Extended Summary

Cash and Jasmine walk along the pier. Cash notes that Felicity says no every year and Jasmine comments on it still being a disappointment. She offers to go with him but Cash asks her to stay and keep an eye on Felicity instead, noting she normally takes off and he’s surprised she hasn’t. Round the back of the Parata house, Felicity is dancing. Tane wants to talk about what she said, asking if the police investigated. Felicity says they did the bare minimum and had already made up their minds. She fears Cash will be waiting for her at the van. Tane invites her to stay there, promising no more questions, and dances with her.

Alf is on the phone to Roo, saying at least Martha will be close to home. Marilyn comes in and makes a caustic remark about ambushing her. Alf says she didn’t call for four weeks, then as soon as she did, he came back. Marilyn accepts he wouldn’t deliberately hurt her but thinks he’s been manipulated. Alf thinks she called him because deep down she knows something’s wrong. At the farm house, Ziggy asks Dean how his movie with Jai went, thinking talking cars are no substitute for surfing. Dean still believes he won’t surf again. He gets a text and learns his instructor’s cancelled when they’re booked up with lessons all day.

Alf and Marilyn have summoned Logan back. He says he’s found someone independent for Marilyn to talk to: Professor Hughes, the head of psychiatry at the university, who thinks Marilyn needs a short stay in hospital for medication and therapy. Marilyn protests that’s what he and Doctor Singh say, but Alf suggests maybe it’s because that’s right. Logan says Hughes told him people with psychological effects from organophosphate poisoning sometimes don’t know anything’s wrong and think their friends are lying to them. He suggests she sleep on it. Next morning, at the Diner, Jasmine chats to Irene about Cash. Roo arrives, saying Martha’s been transferred back to Northern Districts and needs a transplant: She and Kieran are both being tested. She asks about Marilyn. Jasmine leaves Irene to answer.

Tane and Felicity are walking on the beach and run into Jasmine, who asks to talk to Felicity. Felicity reluctantly agrees and Tane leaves them to it. Jasmine says it was her idea to talk to her, since she knows about loss. They head to the Diner, where Felicity says she’ll eat while Jasmine talks. Jasmine tells her about not visiting Robbo’s grave, saying it would have made it real and she struggled as a result. Felicity says she’s not in denial about her father dying, she just doesn’t want to buy into the lies about it. Jasmine suggests Cash can’t move on without her.

Roo has joined Alf and tries to suggest Martha being back home will help. Alf replies that the dialysis hasn’t worked. He can’t donate because of his heart. Roo notices Marilyn has been lingering nearby. Marilyn asks why they didn’t tell her. Alf suggests she has enough to worry about. At the surf club, Dean is on the phone trying to drum up another instructor. Ziggy accosts Logan but finds he doesn’t surf. Logan asks about Dean. Ziggy thinks spending time with Jai has cheered him up. Logan mentions Dean was throwing accusations around at the hospital but leaves when he gets a phone call.

Felicity meets with Cash on the beach. He says he was surprised to get her message. Felicity acknowledges she normally just leaves. She apologises for letting him do it on his own and offers to go with him on one condition: He investigates their father’s death. Cash says even if he had the influence, it would be pointless. Felicity walks away, both convinced they’re the one doing right by their father. At the surf club, Dean laments to Ziggy that he’ll have to cancel the classes and blames Logan, telling Ziggy about him not giving him the operation. He says that when he had his first accident, the doctors were straight with him that he couldn’t play football anymore. He says he’s accepted he won’t surf again and needs to find another way to make a living. He sends Ziggy off to work.

Marilyn arrives at the Diner and tells Irene she’s heard about Martha. She thinks that maybe everyone’s right about Logan and about her as well. Logan arrives, having been summoned by Marilyn. She tells him she’d like him to help her. They head back to hers where she gets her bags. Alf and Roo come in and she explains she’s going to hospital for a few days. They note Martha will be there as well so it won’t be hard to see her. Marilyn nervously jokes she’ll visit Martha when she’s let out of her straightjacket.

Outside the Diner, Cash is getting ready to leave. He says his goodbyes to Jasmine, who stands with Tane as he says an awkward goodbye to Felicity. They hug and she notes she’s got his naughty nurse and her personal bodyguard keeping an eye on her. Cash drives off. Meanwhile, Ziggy arrives back at the surf club after a test drive and finds Dean has put his boards up for sale. She protests that they include the one he won the surf comp with and Colby’s. She worries he’ll regret selling them if he recovers but Dean says having them there when he can’t use them is painful. They go up to Salt and run into Logan, who says he’s had a good result with a patient and asks them to have a drink to celebrate. Dean says he doesn’t want to drink or celebrate and it’s Logan’s fault.
