SIDE NOTE: It is now June 1989

The next morning (Thursday) at school, Alex walks over to where the boys are. It has been weeks since the incident that nearly ruined their friendship.

Alex: Sup boys.

Riggot: Sup Alex. We missed you like crazy man. *they shake hands*

Alex: I know.

Leon: You all good now bro?

Alex: Yeah bro.

Seru: We were really worried about you. We thought you would never talk to us again.

Alex: I had to regroup bro.

Riggot: We’re just glad to have you back man.

*the boys then group hug*

Meanwhile, Madison and Nicola are talking about Alexis and Catherine’s payback towards Natalie and Ella the day before.

Madison: You should have seen their faces when the bell rang Nicola. It was priceless.

Nicola: I bet eating all those raw potatoes made them sick.

Madison: Ella was vomiting in the toilets.

Nicola: How many raw potatoes did they eat?

Madison: The whole packet.

*Nicola starts laughing*

Nicola: I always knew Alexis wouldn’t let them off the hook. *smiles*

Madison: That’s Alexis for you. And don’t forget, it was Catherine’s idea.

*Carina approaches them*

Carina: Hey girls.

Nicola: So Carina. What were Natalie and Ella’s facial expressions yesterday after eating the potatoes?

Carina: They were pale and sick to their stomachs. Serves them right the bitches!

Madison: Where’s Alexis?

Carina: She said she was on her way to roll call. Anyway, I better be going. Catch you around. *walks off*

In the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Vicki is at Grace Bros having a job interview with the store manager Mr Sanders.

Mr Sanders: Any qualifications Miss Adams?

Vicki: I worked at Coles in Leichhardt for two years, then I worked at Revlon as a sales rep.

Mr Sanders: Current employment?

Vicki: I’m actually at TAFE studying for my HSC. But I do have my Year 10 certificate. *shows Mr Sanders her portfolio*

Mr Sanders: Impressive. I’ll give you a ring by the beginning of next week to determine whether you get the job of not.

Vicki: Okay. I look forward to your call. Thanks for your time.

*they shake hands*

Over at Alison’s house, her and Amy are spending the day in their pyjamas eating junk food and watching the midday movie on Channel Seven.

Alison: It feels so good to have lazy days like this.

Amy: I know.

Alison: Just hope I don’t put on too much weight.

Amy: You look good. Stop worrying so much.

Alison: It’s just that I haven’t pigged out like this in ages.

Amy: Same.

Alison: Want to go to the movies tonight?

Amy: What’s on?

Alison: She-Devil.

Amy: What time is it on?

Alison: 8:30pm.

Amy: Can’t wait.

At Rachael’s house, she is in the kitchen reading a fashion magazine when the doorbell rings.

*Rachael opens the door to find her sister Tina standing there*

Rachael: Tina!

Tina: Rachael!

*they hug*

Rachael: OMG! Look at you. You’re almost ready to have the baby.

Tina: I know. One month to go.

Rachael: You came all the way from Samoa?

Tina: No. I stayed over at Aunty Tiva’s house over the past week. And I thought while I’m here, I thought I will come see my little sister.

Rachael: I’m glad that you are here. Would you like to help me cook dinner tonight?

Tina: Ooh! What are we having?

Rachael: Chicken and vegetables.

Tina: At least I don’t have to drink any of that condensed milk anymore.

Rachael: I warned you Aunty Tiva didn’t have regular milk at her house.

Tina: I should’ve listen.

Rachael: How long do you plan on staying?

Tina: A few days. I’m actually thinking of moving here once I have the baby.

Rachael: What about Mum?

Tina: She’ll be fine. Now lets start dinner shall we?

Rachael: It’s 2:30 in the afternoon.

Tina: I want the chicken to be just right. *walks into the kitchen*

On the other side of town, Nina is looking at the old building on Victoria Street which she plans to turn into a beauty salon when a woman by the name of Alice Davenport approaches her..

Alice: You thinking of buying this building too?

Nina: Of course. I want to start my own beauty salon in this building.

Alice: I wouldn’t bet on it darling. If I buy it, I’m going to turn it into a brothel.

*Nina looks disgusted*

Nina: What did you say?

Alice: I said I’m going to turn it into a brothel.

Nina: *thinks to herself* In your dreams bitch! That building is mine.

Alice: By tomorrow this place will be all mine. *walks away*

Nina: *under her breath* Don’t bet on it.

After school, Alex and Tyson are walking home together.

