Extended Summary
Remi is down on the beach and sees Bree and Jacob nearby, in an apparently good mood. Bree jokes about getting Jacob on a board and asks him to put some lotion on her back. She winces as he touches her ribs and he asks if it’s still sore, being more gentle, They head into the water together while Remi continues to watch, unhappy.
Back at the caravan park house, Rose has joined Alf, Roo and Marilyn in order to take Marilyn’s statement. Alf offers to stay with her but Marilyn says she has to do it on her own so Alf and Roo leave the room. Rose starts the recording and asks Marilyn when she first met Heather. After checking Rose means as an adult, Marilyn starts to talk about how Heather was one of Roo’s students.
Justin arrives at the Diner and tells Leah that he found Ziggy at home and she’d just forgotten to open up the garage. Leah suggests she’s adjusting to the job and Justin suggests she’s not up to it. Leah reminds him he took a while to get used to being a band manager. Justin accepts the point but says the whole point was for Ziggy to manage the garage while he concentrates on the band.
Mackenzie approaches Remi on the balcony at Salt and comments on how he’s barely touched his drink. She notes he’s often come in and sat on his own lately, asking if there’s anything she could do to help. Remi wishes there was. Back at the motel, Bree examines her reflection, as if looking for scars. Jacob comes back in and says today was fun, which Bree agrees with. She asks him when his flight is tomorrow but he doesn’t want to discuss it. She suggests they go out for dinner but Jacob tries to drag her to bed. Clearly uncomfortable, Bree first tries to say she’s hungry, then pushes him away and says they need to talk about their future. Jacob agrees and sits the opposite side of the room to her but doesn’t seem happy.
Marilyn has finished off with Rose and says she knows Heather did awful things. Rose acknowledges that Marilyn loves her. Marilyn asks what will happen to her and Rose says that depends on the psychiatric assessment. Marilyn suggests the jury will see she’s mentally unwell and Rose says it might not go that far. Rose leaves and Alf and Roo come back in. They tell Marilyn they’re proud of her but Marilyn isn’t sure that’s the word since she’s just abandoned her daughter again.
Justin and Leah are having dinner at Salt. Leah says Ziggy let Justin down. Justin admits he used the phrase “baby brain” and Leah says he can’t say being pregnant is affecting her performance at work: There’s no way to prove it so it’s just prejudice. She wonders if Theo could step up but Justin says he’s not qualified. At the bar, Mackenzie guesses Remi has girl troubles. Remi says the girl’s married and that’s a line he doesn’t cross.
At the farm house, Dean asks Ziggy if Justin asked for an explanation. Ziggy says he did but she didn’t know what to say. Dean suggests she could have told the truth. Ziggy doesn’t want to use her pregnancy as an excuse or have Justin treat her differently, so tells Dean not to say anything to him. Mackenzie comes home and Ziggy complains about feeling like a useless pregnant woman before apologising. Dean leaves the two women alone as Mackenzie offers to join Ziggy for a camomile tea.
Bree tells Jacob they’re always too tired or busy to talk. She pulls away when he approaches her and says she can’t keep living like this: Him being away a lot and then things being intense when he’s there. Jacob says it’s because she gets used to being alone. Bree says the injuries and his controlling behaviour aren’t normal. Jacob pulls her into a hug which she doesn’t seem relaxed in, saying he goes too far sometimes because he loves her and insisting it’s only her. Back at his house, Remi is strumming his guitar. Bree lies next to a sleeping Jacob, not looking at all comforted. She goes to the bathroom and stops short when she sees her reflection, apparently not liking what she sees.
Next morning, Mackenzie sees Remi near the surf club. Remi’s attention is focused on Bree and Jacob. Jacob suggests Bree works too hard and they could get leave together. Bree says it’s just because she didn’t eat last night. Jacob says after they eat, he’ll take her back to bed. He goes to answer a call from his boss, George, and Bree heads down to the beach without saying anything to Remi.
At the Diner, Leah reminds Justin to be calm with Ziggy. He leaves, passing Alf, Marilyn and Roo. Marilyn says it was good to spend the night in her own bed and asks if she can come back to work. Leah happily agrees, saying it’s good to see her back to her old self. Rose comes in: She’s just finished a night shift but is spending the day with Xander instead of sleeping. She tells Marilyn that the statements have been lodged with the prosecutor and Heather’s getting the help she needs.
Ziggy is in a brighter mood and tells Dean that her talk with Mackenzie helped. Dean asks to not have any more days like yesterday. Justin arrives and tells Ziggy that he thinks he’s been putting too much work on her so he’s going to cut her hours.
At Salt, Mackenzie asks Remi if Bree was the woman he was talking about and he confirms it. Bree comes in and Remi says he’s been worried about her. Bree says Jacob’s leaving sooner than she expected so things will be back to normal soon. Remi asks about next time and Bree assures him she’ll come up with a better plan. Jacob comes in and Bree suggests they get a table outside. Jacob instead says they’ll order in and ushers her out.
Justin enters the surf club. Dean approaches him and tells him he’s wrong to make out Ziggy’s not up to her job. Justin says he’s trying to make things easier for her and it’s clear from yesterday that she’s not coping. Dean starts to argue, then stops himself. Justin says he has to run the business the way he sees best. Dean says he’s making a mistake.
Bree and Jacob arrive back at the motel room. Bree starts to say she didn’t know Remi would be there. Jacob tells her to sit and tells her he’s not going back to WA: He’s going to resign and stay there with her. He hugs her. Bree looks like she’s facing the firing squad.
