Episode 64

At Cheryl’s house, she has just woken up from her nap when there is a loud knock on the door.

*She opens it to find two police officers standing there*

Cheryl: May I help you officers?

Officer 1: Hello ma’am. I’m constable Nora Jenkins and this is officer Bill Price. May we come in?

Cheryl: Of course. *shows them to the living room* What seems to be the problem?

Officer 2: We’ve had a report of an assault that occurred in this house. Can you tell us about it?

Cheryl: Who made the report?

Officer 2: Your niece.

Cheryl: I see. What did she say?

Officer 1: She said you hit her with a newspaper and a frying pan.

Cheryl: I do admit that I hit her with the newspaper, but I never EVER hit her with a frying pan!

Officer 1: Why did you hit her?

Cheryl: She was being cheeky so I flogged her with the newspaper. Do you flog your children?

Officer 1: No.

Cheryl: My niece is the most manipulative, selfish person on the face of this earth. I’m so ashamed of her.

Officer 2: So it was just a flogging?

Cheryl: Yes.

Officer 1: Then we’ll be taking no further action. I’m sorry to have bothered you. *they walk out*

Cheryl: No bother. Enjoy your day. *closes the door* LOWANA!!!!!

*Lowana comes out of her room*

Lowana: What?

Cheryl: You tried to have me charged with assault! And you lied to the officers about me hitting you with a frying pan.

Lowana: You did.

Cheryl: I NEVER F***ING HIT YOU WITH A FRYING PAN MISSY!!!!! WELL, THAT’S IT! TOMORROW, YOU WILL BE CLEANING THE KITCHEN, BATHROOM AND WASHING THE WINDOWS!!! I AM SO SICK OF YOUR BEHAVIOUR LATELY!!!

Lowana: THEN WHY DID YOU TAKE ME IN???

Cheryl: YOUR FATHER WANTED ME TO TEACH YOU ABOUT RESPECT!!!

Lowana: THE ONLY RESPECT YOU ARE GETTING OUT OF ME IS THIS! *flips the bird at her before storming off*

At Alexis’s house, she is getting ready to go to Kiara’s party despite her mother telling her that she is grounded.

*Claire knocks on her bedroom door*

Claire: Alexis. I’m going to bed now. You stay in your room okay.

Alexis: Whatever. *smiles*

Claire: Good night.

*Alexis waits for her bedroom door to close before she can sneak out through her bedroom window*

Alexis: It’s party time.

*When she gets to Kiara’s house, Alexis gives her some cruisers and a bottle of red wine.*

Alexis: Here you go.

Kiara: Thanks. *puts the alcohol down* It’s a pity none of the other Year 8 students could come.

Alexis: I know. Some of them don’t drink.

Kiara: I managed to get some of my brother’s friends from Parramatta to this party tonight.

Alexis: This is going to be so much fun. There’s no drugs is there?

Kiara: Of course not. I hate drugs as much as you do.

Alexis: Where are the guests?

Kiara: In the living room. *leads Alexis to the group of over three hundred teens*

Alexis: Let’s party!

Kiara: Right on! *they high five*

On the other side of town, Leon and Hayley are having their first evening date at a French restaurant.

Hayley: I don’t understand the menu. It’s all in French.

Leon: That’s why they call it a French restaurant.

*A waiter approaches them*

Waiter: Is there a problem?

Hayley: I don’t understand the menu. What is poulet grillé à la moutarde?

Waiter: Grilled chicken with mustard.

Hayley: I’ll have that then.

Leon: What is Pavé de rumsteck sauce à la menthe?

Waiter: Rump steak with mint sauce.

Leon: Then I’ll order it.

Waiter: Coming right up. *walks off*

*After their meal is served to them, Leon and Hayley look at each other*

Hayley: After dinner, shall we go to my place?

Leon: Hayley, I’m not ready for…you know.

Hayley: I wasn’t going back home to have…you know! I was hoping you could spend the night at my place.

Leon: Sure. *they kiss*

When they get to Hayley’s house, Leon and Hayley sit down on the lounge and start to kiss.