Alex: You going to rugby training tonight?

Tyson: Of course bro. All the boys are going to be there.

Alex: Jess might be coming too.

Tyson: I thought she was going to late night with April.

Alex: April might not go now cause she had an argument with her mother.

Tyson: I’ll see you at training tonight.

Alex: See ya bro. *walks to his house*

Meanwhile, Alice is at a nearby telephone booth talking to somebody.

Alice: Hi. It’s Alice Davenport here. Listen. If I do buy this building on Victoria Street, I will make sure that drugs will be sold there. That’s right. I want drug dealers at my new brothel.

Episode 55

The next morning (Friday), Alison and Amy are having breakfast when the doorbell rings.

Alison: I’ll get that. *walks out of the kitchen and opens the front door to find Rachael standing there*

Rachael: Hey Ali. I was wondering if I could talk to you and Amy for a minute.

Alison: Something wrong?

Rachael: Yes. It’s about my sister.

*Amy comes out of the kitchen to join Alison and Rachael*

Amy: Hey Rachael. What seems to be the problem?

Rachael: I’m worried about Tina.

Amy: What about her?

Rachael: She’s talking about leaving Samoa and moving back here.

Alison: Here in Civic.

Rachael: I’m not sure. For some reason, she wants to come back here as soon has she has the baby.

Amy: Did she have a falling out with one of the relatives?

Rachael: She didn’t say. But I think that she’s lonely.

Alison: I don’t quite follow you on that one.

Rachael: When we were growing up, I was always the outgoing type whereas Tina was shy and often kept to a small group of friends. And to make matters worse, she broke up with her fiancé.

Alison: I follow you now. What do you want us to do?

Rachael: I’ve decided to invite the girls over for dinner tonight.

Amy: What time shall we be there?

Rachael: Is 6:30 good?

Amy: Fine with us.

Rachael: Good. I’ll see you then. *walks off*

At Harleys, Sylvia is counting the money in the cash register when Leon’s sister Lowana enters the restaurant.

Sylvia: I’ll be with you in a tick.

Lowana: Hello Sylvia.

*Sylvia looks up and is surprised by what she sees*

Sylvia: Lowana? OMG! Welcome home! *hugs her* Have I missed you?

Lowana: Likewise. Everything seems so different.

Sylvia: Back home for the holidays?

Lowana: Actually, I had my graduation this morning. I can’t believe that I spent three years at uni and not contacted any of my friends. Have I missed anything?

Sylvia: Not really. I’ve been working here part-time for a few months now. Have you went home yet?

Lowana: I was on the way home and I thought I’d stop by and get a milkshake.

Sylvia: What flavour?

Lowana: Strawberry please.

*Sylvia goes over to the milkshake maker while talking to Lowana*

Sylvia: What did you study at uni?

Lowana: Bachelor of Teaching. The assignments were so hard, but it was worth it.

*Sylvia gives her the milkshake*

Sylvia: $4.50.

*Lowana hands her the money*

At Century 21 Real Estate, both Nina and Alice are talking to the estate agent over their plans for the building on Victoria Street.

Estate agent: What is it that you want to do with the building Miss Caliente?

Nina: I want to start my own beauty salon.

Estate agent: And you Miss Davenport?

Alice: I want to operate my own brothel.

Estate agent: I see. I’ll let the two of you know by Monday who gets the building. *walks off*

*Once the estate agent leaves, the fur begins to fly*

Alice: There’s no way you’re getting that building.

Nina: Is that right? We’ll just see.

Alice: I just want to run my own brothel there.

Nina: No Alice! NO! YOU want to run a drug racket there!

Alice: I do not!

Nina: I believe you called someone and said “I want drug dealers at my new brothel”.

Alice: Were you listening into my conversation?

Nina: I don’t operate like that. Now if you’ll excuse me. *walks out of the office*

*Alice looks disgusted*

After school, Leon and Hayley arrive home and see Lowana in the living room.

Leon: Lowana, is that you?

Lowana: Of course it’s me! Now come give me a hug!

*they hug*

Leon: I would like you to meet my girlfriend Hayley Martin. Hayley, this is my sister Lowana. She just graduated from uni today.

Hayley: Hi. *shakes Lowana’s hand*

Lowana: Girlfriend aye? It’s so nice to meet you.

Leon: I’ll call later tonight okay girl? *kisses Hayley lightly on the lips*

Hayley: Okay. *walks out*

*Later, Leon is in his bedroom when he overhears Lowana talking to their parents about Hayley.*

Lowana: How long have they been going out for?

