Extended Summary
Justin runs into Ziggy on the beach and tries to ask her about Ben and tell her that Brody regrets what happened, but Ziggy isn’t in the mood to hear it. Justin then gets a phone call. Back at the house, Scarlett is berating Kat for carrying out the search, thinking she shouldn’t be taking Jay’s accusation seriously when she knows Brody. Justin arrives and is similarly angry, thinking Kat should have warned them and asking Scarlett if she can stop it. Irene and Brody try to calm them down and say to let the police get on with their jobs. Murray appears with a pair of Brody’s shoes he’s found: They have blood on them.
Leah and VJ are outside the caravan park house, discussing how exams are going. Roo appears and says she’s off to the city for the accelerated course that will get her her DipEd, but assures them she’ll only be gone two weeks and has arranged a temporary tutor. VJ gets a text from Coco, but dismisses the significance of it, saying it’s just how kids talk. At the farm house, Coco gets a text back arranging to meet at the Diner. Ziggy comes home but ignores Maggie’s attempt at small talk and especially Ben asking if she saw Brody. Coco asks how long it’s going to go on. Maggie follows Ben into their bedroom where he’s reading a surfing mag. She suggests he’s being too hardline but Ben thinks backing down will be saying that ice is no big deal. Maggie thinks he should give Ziggy some space. Ben says he just wants to keep her safe.
At Salt, Scarlett and Justin attempt to question Brody but he can’t remember what happened, although he does note the shoes were the ones he was wearing when Justin found him. He stops Justin phoning Tori and Mason. Scarlett tries to convince them to wait for the results on the blood. They ponder what happened to the screwdriver and wonder if it’s still at the house. Scarlett heads to the police station where McCarthy is unconvinced by the case Kat is assembling: Even though there’s physical evidence, she’s basing the case on the testimony of a suspected drug dealer, although Kat argues that Jay has no record and Brody is facing charges. Scarlett turns up but Kat again rejects attempts to appeal to their friendship. McCarthy hands her the test results. Scarlett reports back to Justin and Brody: The blood on the shoes was Jay’s and Kat has referred the case to the DPP.
At the Diner, Coco is telling VJ that her house is like a war zone. Leah overhears part of the conversation and gets an explanation from Maggie, who says that Ben and Ziggy aren’t talking. VJ tells Coco that there is one thing that might work: Marilyn’s pepper pot. Meanwhile, at the Morgan house, Brody is taking comfort by cuddling up to Buddy. Justin tries to gee him up but Brody isn’t convinced that he didn’t stab Jay and thinks he’s going to jail.
Brody runs into Ziggy near the surf club. He tells her it wasn’t easy for him ending things but he feels he did the right thing since he could be in a lot of trouble. Ziggy tries to ask him for details but Brody refuses to talk and she walks away, frustrated. Up at Salt, Ben, Maggie and Coco are sat waiting. Ziggy comes in and almost walks out when she sees Ben and Maggie there (Coco led her to believe it would just be them) but Coco steers her to the table. Coco produces the pepper pot and starts giving a variation of Marilyn’s spiel about having to listen to the person who holds it. Maggie approves, comparing it to Aboriginal talking sticks. Coco tells her not to turn it into a history lesson. Maggie tells Coco to start.
Scarlett is alone in the flat and shoots looks at Kat’s bag. Outside, Justin stops Kat when she arrives home and tries to get her to drop the case against Brody, saying both the syndicate and Zannis have people inside and Brody would never survive in prison. While they argue, Scarlett takes the file on the case out of Kat’s bag and photographs a page including Jay’s address. She goes to Justin and tells him she has a plan. Later, Kat briefly looks for her bag and tells Scarlett they won’t discuss the case after hours. Scarlett says she’s going to the movies, which throws Kat slightly but she says she’s having Robbo round. After Kat has gone to get changed, Scarlett looks at the photo on her phone.
Maggie finishes her turn by saying she just wants Ben and Ziggy to talk. It’s Ben’s turn and he tells Ziggy he’s worried about her and she lied to them. Maggie and Coco stop Ziggy interrupting and Ben says that he doesn’t like the idea of her with Brody but can’t stop her and just wants her to be honest with them. Ziggy reluctantly takes the pepper pot but only manages to stammer a few words before saying she can’t do it and rushing out. At the Diner, VJ gets a text from Coco saying she’s on her way. Leah warns him not to let her get too attached. Coco turns up and tells VJ the pepper pot didn’t work. He tells her she’s got a good heart and Coco puts a hand on his arm. Leah shoots him a pointed look which he seems to not entirely disagree with.
Scarlett turns up at Jay’s house. A girl answer the door and Scarlett says her name is Sarah and Jay promised her some “stuff”. The girl says Jay is out so Scarlett asks to come in and wait. She gives the girl some money to go and buy some cigarettes, then puts on a pair of black gloves. At the farm house, Ben and Maggie chat in their room while Ziggy listens from the corridor. They worry about her behaviour. Ben thinks it’s down to Brody but Maggie thinks there’s something she isn’t telling them, something big.
Scarlett searches Jay’s house and eventually finds a bloodied screwdriver wrapped in a rag under the kitchen sink. She photographs it with her phone and takes it, but then Jay arrives home. Scarlett hides in between some cupboards as Jay walks about just a few feet away.
