Adam realises that Grant Mitchell is a force to be reckoned with. Al Simpson’s lies ensure that Fisher will be accused of the deliberate murder of Shane Wilson.

Extended Summary

The police car carrying Fisher and Matt drives out of town, passing Sally and one of her friends on their bikes. Back at the house, Ailsa tries to encourage Bobby over events. She says it’s a good job that Viv is staying at a friend’s, since they don’t need to explain it to her until later. She’s certain Fisher will get bail, after which they’ll set a date for the trial, and thinks his past record will count in his favour. Bobby, however, is worried Al will make things worse for him. Ailsa thinks Al will only incriminate himself but Bobby says they need to prove Fisher was being blackmailed. She asks how Ailsa coped and Ailsa admits she was harassed after killing her father but what she really needed was the support of her family. She decides to call Morag, since she owes Fisher a favour.

Carly is reading a magazine when Tom arrives home with some groceries and trips over the vacuum cleaner, left in the middle of the floor. Carly says Sally’s fixing it. Sally arrives and tries to tell them what she saw. Grant arrives and asks to rent a caravan. Carly is quick to offer to show him the way while Sally manages to tell Tom she saw Fisher and Matt in a police car. Carly shows Grant to his van, giving him information about town and offering to show him the beach. Sally shows up and asks to come too; Carly tries to put her off but Grant doesn’t mind. After he’s gone inside his caravan, Sally asks Carly if she’s asked Grant out yet.

At the Diner, Adam moans to Emma about Grant, saying he’s sure to beat him. Alf is amused by the whole situation, especially since Emma obviously fancies Grant, and comments on how Adam’s scheme has backfired. He compares Grant to Grant Kelly, a famous Ironman who Emma has never heard of. He wonders what’s happened to Ailsa and asks Emma to hold the fort at the Diner, saying he needs to drum up some interest for the Ironman competition. Adam points out that’s their job and he and Emma leave Alf to hold the fort.

Sophie arrives back at the caravan with beer for Al and tells him she saw a police car heading their way. They are both nervous but Al tells her to stick to the story he gave her. Detective Hunt arrives and questions Al about Fisher’s allegations of extortion. Al says he saw Fisher kill Shane in cold blood, although he can’t provide a motive, and Fisher threatened him into keeping quiet. Hunt isn’t convinced, wondering why Al came back to town if that was the case, but Al says he has a daughter to support and decided to look up some old faces. After he’s gone, Sophie is still worried but Al thinks that, since he hasn’t been arrested, they’ve got away with it.

Tom and Sally congratulate Carly on her first decent meal, even though she just heated up something Celia had made. Tom gets a phone call from Celia saying Fisher has been arrested and Sally reminds him of what she saw. Tom decides to call Bobby and find out what’s going on. At the Diner, Ailsa fills Alf in on events and admits she’s known about it for a couple of days. Alf is astonished and thinks Fisher should have come forward. Bobby goes to see Matt at the surf club and asks him how he’s doing. Matt tells her that, accident or not, Shane’s dead and he doesn’t know how to tell his parents it’s been dragged up again. He asks her to leave.

Next morning, Adam and Emma are on the beach with Adam trying to convince Emma to get information on Grant for him, saying it’s their best chance of getting the holiday to Bali. Grant is meditating on the beach nearby and Emma goes to sit with him. They chat while Grant does warm up exercises and Emma admits she’s still at school. Grant strips down to his trunks and heads into the water. Emma re-joins Adam at the surf club but can’t provide much information beyond the fact Grant is staying at the caravan park. Adam convinces her to help him again.

Bobby meets Ailsa at the Stewart house; they’re on their way to the court. Bobby notes that Celia is staying out of it but she is aghast to realise Alf isn’t going either. Ailsa asks Bobby to wait outside and tries to convince Alf that Fisher needs their support. Alf replies that if he goes he’ll be condoning what Fisher did. Ailsa reminds him that she killed someone but Alf points out she didn’t walk away from what she did. Ailsa gives up and leaves.

Sally finds Grant in the caravan park and tells him Emma’s on the phone for him. Grant isn’t interested until Sally points out Carly will be jealous if she knows Emma’s interested in him too. Adam watches from the bushes and, when Sally and Grant head back towards the house, sneaks into Grant’s caravan. Tom is trying to use the busted vacuum cleaner when Sally and Grant come in. He notes Lance will get jealous of Sally having a new friend and Sally says Adam will be jealous too, since he’s Emma’s boyfriend. Tom gives Grant some privacy but Sally seems to stay to listen. Emma claims she wants Grant to give her surfing lessons, since Adam thinks surfing isn’t for girls, and he is bemused as she tells an involved story about going swimming. Meanwhile, Adam searches the caravan and finds a scrap book full of lots of photos of Grant with various trophies. Carly is cleaning the caravans and sees Adam exiting. She realises what he was doing but doesn’t say anything to Grant when he returns. Adam thanks her but Carly says she’s looking forward to seeing Grant beat him. In the caravan, Grant realises his things have been moved. Adam meets Emma at the surf club and says Grant’s won everything but the egg and spoon race. Entering behind them, Grant says he won that as well and gives them the scrap book, telling them to read it at their leisure.

Tom and Alf are having a game of chess at the caravan park house. Tom says he told Bobby he’d go to the court if she wanted but was relieved that she said no. However, he seems more sympathetic than Alf, although Alf did tell Celia to stay away. Tom thinks Al blackmailing Fisher should count in his favour and wonders what they’d have done in his shoes. Alf thinks he’d have come clean but Tom isn’t so sure. Meanwhile, Ailsa and Bobby are driving Fisher home. Fisher is thoroughly dispirited after being interrogated and spending a night in the lock-up. As they arrive home, they see that Fisher’s car and house are covered in graffiti. Fisher looks resigned.