Mrs Longbottom: Nearly a month.

Lowana: He’s too young too have a girlfriend.

Mr Longbottom: Lowana, he’s nearly 14.

Lowana: And how old is she?

Mr Longbottom: 14 and a half cause she repeated Year 8.

Lowana: I strongly disapprove of their relationship.

Mrs Longbottom: You’ve had boyfriends before.

Lowana: Mum, I’m nearly 21. My first boyfriend was at 17.

*Leon looks like he’s about to cry*

That night at Rachael’s house, she introduces Tina to her friends.

Rachael: Now Tina. I would like you to meet my friends from TAFE.

Tina: Hi.

Rachael: This is Alison, Sylvia,Vicki and Amy.

Tina: Don’t you have another friend named Kat?

Vicki: She couldn’t make it.

Rachael: Let’s get this dinner started shall we?

*During dinner, Rachael talks about old times. However, what she says to Alison and rest of the girls annoys Tina*

Rachael: Tina was quite shy at school. She just kept to herself and had a small group of friends.

Tina: While you were popular and outgoing, they get it!

Rachael: I didn’t mean it like that Tina.

Tina: Then what did you mean? That you’re better than me.

Rachael: I never said that I was better than you.

Tina: Yes, I was shy and only had a small group of friends. But that was my choice.

Alison: Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.

Tina: What?

Alison: Us coming here.

Tina: I don’t mind having all of you here. You’re all nice people.

Amy: You see. Rachael thinks you’re lonely.

Tina: Lonely? Why do you think I’m lonely Rachael?

Rachael: Well, you never told me why James broke off the engagement.

Tina: I told you. He cheated on me.

Rachael: Tina when I was going to bed last night, I noticed some bruises on your back.

Tina: I slipped on some rocks and landed on my back.

Rachael: He hurt you didn’t he?

Tina: I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS ANYMORE!!!!! *gets up from the table* I’m sorry about this girls. It was nice meeting you all. *storms upstairs*

Vicki: Well, that went well.

*Rachael sighs*

Over at her house, a sick Melissa is getting ready to go to bed when the phone rings.

Melissa: Hello? Yes, this is Melissa Powell. What seems to be the problem? Oh no. Where is she going? Right. I appreciate that officer. Thank you. Have a great night. *hangs up the phone*

*Nina comes downstairs*

Nina: Who was that?

Melissa: That was the police. Mum’s been charged with shoplifting. They’re sending her to Barnhurst tonight as a remand prisoner.

*Nina goes over to Melissa and hugs her*

Episode 56

The next day (Saturday), Lowana is in the living room when Leon walks over to her.

Leon: Morning.

Lowana: You certainly slept in. It’s nearly 10:30.

Leon: I know. I’m meeting Hayley at the mall. We’re having lunch together.

Lowana: Oh.

Leon: What is it?

Lowana: Nothing. I just thought that we could do something together.

Leon: I do too, but I already had plans with Hayley before you returned home. We’ll do something tomorrow. I promise.

Lowana: Right.

Leon: Look. I know you’re not too fond of Hayley, but in time you’ll…

Lowana: What’s makes you think that?

Leon: You told Mum and Dad that I was too young to be in a relationship and that you strongly disapprove of it.

Lowana: You’re too young Leon.

Leon: No I’m not! I’m nearly 14! You’ve only been here twenty-four hours and already you are trying to order me around.

Lowana: I’m not ordering you around! I only want what’s best for you.

Leon: This relationship is very important to me. I love her!

Lowana: Right.

Leon: I have to go. See you later. *walks out and closes the front door*

*Lowana sighs*

Leon and Lowana aren’t the only ones with sibling troubles. Over at Rachael’s house, Tina is ignoring her.

Rachael: Hey Tina.

*Tina turns the TV on and puts the volume up*

Rachael: Tina?

Tina: There’s nothing quite like a funny episode of Tom and Jerry to cheer me up!

*Rachael marches over to the TV and turns it off*

Tina: I was watching that!

Rachael: What did I do so wrong that you won’t talk to me?

Tina: Last night. You were showing off in front of your friends. I felt like I was worthless.

Rachael: I wasn’t showing off.

Tina: You were so!

Rachael: I was just trying to help you have friends here.

Tina: All my friends have moved away over the past few years.

Rachael: That doesn’t mean you can’t talk to them over the phone.

