Extended Summary

Theo follows Kirby from the house. Kirby is unhappy that Theo looked at her text while Theo again tries to ask why she’s in touch with Bob. He convinces her to come back inside to talk. Up in Salt, Felicity talks in rather vague terms about the need to make an aisle for her, eventually concluding that they need lights and an “arch thingie”. Cash adds “arch thingie” to the list. Felicity is keen to keep everyone there to talk, even though Tane and Cash points out she’s not really sure what she needs. Felicity tries to ask Cash what he’d want if it was his wedding, prompting him to walk out.

Downstairs, Nikau asks Alf if he’s heard anything about Marilyn. Cash comes downstairs and Alf demands to know where Marilyn is. Cash says they need to respect her decision amd Alf shouts that he doesn’t need lectures on respect. He clutches his chest and Roo and Nikau get him to sit down. Alf continues to insist that if anything happens to Marilyn, it’ll be Cash’s fault.

Upstairs, Felicity apologises to Eden for ambushing her. Tane and Eden both tell her it was too soon but Eden says both she and Cash want to help with the wedding. After Eden has gone, Felicity tells Tane that Cash used to like Eden and now she likes him too, she might be the one to save him.

Alf continues to accuse Cash of being responsible for anything that happens to Marilyn as Nikau gets him some water. Roo asks Cash if there’s anything he can tell them. Cash says Marilyn doesn’t want to see them and, as Eden comes past, notes people sometimes need space. Roo says they’re not going to give up and insists Marilyn needs them.

Kirby is trying to avoid talking by focusing on the questions from the radio station, but does tell Theo that she’s only been messaging Bob a day. She says the radio station want to know where the name Lyrik came from and Theo retorts that she’d know better than him. Eden comes through but refuses to talk, going to her room. Kirby says she’d be fine with him meeting an ex and Theo retorts that she was fine with him kissing a stranger. Eden, who can hear them from her room, comes back out and says they’re lucky they’ve got each other. Theo asks Kirby why she lied, then leaves. Kirby tells Eden it was her advice that got her into this.

Back at their home, Roo tells Alf that it’s too far to drive tonight so she’ll go in the morning. Alf says he’ll be ready but Roo says he’s not coming, since they don’t need him having another medical crisis. Nikau arrives to check on Alf. On learnig that Roo’s planning to go on his own, he offers to go with her, feeling guilty that he didn’t spot what was going on with Heather.

Eden says she told Kirby not to tell Theo and Kirby replies that she didn’t: He saw the message on her phone. There’s a knock at the door which Eden assumes is Theo coming back but it’s not: It’s Cash to see her. Outside the house, Cash apologises for walking out but says Felicity shouldn’t have brought them together. Eden bitterly says that he obviously thinks them spending time together is awful. Cash says they’d never work: They got together the first time on the anniversary of his dad’s death when Felicity was still in denial. He says he needs to get his life sorted. Eden wonders if he wants to go back to being friends. Cash thinks they can’t.

On the balcony at Salt, Felicity jokingly asks Theo about her fee for appearing in Lyrik’s video. Theo asks her about Kirby and Bob. Felicity says Bob’s a tool but he’s asking the wrong person: Kirby arrives, revealing Eden is with Cash, and Felicity leaves her and Theo to it. Kirby says Theo’s right that she should have spoken to him but she needs closure, after Bob gave her an ultimatum and just left.

Tane is surprised to find Nikau packing a bag. Nikau explains about going with Roo to find Marilyn. Tane says that’s good of him. Felicity arrives and goes out the back to speak to Cash. He apologises for how the meeting went and says he does want to help out with the wedding. However, he doesn’t think he and Eden are going to be okay.

Next morning, Marilyn is working at a soup kitchen near an abandoned train station. She spots a young woman sitting on her own and brings her some food. She sits near her and tries engaging her in conversation. The woman suggests if Marilyn eats as well then that’s stealing from the needy. Marilyn says she brought her food with her. The woman says this is the best part of her day and she doesn’t want to spend it chit-chatting with a do-gooder. Marilyn puts her sandwich in the back of a van just as Roo and Nikau arrive.

Kirby and Eden are eating peanut butter outside the house with Eden complaining that men make things complicated. Theo arrives with coffees. Eden takes hers and leaves them to it. Theo tells Kirby that he doesn’t love that she kept the texts from him but won’t stop her seeing Bob. Kirby thanks him for trusting her, saying Bob was always controlling, and decides to tell Bob the meeting’s off.

Marilyn is upset that Cash broke her confidence. Roo tries to convince her to come home while Nikau apologises for not realising what was going on with Heather. Marilyn insists that she’s fine. Roo apologises for comparing their situations last time they spoke but Marilyn insists she’s not going back because she needs to be there. Roo tells Nikau it looks like they’re volunteering.

Round the back of the Parata house, Cash, Tane and Felicity are going through a new list that includes photographer, catering and flowers, the result of Tane asking Gemma for advice. Cash talks car rental and Felicity asks for a police escort. Cash says that’s illegal but promises to get her something flash. Eden arrives and Felicity says this is just a pre-meeting meeting. Eden asks to speak to Cash, and Tane and Felicity go to look over the e-mail inside. Eden says Cash is right that they can’t be friends but still wants to help Felicity. Cash suggests they just do their own stuff.

Roo is serving food with Marilyn criticising the amount of scrambled egg she’s giving people. Marilyn says she can help people there. The woman she spoke to earlier grabs Marilyn’s bag from the back of the van and runs off. Nikau chases after her, with them passing several people sleeping rough. The woman hides round a corner and Nikau runs past. She ducks into a tent but Nikau finds her there. She tells him to call the police if he wants but Nikau says he won’t and asks why she stole from someone that’s trying to help her. Back at the soup kitchen, Roo tells Marilyn they can buy her a new handbag and cancel her cards but Marilyn says she doesn’t care about the bag: She tried to help that girl and failed again. Roo asks if she’s trying to make up for what happened in the past.
