact that directors can, and do, pick favourites. I also picked those 2 because I think it's pretty clear the director got it wrong. The opposite of picking favourites is also true, they marginalise characters by employing the devices, on H&A just the same as on Neighbours, that I explained in my post. Another recent example of this in action would be Rachel and Tony sidelined by a lack of storylines. Saying this might make some think that I'm strengthening the argument that Charlotte left because she was bored/frustrated etc. But if you look at it from another angle, that of the 'management'; - that they had little interest in her or her character, so they didn't develop it because they knew they weren't going to renew her initial contract when it finished - that fits the evidence that we have about her departure. There is, as far as I know, no evidence at all that she quit. Do you know, I think you may have point. Annie was pretty much just a sidekick of Ruby most of the time. I think her character was simlair to Lynn where they no longer knew where to take the character. That can sometimes happen a younger characters if they are not supposed to be a typical young teen girl like Carly, Angel, Danni and Nicole.