Tina: And those bruises on my back were from James! You satisfied now? *storms upstairs*

Rachael: Tina! *goes after her*

*When Rachael gets upstairs, she knocks on the door where Tina is sleeping*

Rachael: Tina! Please let me in!

Tina: No!

Rachael: I just want to talk to you.

*After a few minutes of silence, Tina opens the door. She is crying*

Rachael: Why didn’t you tell me he was hurting you? *hugs her sister*

Tina: Cause if I told anyone, he would shoot me.

Rachael: WHAT????

Tina: That’s right. He’s been abusive since I got pregnant.

Rachael: That a***hole! No wonder you came back here.

Tina: He wanted me to have an abortion and when I said no, he threw me against the wall and that’s why the bruises are on my back.

Rachael: Come here you. *hugs her again*

At Melissa’s house, she is in the kitchen drinking water when the doorbell rings.

Melissa: I’m coming. *opens the door to find Vicki standing there* Hi Vicki. Come on in.

*Vicki comes inside*

Vicki: So, what’s the emergency?

Melissa: My mother has been charged with shoplifting and is at Barnhurst Prison until her trial.

Vicki: OMG! I was going to tell you my exciting news but I don’t think you want to hear it.

Melissa: Tell me.

Vicki: I got call from Grace Bros about that job interview. And guess what? I got the job!

Melissa: Congratulations!

Vicki: I start next week. I’m so excited!

Melissa: Are you working part-time?

Vicki: Three days a week.

Melissa: I just hope you don’t overdo it.

Vicki: So do I. I remember working at Coles when I was 19 and I nearly injured my back lifting a box of soft drink.

Melissa: I bet you were in a lot of pain.

Vicki: Definitely. But I’m more worried about you.

Melissa: Don’t be. My mother got what she deserved! I’m tired of supporting her and that. Just tired of her crap!

Vicki: My father belted me and Karen up black and blue. He also hit my mother too. One day, he beat her so hard that I thought she was going to have brain damage. That’s when I grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen and stabbed my father to death.

Melissa: You’re home life must have been pretty awful.

Vicki: After the court case, I left Dubbo and moved to Penrith. I hung out with a bad crowd over there and we used to do awful things. Like the time Erin’s cat was killed.

Melissa: It looks like we’re not alone when it comes to having bad relationships with parents.

Vicki: Exactly.

At the shopping centre, Leon and Hayley are talking about Lowana.

Hayley: She doesn’t like me does she?

Leon: Who?

Hayley: Your sister.

Leon: She needs time to get used to the idea. I think she’s scared that I’m growing up too fast.

Hayley: I love you.

Leon: I love you too girl. *they kiss*

*As they kiss, Todd walks past*

Todd: Ooh! Lovers!

Leon: At least I have a girlfriend. Unlike you!

Hayley: What do you want cane toad?

Todd: Cane toad? Charming!

Leon: Get lost Todd! We don’t you ugly face ruining our romantic date.

*Todd storms off*

Leon: Where were we?

*Hayley kisses him*

Hayley: We have to have a double date soon.

Leon: With who?

Hayley: Catherine and Seru.

Leon: Okay. When?

Hayley: Next weekend.

Leon: Sounds good. *they kiss again*

When Alison finishes work, she decides to spend time with Riggot and Mareta by taking them to the park.

Alison: What do you guys want to do?

Mareta: I might buy us some ice-cream.

Alison: You do that. We’ll meet you near the playground.

*Mareta goes to get the ice-cream*

Riggot: Ali. I need to ask you something.

Alison: What is it? Are you in trouble?

Riggot: No. I’m going out with Alexis. But I’m hiding it from my friends and family.

Alison: You shouldn’t do that. You should be honest with them. But I must admit, I was like that when I brought home my first boyfriend.

Riggot: I’m just worried that my parents won’t like her because of who she is.

Alison: You’re referring to the drinking aren’t you.

*Riggot nods his head*

Alison: She’ll beat the bottle soon enough.

*Mareta returns with three ice-cream cones*

Mareta: Here we go. Some ice-cream for my two favourite people.

Riggot: Leon’s sister came back from uni yesterday.

Alison: Really? I’ll have to meet her then won’t I.

Mareta: She’s a vulture!

Alison: Leon’s sister?

Mareta: Yeah. She doesn’t think Leon should date until he’s 18.

Alison: He’s dating now.

Mareta: I know. I’m just worried that him and Hayley will break up because of Lowana.

Alison: I’m starting to get the whole picture now.