Hayley: You are such a good kisser.

Leon: You’re an even better kisser.

Hayley: What’s on Channel Seven tonight?

Leon: Some movie.

Hayley: Let’s watch it.

Leon: Okay.

*Hayley turns the TV on*

Leon: Oh crap! I forgot to ring my parents and let them know where I am. *goes over to Hayley’s phone and calls his house* Hi Dad. It’s me. Listen, Hayley asked me to stay over for the night. Can I? We won’t be sleeping together. I’m sleeping on the sofa. I’ll be home after breakfast. Good night. *hangs up the phone*

Hayley: Now where were we?

Leon: Watching the movie of course. *puts his arm around Hayley’s shoulder before kissing her again*

At 2:30 in the morning, a drunken Alexis climbs in through her bedroom window to find her mother standing at the door.

Claire: Been partying again have we Alexis?

Alexis: *drunkenly* Oh yeah! Had the time of my life!

Claire: Well, I’m glad you had the time of your life because you’ve now earned yourself another week of being grounded!

Alexis: Who are you? THE F***ING COPS!

Claire: How many drinks have you had young lady?

Alexis: Dunno. Don’t care!

Claire: I’ll deal with you in the morning! *storms out of her room*

The next morning (Sunday), Alexis has a massive hangover and throws up in the toilet.

Alexis: My head…

Claire: That’s what you get for drinking and partying all night.

Alexis: Shut up Mum! I just want my head to stop throbbing!

Claire: Ever heard of taking Panadol?

Alexis: WELL IF I COULD FIND IT, I WOULD TAKE IT!

Claire: Don’t speak to me in that tone Alexis. You are in enough trouble as it is!

Alexis: Like you didn’t party and go swanning off in the city!

Claire: I was 18 when I first started partying! You’re nearly 14! That concerns me!

Alexis: Whatever! *walks into her bedroom and closes the door*

*Claire sighs*

At Rachael’s house, Alison has brought Tina back home from the hospital with baby Isaiah.

Rachael: Welcome home. *goes over to her sister and hugs her*

Tina: Thanks. I’m so glad to be home.

Alison: Would you like me to help out with Isaiah on my days off from work?

Tina: I would like that. I have to go house hunting on Tuesday so I could use the help.

Rachael: Don’t worry. Me and Ali are always on hand to help our friends and family in need.

Tina: I’m going to unpack my things. *hands Isaiah over to Rachael before heading upstairs*

Alison: Any more phone calls from her abusive boyfriend?

Rachael: No. He seems to finally get the message.

*The phone rings*

Rachael: Who could that be? *picks up the phone* Hello? NO! TINA IS NOT HERE! SHE LEFT YESTERDAY! WHAT PART OF THAT DON’T YOU GET??? SHE HAD AN ABORTION NOW DEAL WITH IT!!! *slams the phone down*

Alison: Was that him?

Rachael: Yes! He won’t leave us alone! I know he’s after that baby. I just got to prove it.

Alison: I’m more worried about that baby and Tina.

Rachael: If he gets his hands on her, he’s a dead man!

Episode 65

At Cheryl’s house later that morning, Lowana has just finished scrubbing the kitchen and washing the windows when Cheryl walks over to her.

Cheryl: Bathroom isn’t done!

Lowana: So?

Cheryl: So get in there and clean it!

Lowana: I just scrubbed the kitchen and washed the windows. I’m tired!

Cheryl: Too bad. Clean that bathroom!!!

Lowana: If it’s such a problem, why don’t YOU clean it!!!

Cheryl: Watch your mouth missy!

Lowana: You’ve been treating me like your live-in maid ever since I got here. I’m your niece!!!

Cheryl: I’m well aware of that! But your father asked me to punish you, so I am!

*Lowana sprays Windex on Cheryl’s dress*

Lowana: Oops! Did I spray you? I’m sorry.

Cheryl: ROOM NOW!!!

*Lowana walks into her bedroom laughing*

In the suburb of Ultimo, Dina and Nina arrive at a Christian church to experience what being a Christian is.

