Extended Summary

Scarlett continues to hide in the kitchen as Jay chats on the phone to a friend, telling him not to bring any gear with him and assuring him he’s got plenty stashed. Scarlett manages to emerge from hiding long enough to replace the screwdriver but has to duck back between the cupboards when Jay’s mates turn up and he goes into the kitchen to get a beer. Scarlett rings Justin at his home and explains where she is, asking him to come up with a distraction so she can get out of there.

Kat and Robbo are eating at the Diner with Kat complaining about Scarlett expecting her to ignore the evidence. Robbo seems distracted however. John and Marilyn come over to them and Marilyn asks if they’re on a date. They both deny it but Marilyn thinks they make a cute couple, although John’s adjective is dodgy. Kat and Robbo end up heading upstairs where Kat tries to put a positive spin on it. Robbo is still haunted by what he may have done on the boat but Kat thinks it was self-defence and that he probably saved her from Dylan. They go to the bedroom.

Justin turns up at Jay’s house and hammers on the door, bringing Jay’s attention. Justin tells Jay to stop lying about Brody or else. Jay attempts to turn away and Justin mocks him for hiding behind the police, prompting Jay, with the screen still between them, to threaten to go about him with a pool cue. Justin sees Scarlett sneak out the back way so gives a lame rejoinder about saying what he came there for, then leaves. He meets up with Scarlett nearby and she chides him for threatening Jay in front of witnesses, then leaves a message for Kat to ring her as soon as possible.

Ben and Maggie are in bed; Ben is worried about Ziggy and thinks Maggie is right that there’s something more going on. He decides to get up and watch Point Break but when he goes into the living area he finds Ziggy, looking upset and with earphones in, deleting all her photos of Brody. He goes back to the bedroom without her seeing him. Meanwhile, Justin and Scarlett turn up at the flat but Scarlett, worried Jay will get rid of the evidence, gets Justin to leave before she sees Kat. Even though Kat is in the bedroom with Robbo, Scarlett calls her out and tells her to get a warrant to search Jay’s place. Kat is reluctant so Scarlett gives her full details of where the weapon is, claiming she got the information from a confidential informant. Kat makes the call to McCarthy.

Next morning, Robbo is running on the beach. John complains to Marilyn about his latest group of trainee lifeguards but she is mostly focused on Robbo. John moans about women always falling for bad boys and suggests Robbo should get a job. Marilyn points out that he works at the caravan park but John thinks he should do more since he’s able-bodied. Marilyn agrees in a tone that suggests she means in another way. Meanwhile, at the farm, Maggie has cooked all Ziggy’s favourites for breakfast. She notes things have changed since Ziggy’s been with Brody and says she can talk to her, even though they’ve been distant the past couple of years. Ben comes in and, without giving her much choice, tells Ziggy to come surfing with him.

Near the beach, Justin is giving Brody an update on Scarlett’s actions the previous night. Brody is impressed but also worried that they might find his fingerprints on the screwdriver after all. However, he thinks they’re better off knowing. Ben and Ziggy come past and the two groups look at each other without saying anything. Scarlett turns up and confirms Kat got the warrant. At the police station, Kat shows McCarthy the report: Brody’s fingerprints aren’t on the screwdriver but Jay’s are, and when confronted he went back to his old story of having fallen on it. McCarthy is annoyed that Kat pushed ahead with charges against Brody, saying she should have searched Jay’s house at the same time as the Morgans’, and tells her to call the DPP and let them know.

Ben chats to Ziggy about surfing while they walk away from the beach. Ziggy wonders why he’s acting normal again and Ben says he’s just trying to get everything back on track. He asks about Brody and Ziggy admits he dumped her. Ben says he’s a fool and didn’t deserve her. At the police station, McCarthy tells Kat he’s just had an awkward conversation with the DPP. He notes that Kat has got personally involved in a lot of cases recently and this time she was so eager to show that she was impartial that she went too far the other way. He says that he can’t recommend her for detective.

Robbo is lugging bags at the caravan park (shirtless) and getting ogled by female guests, which frustrates John. John asks him when he’s planning to leave, saying that customers are staying away because of him. Robbo doesn’t want to hurt Alf’s business but can’t afford to live otherwise. John suggests he get a job in Yabbie Creek or the city. At the Diner, Ben and Ziggy are having a well-worn argument about Ben’s theory that The Fast and the Furious is Point Break with cars instead of surfing. Maggie appears and is pleased that they’re getting on. John tells Alf that he’s got rid of Robbo for him. Alf isn’t happy that he’s lost the person who does the heavy lifting and thinks John is trying to keep him away from Marilyn. John denies it but when he returns home he finds Robbo there: Marilyn has hired him as a handyman, to fix all the things John has broken.

Kat meets up with Brody, Scarlett and Justin on the headland and tells them there’ll be no charges over the stabbing. Justin makes a barbed remark about her doing her job but Brody and Scarlett are just happy to celebrate…even though Brody still has to go to court. At the farmhouse, Ben notes Maggie was quiet on the way back. She observes Ben and Ziggy were doing all the talking and reflects that, even though she noticed something was wrong, Ziggy wouldn’t talk to her. Ben says they used to be close but Maggie says not since Ziggy was fifteen. Although they both think everything is sorted, in her room Ziggy takes out a box marked “Private” and removes a newspaper clipping with the headline “Hooded Vandals Target Girls School: Teacher Injured” and a picture of Maggie.

Justin and Scarlett have a celebratory drink at Salt. Scarlett says it felt good to help someone she cared about and Justin says she was amazing. He wonders how she knew where Jay lived but Scarlett doesn’t say. However, when she gets home she finds Kat has worked it out and is furious at Scarlett for looking through confidential files and breaking into Jay’s house, accusing her of ruining her chance to make detective. Scarlett retorts that Kat shouldn’t have left the file lying around. Kat asks her for a reason not to arrest her.