Mareta: I don’t think its Lowana’s place to say anything about his relationship with Hayley.

Alison: I agree with you Mareta.

Riggot: Lowana’s a bitch! She’s the only one I don’t like out of the boys’ siblings.

Alison: What’s she done you Riggz?

Riggot: She’s so fake! She’s nice to your face, but once your out of earshot she starts stabbing you in the back.

Alison: I look forward to meeting her.

At Rachael’s house, Tina is having a shower when the phone rings. Rachael answers it.

Rachael: Hello?

James: Hi Rachael. It’s James.

*Rachael’s anger begins to rise*

Rachael: What do YOU want?

James: I want to talk to Tina. Is she here?

Rachael: No. And even if she were, I wouldn’t hand her over to you just so you can hurt her!

Episode 57

The next day (Sunday), Alison goes over to Leon’s house where she intends to meet Lowana.

*Alison rings the doorbell. After a few seconds, Lowana opens the door*

Lowana: May I help you?

Alison: Hi. I’m Alison Patterson. Is Leon there?

Lowana: You just missed him. He’s gone over to his friend’s house. I’m his sister Lowana.

Alison: I’ve heard a lot about you from Sylvia.

Lowana: Would you like to come in?

Alison: Sure. *walks inside the house*

Lowana: How long have you been in Civic for?

Alison: A few months.

Lowana: Sylvia did mention something about TAFE. You’re in her class right?

*Alison nods her head*

Lowana: I just got back from uni. I spent three years studying for my Bachelor of Teaching. Are you going to uni sometime?

Alison: I plan to next year.

Lowana: Why did you repeat Year 12?

Alison: I didn’t get the HSC marks I wanted to get into uni.

Lowana: I see. I think you and I will be great friends. Wouldn’t you say?

Alison: I think so too.

*they smile*

At Harleys, Natalie is with her friends bitching about Catherine.

Natalie: She’s an attention-seeker. She always cries when people break off friendships with her. I still can’t believe that they forced me and Ella to eat raw potatoes. I still can taste them.

Ella: It took me nearly three hours to get the smell out. That bitch thinks she’s so important.

Natalie: I know. Once an attention-seeker, always an attention-seeker.

*Sylvia has had enough*

Sylvia: Natalie.

Natalie: *rolls her eyes* Excuse me. *walks over to Sylvia* Yes?

Sylvia: You say one more bad thing about Catherine, and you’ll be out of here.

Natalie: I was just making a…

Sylvia: One more word!

*Natalie goes back to where she was sitting*

Natalie: I bet Alexis Thorpe must be comforting her right now. That way she can pour her heart out to her.

Sylvia: Right that’s it! Out! And stay out! *grabs Natalie by the arm and pushes her out the door* And that goes for the lot of you.

Ella: Don’t worry. We’re leaving! *glares at Sylvia before leaving*

On their way to Seru’s house, Riggot and Alexis decide whether or not to tell their closest friends about their relationship.

Riggot: I think we should tell them.

Alexis: I disagree. I haven’t even told Catherine and Madison and they are my closest friends.

Riggot: I haven’t even told the boys.

Alexis: Should we tell them?

Riggot: Of course!

*they kiss*

*When they get to Seru’s house, they see all their friends there.*

Madison: I knew they would come here together.

Riggot: All right. You’ve caught us.

Leon: Here goes.

Catherine: What’s the big secret between you two?

Alexis: If you must know, Riggot and myself are dating.

Hayley: I knew it.

Seru: Why keep it a secret?

Catherine: Yeah.

Riggot: We wanted to surprise you.

Madison: Boy are we surprised.

Leon: Kiss each other.

*Riggot and Alexis kiss*

Everyone: Aww….

At Rachael‘s house, Tina is at home alone when the phone rings.

Tina: Hello?

James: So you ARE over at Rachael’s?

Tina: What do you want James?

James: I’m here to take you back to Samoa! We have things to discuss!

Tina: Is that right? Well, I’m not coming back and if you are thinking of taking our baby away from me, well guess what? I had an abortion!

James: WHAT??? THAT WAS OUR CHILD!!!!

Tina: YOU DON’T DESERVE TO BE A FATHER WHO BEATS UP HIS FIANCE!!

James: YOU’LL PAY!!! TRUST ME YOU WILL!!! *hangs up*

*As Tina walks over to the couch, she clutches her stomach*

Tina: Argh!

*Rachael walks in with an armful of groceries*

Rachael: I’m back. *sees Tina* Are you okay?