Nina: Why are we here Dina? Our church is back in Civic.

Dina: I want to experience being a Christian.

Nina: We’ve always been Muslims Dina.

Dina: I’m well aware of that.

*they walk inside the church*

Nina: Look at them. They’re all dressed up!

Dina: Shush!

*Some of the churchgoers look at them unimpressively*

Dina/Nina: Sorry. *they sit down in the back row*

*Halfway through the service, the reverend walks over with the church collection plate. When he stops where Dina and Nina are sitting, he holds the plate in front of them*

Nina: Yes?

Reverend: Aren’t you going to donate?

Nina: No. I’m not a Christian and I will never be one.

*Some churchgoers gasp in horror. Dina looks embarrassed*

Reverend: Then why are you here.

Nina: My sister forced me to come.

*Dina covers her face with her hands as more gasps fill the church*

When they get home, Dina immediately confronts Nina about her behaviour.

Dina: I have NEVER been so embarrassed in my entire life!

Nina: I was just telling the truth!

Dina: You don’t say things like that in a CHRISTIAN church!!!!

Nina: We weren’t there that long anyway.

Dina: Because I had to drag you out of the church because you were going to have a go at one of the women in the front row!!

Nina: She started the whole thing!

Dina: You embarrassed me Nina! I had to leave in shame!

Nina: And you’ve never embarrassed me, right Dina?

Dina: I’m not saying that I have!

Nina: How about the time you sabotaged my dress for the Year 7 disco?

Dina: I thought it looked good in pink.

Nina: NOT IN PINK PAINT!!! The dress was gold and you painted it pink!

Dina: White gold!

Nina: Who cares?!? I’m going to my room. I think we both need to cool off!

Dina: Good idea! *hears Nina’s bedroom door slam, then lets out a heavy sigh*

At the park, Donna is putting on mascara when Natalie approaches her.

Natalie: Who are we trying to impress today derro?

Donna: What you want Natalie?

Natalie: The school disco is coming up. I have a date and you don’t!

Donna: So what?

Natalie: You’ll never find a boyfriend. You’re too ugly.

*Alison manages to hear this as she walks past Natalie and Donna*

Alison: Excuse me? Don’t talk to her like that.

Natalie: Butt out Patterson!

Alison: Make me Evans!

Natalie: You think you’re so smart don’t you? I’ll tell you what, why don’t you walk away and mind your own business.

Alison: Just leave Donna alone or else.

Natalie: Or else what?

Alison: Or else I’ll take matters into my own hands. Now beat it!

*Natalie storms off angrily*

Alison: You all right?

Donna: Yeah. She’s just a cow.

Alison: Agreed.

Meanwhile, Riggot is watching TV in the living room when Mareta comes downstairs.

Mareta: Hey little bro.

Riggot: Sup sis.

Mareta: What’s on the TV?

Riggot: Video Hits.

Mareta: I thought the NRL was on today.

Riggot: This afternoon. Want to come watch TV?

Mareta: Sure. *sits with Riggot on the sofa*

*An hour later, Riggot and Mareta laughing their butts off*

Mareta: Good old Road Runner. He never fails to crack us up.

Riggot: Yeah. Especially when he goes, ‘beep-beep!’.

*They laugh as their mother walks in through the front door*

Mrs Varu: What’s so funny.

Mareta: Loony Tunes. Road Runner lured Wile E. Coyote into his own trap. *laughs harder*

Riggot: Yeah. One minute he was standing on the trap, then the next…KABOOM!!!!

*Mrs Varu looks at them strangely*

Mrs Varu: I brought back fish and chips for lunch. You can join us, when you’ve calmed down. *walks in the kitchen*

Riggot: I doubt it.

*He looks at Mareta and then both start laughing again*

Later that afternoon, Lowana is packing her suitcases in the room she‘s sleeping in. As soon as Cheryl opens the door, Lowana hides the suitcases.

Cheryl: I’m going to the supermarket. I’ll be back in hour. I expect this room to be clean. Are we clear on that missy?

Lowana: Yes Aunty Cheryl.

