Extended Summary

RECAP
Max is missing, and Rhys asks Kirsty and Jade about his “hole in the ground” shrine, thinking that he might know where it is. They grab torches, Rhys puts the soup on the stove, and they go off into the bush in search of Max. They come across the entrance to the mineshaft, and although Jade suggests that they should get help, Rhys decides that they don’t need it. As he descends the mineshaft, the entrance caves in, and all three of them plunge down into the mine… A further fall of rocks blocks the entrance.

***

CARAVAN PARK
Dani and Scott arrive for the party, finding the house empty and the soup burnt. Colleen also arrives, with presents, and they all begin to wonder where the family have disappeared to – especially as Rhys has left his wallet.

MINESHAFT
As the trio adjust to their surroundings, Rhys makes sure the twins are alright, before realising that the entrance is now blocked – they must clear the rocks to get out. Max’s voice then filters through, and he tells them that he has hurt his leg and is unable to get to them. Instead, they make their way towards Max.

BEACH HOUSE
Flynn arrives to see Irene, but she is in bed resting. Tasha wants to know what he found out in the city – did he meet her parents, but he says no. As Tahsa wanders off, Kane exits his room, expecting it to be Kirsty at the door, and is somewhat disappointed to see Flynn. Flynn approaches the topic of the events at the dance – it was quite a show – but Kane knows that he didn’t start it, and Rhys just manages to push his buttons. Flynn warns him not to make a habit of losing it, but Kane doesn’t have time to discuss it – Kirsty will be there any minute.

DINER
Flynn arrives, announcing to Alf that he and Sal are just back from the city. Seb exits the kitchen area, dressed up snartly and rose in hand, to compliments from Alf. As he leaves, Alf enquires as to what Flynn has found out, and Flynn admits that they have some new information, refusing to tell Alf anything else.

CARAVAN PARK
The Hunter’s are now home, and Dani explains the situation, with Robbie joking at the suggestion that they may have gone for a walk. Colleen helpfully discusses the possibility of ghosts or aliens, whilst Scott reassures Dani. Robbie changes the subject, wondering if he can expect get a “flash present” for his seventeenth, and Kit is trying to find out where Noah has disappeared to. Seb arrives, and tells the gathered party that he didn’t seen the Sutherland’s on his way, and the last he heard of Jade she was heading home. It seems that four people have disappeared without a trace.

MINESHAFT
Jade, Kirsty and an injured Max sit in the opening with Eloise’s shrine whilst Rhys tries to clear the entrance.

CARAVAN PARK
Seb arrives back, announcing that he can’t find the family on the beach or at the surf club, and Alf hasn’t seen them either. Dani can’t understand it – even if it were an emergency they’d have left a note, especially as they knew that people would be arriving for the party. Seb suggests a ‘plausible’ explanation – maybe Kane wanted them gone – after all, he did say he wanted to kill Rhys. Kit thinks that he’s being stupid – after all, it’s four people, but Seb stands his ground – Kirsty rejected Kane the previous night.

MINESHAFT
Rhys returns to the twins and Max, bringing bad news – the whole entrance has collapsed, and there is no way out – they have to wait until someone digs them out from the other side. Problem is, no one knows where they are.

Later, Rhys looks at Max’s anke, and checks that the twins are alright, reassuring them that once everyone turns up at the party, they’ll realise that something is up – they’ll have the SES – “the boys and girls in orange” out looking for them, and in the meantime they’ll cope with Max’s candle supply and sit it out.

BEACH HOUSE
Irene comes downstairs, finding Tasha making dinner. Tasha tells her that Kane is “out to see Kirsty”, and when Scott calls to enquire as to Kane’s whereabouts, she tells him the same.

CARAVAN PARK
Irene’s message leaves the gathered party to assume that Kirsty is alright, and it’s just Rhys, Jade and Max that have disappeared into thin air. Colleen is distressed – MAx always said the house was haunted, and now this has happened! Seb is still insisting that it’s not anything of the sort – Kane’s done something, and Dani is also convinced, despite Kit rubbishing the theory. On cue, Kane arrives at the house, and as Seb pounces on him, he wants to know where Kirsty is.

MINESHAFT
Max shares out the food from Eloise’s shrine, apologising for the mess that he has caused and tries to joke about the candles being like a birthday party.

BREAK

CARAVAN PARK
Kane continues to insist that he has no idea where they are, despite Scott threatening to hit him again. He’;s been with Tasha all day and he would never hurt Kirsty. Seb is still under the impression that Kirsty dumped him, and kane tries to set him straight, before heading for the door, with Dani pleading with him not to hurt her family to get revenge on her, and Colleen mumbling “evil” comments under her breath. Seb collars him before he reaches the door, and Alf and Flynn enter just in time to pull Kane, Seb and Scott apart. Kane is getting more wound up – if they’re out there then they should be searching for them, not wasting time. Alf and Flynn go to talk to Beth and Dani about the disappearances, whilst Scott and Seb push Kane back into the door to warn him that if the Sutherland’s don’t make it back safely, then they’ll kill him themselves.

MINESHAFT
Rhys and Kirsty discuss the search party, knowing that they won’t think to check the mine first, and Kirsty lets him know that Tasha knew about the shrine. Kirsty then apologises for all the trouble that she has caused – she loves him, and she never chose to fall in love with Kane. She doesn’t want to die without him knowing that she loves him, but Rhys promises her that they will NOT die.

SURF CLUB
Dani and Beth watch Kane, with Dani getting more and more worked up – “Why don’t they just make him say something?” as Alf organises the search, refusing to let Kane take part. Flynn arrives back with no news – they went all the way up to Stewarts Point, and Dani is distressed when Alf talks of continuing at “first light”. Flynn approaches Kane to tell him that if he DID flip, then he needs to tell them. Kane isn’t impressed that even Flynn thinks he has done something.

MINESHAFT
As morning arrives, the situation is looking no better.

BUSH
The search party sweeps through the bush, calling out to the family. A distance away in the other direction, we move towards the mineshaft.

MINESHAFT
Everyone is feeling the heat, and Jade coughs and splutters. The candles keep going out, and they realise that they’re running out of air…

BEACH HOUSE
Flynn tells Irene that there’s still no sign of the family, and the search has been widened. They discuss the possibility of Kane playing a part in it, and Flynn can’t be sure. As Tasha enters, Flynn tells Irene what he found out in the city – they have the name of tasha’s mother, but she is dead. Flynn breaks the news – Tasha’s birth mother is Angela Russell! Irene is stunned, but as she and Flynn watch Tasha, they know that there is no mistake…

MINESHAFT
Rhys attempt to clear the entrance to the mine, as Jade becomes short of breath, and Max is unconscious. Kirsty watches her father, and as the mine creaks they both realise that something is up. They move away too late, as more rocks fall, crushing Rhys…
