Steve Peacocke lands role in Hercules

It seems the rumours were true. As we speculated upon yesterday, Steve Peacocke has landed a role in a major Hollywood movie, and is set to take a break from his role on Home and Away.

Peacocke, who has played Brax (Darryl Braxton) on Home and Away since 2011, has scored a role in the film Hercules : The Thracian Wars, which is due for release next year. He will star alongside Dwayne ‘sThe Rock’s Johnson, John Hurt and Ian McShane in the action and adventure movie, which is directed by Brett Ratner.

Peacocke will be rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’ss biggest and most experienced names, a move which could kickstart his movie career. Ratner’ss previous films include the Rush Hour trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand and Tower Heist, while his fellow cast members have starred in scores of blockbusters, including Hellboy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Scorpian King.

Steve will be taking a break from the show while he films the movie, but plans to return to Summer Bay once filming is complete. Filming is due to commence in Budapest, Hungary over the next few months, with Peacocke intending to return to Australian shores in September.

The news was first broke by Australian entertainment reporter Peter Ford, and led to much debate as to whether or not Steve would return to the show. Peacocke confirmed the news while speaking to Seven’ss Today Tonight, and, when questioned if the move meant an end to his time in Summer Bay, said:

“No, not at all. It signals the launch for a whole new storyline that would not have come about if I did not get this film role. The writers came up with this awesome scenario, Brax leaves the storyline and comes back. It’ss going to be exciting to come back to, I can’st wait.”

He believes his role as Brax, which he landed less than two years ago, has been highly important in his evolution as an actor, and helped him secure the role:

“I was not expecting the to get the role when I ran for it but I got it. [Home and Away has] been a god send for me. It’ss allowed me to learn what I can do and to shine in different areas. It’ss been very important because Americans and people all over the world see our show and I guess it’ss how I got this job.”

Earlier this year, Steve won the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor at Australia’ss annual Logie Awards. He was nominated for the coveted Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on TV, but lost out to Asher Keddie of Offspring.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars is scheduled for release on 25 July 2014.
