Dean cruelly lashes out at Mackenzie. Tane searches for hard evidence. Ari’s past life is looking all too familiar again.
Extended Summary
Outside the surf club, Mia and Ari are discussing buying the gym. Ari points out they can’t just hand over a bag of cash. Mia says they’ll have to make it look less dodgy. Ari dryly notes they could ask Jasmine’s boyfriend for advice, as Jasmine and Cash approach. Cash leaves and Jasmine asks if they know what’s happened to Tane, noting she’s glad it won’t be her problem much longer. At the caravan park, Tane is looking under the van, asking what happened to the roses. Felicity points out that they were put in the bin, which gets emptied. Tane tells her about finding the roses on his car and bag. Felicity agrees it’s creepy but denies stalking him and tells him to leave, which he does. Jasmine, running nearby, has seen the tail end of the argument from a distance and asks Felicity what that was about. Felicity says she slept with the wrong guy.
Dean is in pain as he tries to get out of bed. Mackenzie comes in and offers to help him but Dean just asks her to give him the crutches. He refuses to take any more pain relief but fails to stand up, snapping at Mackenzie to get out. Logan comes in and Dean accuses Mackenzie of only staying to get it on wih him. Mackenzie walks out, upset. Meanwhile, Felicity is complaining to Jasmine about Tane’s mixed messages, although on reflection she notes he’s hot enough that she’d hook up with him anyway. She says Cash is on Tane’s side but admits she does lie sometimes. Jasmine offers to take her out to lunch.
Logan rejoins Mackenzie and tells her not to take what Dean said to heart. Mackenzie knows that he was just lashing out but says he’s never been that cruel to her before. She says she needs a minute. Logan tells her to take a break completely for a couple of hours. She runs into Tane down on the beach and he notes she looks as good as he feels. Mackenzie snaps at him, then apologises. She tells him she’s having trouble with Dean and that Ziggy’s away but doesn’t give him any details.
Tane goes to the gym, meeting up with Ari and Mia. Mia tells him he’d better not behave like this when they buy the gym. Tane wonders how they’ve got the money to do that. Mia says Ari can explain. Ari takes him outside. Tane asks if Ari’s won the lotto or on the horses. Ari admits it’s the money from the job he did, which he left with Mia. Tane is shocked, despite Ari explaining it will help with the adoption, and wonders how he’s going to make it look not dodgy. Ari says he was hoping Tane would help with that.
Dean makes his way back into the living area and challenges Logan to say something about Mac. Logan says Dean needs to think about pushing people away and that they’ll do things his way, with no painkillers. Meanwhile, Jasmne and Felicity arrive at the surf club and are met by Mia, who asks Jasmine if she’s heard from the solicitor. Jasmine says she’ll get back to her. Cash approaches and Felicity heads upstairs. Jasmine realises she’s forgotten they had a date and explains she’s agreed to lunch with Felicity, suggesting she and Cash have a drink together later instead. She tells him about Tane turning up at the caravan park and doesn’t think Felicity’s up to anything.
Logan jokes about Dean’s rehab consisting of not moving. Dean accuses him of letting him suffer but Logan says he’s not: The pain medication’s right there. He asks if Dean wants his life back and says he won’t get there otherwise. Meanwhile, Mackenzie has gone back to the flat and changed. She gets a call from Amber and tells her that Dean isn’t talking to anyone, discouraging her from bringing Jai over. She notices the photos of Jai on the fridge and takes one.
At the Parata house, Ari shows Tane the bag of cash. Tane notes he can’t explain it away as a garage sale. Ari says everyone he used to deal with is in jail or worse. Tane is bewildered that Ari is asking him for help, saying he needs to turn the money into a bank cheque…or he could just throw it in the river. There’s a knock on the door and Ari says it’s the cops. He disappears out the back with the money while Tane lets Cash in. Outside the surf club, Jasmine assures Felicity that Cash just wants facts. She gives her her number to call any time. Nearby, Ari approaches Mia and says there’s a problem.
Tane tells Cash he wasn’t hassling Felicity, he was looking for evidence. He thinks that the roses disappearing from the bin is evidence that Felicity took them but Cash says not having evidence isn’t evidence. Tane shows him the notes. Cash doesn’t think it’s Felicity’s handwriting but says Tane can make a formal complaint or take out an AVO, which would mean coming down the station. Tane thinks it will sort itself out. Meanwhile, Ari is telling Mia about Cash’s visit and worries he know about the money. Mia tries to calm him. Ari gets a text from Tane saying “He’s gone. All good.”
Mackenzie returns to the farm house and Logan tells her Dean’s hiding in his bedroom. Mackenzie decides to take a sandwich in to him. She kisses Logan, saying it’s for being there, then heads into Dean’s room, where he has missed calls from Amber. Dean starts to apologise and Mackenzie notes she’s said hideous things to him in the past. She shows him the photo of Jai saying that he, she and Ziggy need him better. Dean agrees to take the painkillers. Meanwhile, Ari goes back to Tane, who says Cash’s visit was personal. Ari asks him again to help with the $150,000 but Tane says he can’t and the money will never be legit.
Cash and Jasmine are having their drink on the balcony at Salt. Jasmine thinks Felicity’s telling the truth and notes she said Tane’s playing mind games. Jasmine gets a text from her and Cash is amused that she gave her her number. Jasmine says she’s just waiting for Ari and Mia to sign to sell the gym. Mia arrives home and shows Ari the contract. Ari says Tane won’t help but he’s found someone who’s willing to turn the money into a bank cheque in exchange for commission. However, he warns her there’ll be no turning back.