Cheryl: Good. *leaves the room*

*Once Cheryl leaves the house, Lowana goes over to the phone and starts dialling a number.*

Lowana: Hi, is Julie Ann there please? Sure. *waits a few seconds* Hey Julie Ann. It’s Lowana. How are you? That’s good. Listen, I’m on my way over now. I had to wait for the old bitch to leave. But don’t worry, I’m on my way over now. I’ll see you then. Okay, bye. *hangs up the phone*

*Lowana goes into the guest room and gets her suitcases together*

Lowana: *to herself* I’m not going to be punished for trying to break Leon and Hayley up. They are too young to see it. You’ve been treating me like your live-in maid since I got here. Well, I’m leaving. I think I’ve got just about everything I need.

*Lowana then walks into Cheryl’s bedroom*

Lowana: Or maybe not. *opens Cheryl’s jewellery box and then takes a pearl necklace and a pair of rose gold earrings* More or less. *chuckles as she places the stolen jewellery into her handbag* Well, thank you so much my sweet Aunty Cheryl. *grabs her suitcases and then leaves the house*

*When she arrives at Julie Ann’s house, Lowana rings the doorbell. Julie Ann answers it.*

Julie Ann: Lo!

Lowana: Jules!

*they hug*

Julie Ann: I haven’t seen you since you left for uni.

Lowana: I’m just glad to be away from that bitch! *goes inside Julie Ann’s house*

Julie Ann: What happened?

Lowana: I got sent to Aunty Cheryl’s for trying to break up Leon and his trollop of a girlfriend. And ever since I arrived, she’s made me clean her entire house as a “punishment”. Well, I got back at her big time. I stole her favourite pearl necklace. Oh, and these are for you. *hands Julie Ann the rose gold earrings*

Julie Ann: Oh Lo. They’re beautiful. Thanks for that.

Lowana: Anything for an old friend. *smiles*

Meanwhile, Cheryl arrives home with an armful of groceries.

Cheryl: Lowana! I’m back!

*no answer*

Cheryl: Lowana? *puts the groceries onto the kitchen table and goes into the guest room to find Lowana’s belongings gone*

*Cheryl then goes into her bedroom and checks her jewellery box to find the pearl necklace and rose gold earrings gone*

Cheryl: That little bitch.. *goes over to her dresser and picks up her cordless phone to call Mr Longbottom*

At Leon’s house, the family are having dinner when the phone rings.

Mr Longbottom: Hello? Hello Cheryl.

Cheryl: Listen, I just returned home to find Lowana gone and my pearl necklace and rose gold earrings gone.

Mr Longbottom: What? Are you saying Lowana took them?

Cheryl: Well, I didn’t move them.

Mr Longbottom: Where is she?

Cheryl: Honestly, I really don’t know.

Mr Longbottom: Don’t worry. I’ll find her and when I do, she’s in A LOT of trouble. I’m really sorry about this Cheryl.

Cheryl: It’s fine. I just want the jewellery back.

Mr Longbottom: I’ll let you know when we find her.

Cheryl: Thanks.

Mr Longbottom: I’ll talk to you soon. Goodbye. *hangs up*

Leon: Dad, what’s going on?

Mr Longbottom: Your sister just took off with Aunty Cheryl’s jewellery!

Leon: What did she take?

Mr Longbottom: Her favourite pearl necklace and a pair of earrings.

*Leon looks dumbfounded*

Leon: I never thought Lowana would steal, especially from our family.

Mr Longbottom: I know son. I’ll start calling her friends.

That night, Lowana and Julie Ann are in the living room doing each others hair.

Lowana: Don’t these pearls look fabulous on me!

Julie Ann: They look so real!

*Suddenly, the front door starts knocking*

Lowana: Want me to get that for you?

Julie Ann: Sure.

*Lowana opens the door to find her own father standing there*

Lowana: Dad?

Mr Longbottom: You have A LOT of explaining to do young lady!

Lowana: *looks scared* What do you mean?

