Nikau gets mixed results with his olive branches. Ari and Mia adopt some hope from John. Can Ziggy and Dean get back on the same page? Tane manages to avoid Felicity… well, almost.
Extended Summary
Nikau is by the beach and hears Bella on the phone, telling someone she assumed entry level meant she could learn on the job. Turning it off, she complains that they should say in the advert if it needs a degree. Nikau tells her that he still has the money for the camera if she wants it but Bella tells him to leave her alone. At the caravan park, Felicity is the worse for wear after a big night and Cash notes he’d rather enjoy his day off hangover free. He says he’s taking the car. Felicity guesses it’s for Jasmine and wonders if they’re still having lunch. Cash confirms he’ll meet her later. Jasmine appears and Felicity jokes about them using the back seat. Cash apologises but Jasmine says it’s the distraction she needs.
Bella is finishing off another phone call about an unsuccessful job application. Seeing John nearby, she asks if he has any jobs going at the juice bar. John asks what she knows about juice and all she can offer is that it comes from fruit. She wonders if Ryder’s upstairs. John suggests she call him but Bella says if it’s his day off he’d probably want to spend it with Chloe. She makes a move to get a drink, then realises she only has $2.65. John gives her some money, saying to pay him back when she gets a job. She then gets a call from Ziggy and confuses him by heading in the opposite direction. At the farm house, Ziggy is refusing to talk to Dean. Dean says if she’s not going to answer his question then he’s leaving, even if he has to walk to town. Bella turns up and Dean accuses Ziggy of bringing in reinforcements. Ziggy says she’ll go. Bella asks Dean what he did.
Tane is having a shower near the surf club. Felicity comes along and takes first his towel and then his shirt. Tane isn’t amused at her flirtatious behaviour. Felicity offers him the towel, then holds onto it so he pulls her towards him. Tane continues to insist nothing more will happen between them. Later, Ari and Mia are sat outside the surf club. Ari notes they won’t be able to adopt according to the lawyer but Mia says they just need to find one who’ll fight for them. Nikau sees them but doesn’t approach. John comes over and admits he thought Ari’s record would be a problem but didn’t want to burst their bubble. He explains that, after adopting Jett, he got a criminal record but was still cleared to foster, so maybe they could do that.
Cash and Jasmine take the lift in the hospital. Cash steps out but Jasmine doesn’t follow. She is having a check-up to see if she’s fit to return to work and worries what will happen if she isn’t. Cash points out that if she doesn’t go she won’t be cleared. Jasmine admits, despite the head injury, she’s only had one seizure since she’s been on medication and that’s because she didn’t take it. Cash convinces her to come. Later, on the pier, they celebrate her being cleared. Jasmine asks Cash if he always wanted to be a cop. She notes that, working in ICU, she is mostly just doing admin rather than hands-on nursing, and with the gym as well, she needs to simplify things.
At Salt, Nikau has filled Tane in on Ari and Mia’s adoption plans. Tane is hopeful for them but Nikau admits he told Ari that he wouldn’t be able to adopt because of his record. He confesses he doesn’t even know if it’s true or not, Ari was just getting under his skin. Cash and Felicity come in and Tane promptly decides to leave, giving Nikau the money to pay. Outside, Tane bumps into Ziggy. They initially seem keen to avoid each other but Tane ends up asking how things are going with Dean and Ziggy says they’re good before they awkwardly part.
Ari and Mia enter the Diner and, seeing Jasmine sat at a table, Ari steers Mia to talk with her. Mia asks her for a reference. Jasmine is confused, wondering if she wants another job, and they explain it’s a character reference for an adoption. Jasmine says she’ll be happy to do it. She is writing out a To Do list for her life. Suddenly hit by inspiration, she asks if it would help if they owned their own business and could choose their own hours, offering to sell them the gym. Later, at the Parata house, Mia tells Ari that they don’t qualify for a business loan, especially with his erratic employment, and don’t have enough savings. Nikau comes home and apologises for what he said earlier, hoping it works out for them.
Dean is preparing a cab but Bella reminds him that getting back with Ziggy is what he’d wanted for ages. Dean questions her point of view given her and Nikau but Bella says that’s different. Ziggy returns and Bella leaves them to it. Ziggy notes she should have told Dean the full story but says it makes no difference: Her and Tane are over, just like him and Amber, and they were both dumped for still being in love with the other one. Dean seems to accept it. Meanwhile, Mia is looking through the box of baby mementos. Right at the bottom, she finds a key and looks at it, seemingly coming to a decision.
Jasmine meets Cash at Salt and asks about Felicity. Cash says she bailed as soon as she got her free lunch. Jasmine tells him about selling the gym as a first step to streamlining. Meanwhile, Tane turns up at the caravan park and finds Felicity sat outside her van. He asks if her offer’s still open. Felicity pulls away and goes into her van, then asks if he’s just going to stand there. Tane follows her in. Later, they are curled up post-coital. Tane ignores questions about Ziggy but agrees this is good. They embrace again but then hear Cash and Jasmine approach and sit down outside. Tane looks less than pleased.
