Ziggy hides the truth from Justin. Can Roo convince Marilyn to come home? Alf doesn’t need Leah’s babysitting.
Extended Summary
Ziggy meets up with Dean and Justin on the beach, saying that she’s been in bed while they’ve been surfing. Justin asks if Ziggy can open up the garage, since he’s meant to be going with Leah to check up on Alf. Ziggy says she can run it for the whole day if he wants, since her morning sickness is better. Justin agrees.
Ziggy and Dean head to Salt where Ziggy steals some of Dean’s food. They discuss the pregnancy’s progress and Ziggy notes the baby is growing hair and fingernails now. She jokes that Dean would want to have the baby tattooed as soon as they get home…and when Dean doesn’t exactly look against the idea, threatens to call Karen if he does.
Irene chats to Xander at the Diner: He is just starting his shift and comments that no two days are the same. Justin arrives to pick up Leah, who has a large amount of food ready to bring with them. Justin, who is in the middle of arranging for a customer to bring their car to the garage, is nervous about spending time with Alf given the mood he’s in these days. They discuss the lack of news from Roo.
In the city, Roo has tracked Marilyn down to a bin and says she left without saying anything. Marilyn agrees she’s trying to make up for her mistakes. Roo tries to argue there’s nothing to make up for but Marilyn replies that she abandoned her daughter and now knows what happened to her. Roo still thinks Marilyn should be around people that understand her. Marilyn asks if they really see her the same way. Roo replies that she actually thinks Marilyn’s stronger now. Marilyn asks Roo to let her help people.
Nikau is sat with Sloane in her tent. Sloane complains about people trying too hard to be nice. She says the cash in the bag is all she needs. Nikau says it’s a quick fix and Sloane retorts that that’s how they live, day to day. She says people like Marilyn just come there to feel good about themselves. Nikau disagrees, talking about how Marilyn took his family in when they were homeless and says she’s going through some stuff. Sloane asks what. Later, Sloane returns the bag to Marilyn. Marilyn says she’d have given her money if she asked and Sloane says she’s tried that and people pretend not to see her. She tells Marilyn she’s not her daughter so not to use her as a replacement. Roo tells her to go.
Ziggy is preparing to have a shower before work. Dean offers to join her and notes she’s starting to feel different but in a good way. Ziggy makes to leave but then doubles up in pain. Meanwhile, Justin and Leah call round to see a less than gracious Alf. Justin says Roo can be very persuasive and wonders where she gets that from. Alf gives him a dirty look and Justin says it’s probably Martha. Leah quietly warns Justin that Marilyn might have already decided not to come back.
Dean is tending to Ziggy as the ambulance arrives; Ziggy responds to Dean pointing it out by saying she’s not deaf. Xander and his partner arrive and they tell him Ziggy’s about 22 weeks: She has a dull pain, sharp down the sides, but there’s no bleeding. Xander agrees with Dean’s suggestion that she might have done something on the beach.
Alf is pacing back and forth as Leah offers him another cup of tea. He still thinks he should have gone to see Marilyn but Leah argues that it would just crowd her. Irene also arrives with lunch and Alf complains about having another babysitter. Justin comes back in on the phone and tells them that the garage is closed.
Inevitably, no-one notices a silent phone call from Justin as Xander tends to Ziggy. He thinks the fact the pain is settling down means it’s nothing serious but Dean rather bluntly insists they go to the hospital to get her checked out. Meanwhile, Marilyn complains to Nikau about telling Sloane about Heather. Nikau says he only told her about her losing her daughter. Roo again tries to convince her to come back and she and Nikau both tell her she’s a good person. Roo says the people there deserve a second chance and so does Marilyn.
Marilyn arrives back in town with Roo and Nikau. They drop Nikau off at a car park and the others drive on. Justin appears and chats briefly to Nikau about Marilyn being back, before telling him about the garage being closed and not being able to get hold of Ziggy or Dean. Marilyn and Roo arrive back at the caravan park where Marilyn is somewhat thrown to find Alf, Irene and Leah all waiting for her. They greet her warmly. Alf says he’ll never forgive himself for the way he treated her and should have listened to her more. Marilyn says that’s pretty hard when she wasn’t willing to talk. Alf asks her never to leave him a letter like that again.
Ziggy and Dean arrive home. Dean tries to get Ziggy to relax, as Xander pops by to check on how Ziggy’s doing. Ziggy says the doctor told them it was just muscle cramps. After Xander’s gone, Ziggy admits she’s scared at the idea of something actually going wrong. She asks for pizza and a cuddle before hugging him. Meanwhile, Alf thanks Roo for bringing Marilyn back and Roo talks about how much guilt and shame Marilyn’s feeling. Irene and Leah leave after telling Marilyn she doesn’t need to come back to work when she’s ready. Alf tells Marilyn they all make mistakes and the important thing is to face up to them. Marilyn notes she’ll have to tell the police the whole story. She goes out into the corridor and rings them, saying she’s ready to make a statement about Heather.
Justin arrives at the farm house and is surprised to find Ziggy going about her day. Ziggy remembers she was meant to be opening the garage. Justin is annoyed, saying he was worried about her and has clients phoning him. At Salt, Dean has filled in Mackenzie, who is annoyed he didn’t let her know there was a problem. Dean says they handled it and accepts three pizzas.
Justin tries to get an explanation from Ziggy, who just says she messed up and forgot, refusing to give any other details. Justin asks if he’s meant to tell the customers his manager has baby brain. As Dean arrives back, Justin says customers don’t come back if they’re let down and he gave her the job because he thought she was up to it. He leaves, saying he’ll open up himself.