Mr Longbottom: You know. I thought it was bad enough that you sent a threatening note to Hayley and trying to break her and Leon up, but this takes the cake! How could you steal jewellery from your own aunty?

Lowana: Hear this Julie Ann. I’m about to be lectured. *gives Mr Longbottom a smug look*

Mr Longbottom: NOW LISTEN HERE!!! YOU ARE GOING TO GIVE AUNTY CHERYL BACK HER JEWELLERY AND WHEN YOU DO, I EXPECT YOU TO APOLOGISE TO HER!!!!

Lowana: And if I don’t?

Mr Longbottom: NOT A GOOD IDEA TO PUSH MY BUTTONS RIGHT NOW!!!

Lowana: Fine. I’ll apologise to her.

*Julie Ann takes off the earrings and hands them to Mr Longbottom*

Julie Ann: Here you go.

Mr Longbottom: Thanks Julie Ann. I appreciate you doing that. *to Lowana* And as for you, get in the car! *drags Lowana away*

The next morning (Monday), Alison and Kat arrive at TAFE and go to the portable classroom where they are greeted by the head teacher of the learning disability program Jacinta Dersh.

Jacinta: Alison, I need to talk to you.

Alison: What is it Miss Dersh?

Jacinta: It’s about Justin.

Alison: What’s the matter? Is he okay?

Jacinta: There was a car accident last night on Parramatta Road. Justin was a passenger in the car.

Alison: Where is he?

*Jacinta looks at Alison with a sad expression*

Jacinta: I’m sorry to say this, but he died before he got to the hospital

*Alison gasps in shock*

Alison: Oh no. His poor family.

Kat: What exactly happened Jacinta?

Jacinta: The car crashed into a power pole on impact.

Alison: I have to go. *runs out the room*

*Kat goes after her*

Kat: Wait Ali.

Alison: *tearfully* I need to be alone.

At recess, Kat tells the girls about Justin’s fatal accident.

Kat: It was shocking. So sad.

Vicki: I know. His family must be going through a lot of trauma.

Kat: Alison didn’t take the news well. She was helping him beat his dyslexia.

Sylvia: I hope she’s okay.

Kat: She’ll be fine.

Rachael: Is that why she left early?

Kat: Yes. She needs to know when the funeral is.

Vicki: Like you said Kat, she’ll be fine.

*Kat nods her head*

Sylvia: I have some exciting news I would like to share.

Rachael: Do tell.

Sylvia: I’m going over to Texas and see Wayne and Gloria.

Vicki: You’ll be back right.

Sylvia: I’m going for two weeks. I’ll be back just in time for Jenny and Brock’s wedding.

Rachael: They should be back soon.

*All the girls nod in agreement*

Over at Leon’s house, Lowana is watching The Young and the Restless on TV when Mrs Longbottom turns it off.

Lowana: I was watching that!

Mrs Longbottom: Your father and I told you that you were banned from the TV until further notice.

Lowana: So what? I’m 21 years-old, not a child.

Mrs Longbottom: AS LONG AS YOU ARE LIVING IN THIS HOUSE, YOU’LL DO AS YOU’RE TOLD!

Lowana: I JUST WANT TO HAVE FREEDOM!!!

Mrs Longbottom: AFTER STEALING AUNTY CHERYL’S JEWELLERY, YOU AREN’T ENTITLED TO HAVE ANY FREEDOM. AND TO THINK YOU WANT TO BE A TEACHER!

Lowana: I DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS! *storms into her bedroom and slams the door*

*Mrs Longbottom lets out a huge sigh*

When Rachael gets home from TAFE, she hears the phone ring.

Rachael: Hello?

James: *over the phone* Where is Tina?

Rachael: GONE!!! FROM YOUR LIFE FOREVER I HOPE!!!

James: Look here Rachael! You have a choice. Either you tell me where Tina is or I will come over to your house and take her by force!

Rachael: LIKE HELL YOU WILL!!! YOU’LL NEVER GO NEAR MY SISTER OR HER BABY EVER AGAIN!!!!

James: TRY AND STOP ME BITCH! *hangs up on her*
