Extended Summary
Bella and Nikau are showing Ari Bella’s first passport. Nikau notes Bella likes the smell but not the photo, with her complaining about not being allowed to smile. Nikau says he got an e-mail saying Gemma had booked the tickets for the day after tomorrow and reminds Bella she needs to tell Colby: She says she’ll do it tomorrow. Tane has been sat nearby but is showing no interest in the conversation. Mackenzie joins Ari, who tells Bella and Nikau about the farewell planned. Tane is startled that it’s going to be there and says he can’t help out. He goes outside to take a phone call from someone refusing to give him work. Mackenzie follows him out and tells him about Paul’s message. Tane says it’s just someone he used to work for and not to tell Ari.
At the Diner, Angelo asks Irene for another coffee but she has turned off the machine. Irene asks after Taylor and Angelo says she’s unwell. As Angelo is leaving, Colby arrives; the two of them silently face off until Irene calls Colby to the counter for his takeaway. Jasmine enters and asks Colby to have a drink with her at Salt. Colby says he’s just going to eat and go to bed but she insists on at least accompanying him upstairs to chat while he eats. She talks to him about spending time with Grace but then Colby finds Ari’s note inviting him to Bella and Nikau’s farewell, the first he’s heard about them going. He tells Jasmine he’s not in the mood and she leaves.
Next morning, Bella and Nikau volunteer to help out with the preparations for the barbecue. Nikau will go to Salt to get the drinks and Bella will get dessert from the Diner. Ari tells Mackenzie to set up at the house, which she takes to mean cleaning the barbecue. Tane comes in as Ari, Bella and Nikau all leave. Mackenzie quizzes him, noting he got glassed at Salt and then beaten up. Tane says it’s just two bits of bad luck and gets a text, heading outside to where Ziggy is waiting. She asks if he’s got the money sorted, blaming herself for getting rid of the van. Tane points out he agreed to do the job in the first place. As Ziggy worries about him, Mackenzie appears and demands answers.
Ryder and Nikau bring the drinks downstairs from Salt with Ryder hoping he doesn’t get left talking to people no-one else wants to at the party. Colby comes over and says he’s not going to let Nikau drag Bella to New Zealand. Ryder interjects that it’s Bella’s choice. Colby menacingly tells him to take a walk and Ryder complies. Nikau repeats that it’s up to’Bella and Colby can’t stop her. Colby says he’s stopped Nikau leaving the country once and would do so again. Nikau stops him in his tracks by saying Bella told him what happened to Ross and telling him to back off. At the Diner, Bella orders a mud cake from Irene, who asks the occasion. Jasmine says Bella’s going to New Zealand. Bella apologises for not telling Irene, saying it happened quickly. Jasmine tells her that Colby knows. Ryder rushes in and tells Bella she needs to find Colby, since he just fronted Nikau.
Ziggy and Tane have explained the situation to Mackenzie, who is horrified. Ari turns up in time to hear that Tane’s in trouble. Mackenzie tells Ziggy to leave them to it and Ziggy says to keep her in the loop. Ari asks what’s going on. Meanwhile, Colby finds Bella at the flat. She tells him that it’s down to him and the investigation that she’s leaving. Colby says she’s put them all in danger by telling Nikau. Bella retorts he did that by having an affair with Taylor and tells him not to pretend that he’s doing it for her. Colby shouts that he did everything for her: Spent six years searching for her, risked everything so she’d have a better life, and she repays him like this. Bella says he sounds like Ross and can’t stop her leaving.
Tane has filled in Ari, saying it was dumb to take the job but his life was spinning out of control. Ari angrily calls him stupid but says them fighting isn’t going to fix it. Ryder, Bella and Nikau turn up, discussing Colby. Nikau instantly realises Tane has been busted, leaving Ryder and Bella confused. Mackenzie tries to get the barbecue going but then they see a car arriving outside. Ari and Tane go out and are greeted by Paul and a henchman holding a crowbar. Ari tries to turn them away as Leon turns up with another henchman. Ari says anything Paul has to say to Tane he can say to him.
Irene serves Colby at the Diner and chats to him about Bella leaving. Colby isn’t exactly sociable. As he’s leaving, he runs into Ziggy, who says she heard about Amber taking Jai and asks how Dean is. Colby doubts that she cares and asks why she doesn’t talk to Dean. Ziggy says he knows why. Looking at his police ID badge, she says he has no right to be wearing it. Meanwhile, Mackenzie and Nikau have filled in Ryder and Bella. Ryder wants to call the police but the others tell him not to.
Colby arrives at the police station. He and Angelo greet each other. Angelo suggests Colby won’t be there for long and Colby retorts that Angelo can’t close any cases. He answers the phone and resignedly says he knows the address. Meanwhile, Paul has restated his case and says he followed Mackenzie there last night. Watching through the window, Mackenzie identifies Leon and Paul to the others. Nikau wants to go outside and the others try and stop him. The henchman with the crowbar smashes a headlight on their car, which brings the others out. Nikau shouts a warning to Ari and he and Tane take down the two henchmen. Nikau moves forward to join his uncles facing up to Paul and Leon, but then two police cars turn up with officers led by Colby. The two henchmen are overpowered again while the Paratas stand unresisting. Ryder says they took their time; Bella is annoyed that he called them.
Shortly after, everyone involved in the fight is sat on the ground, refusing to respond to Colby’s questions. He announces they’re all going down the station and sarcastically congratulates Bella on the family she’s got involved with. At the same time, Angelo is on the phone to his inspector, who isn’t sure there’s enough evidence yet. Angelo says the witness that’s come forward changes everything but the inspector says it’s just one person’s word against another’s. Angelo asks for permission to arrest Colby. The inspector says she’d want more evidence but it’s his case and his call.
