Duncan feels responsible for Ailsa’s injuries and it looks doubtful she will ever recover. Sam breaks up with Hayley. James has to face the fact that Chloe is never coming back to him.

Extended Summary

Hayley having found Mitch living underneath the Beach House arranges to meet him at the Diner. He tells her when they meet at the Diner that he is able to hear every word spoken in the house. Hayley is seen at the Diner with Mitch by Chloe and Will is not overjoyed at this thinking that his sister is cheating on Sam. Peta drags Hayley into one of the bedrooms to ask Hayley about her and Mitch. However Hayley is being very secretive because she knows Mitch can hear every word spoken.

The following day when Irene and the others have left Hayley makes Breakfast for Mitch. Sam who has come to walk Hayley to school interrupts them. Sam, without waiting to hear Hayley’s explanation leaves in an angry mood. Later on the beach he tells Hayley that they are now finished.

Alf and Duncan are given the help and comfort they need although everyone has doubts about Ailsa making a recovery. Duncan and Alf sit by Ailsa’s bed willing her to recover. Ailsa twitches and both Alf and Duncan race for James. He explains to them both that it could be a good sign but she has a serious condition and that she may not come round from her coma. Duncan doesn’t understand why his mum didn’t untie her seatbelt when the car went into the lake. Alf explains that she was very seriously injured and was unable to get herself out. Duncan feels very guilty and later crying he tells James that he when Ailsa asked him to undo her seat belt he didn’t.

Irene finds Peta temporary accommodation with Travis and Rebecca as they are the only crisis care foster parents left in Summer Bay. Rebecca and Chloe later talk about how sad it is that since Pippa left and now Travis and herself that the Bay is losing its custom of fostering.

Diana has to stay with James and when he tries to help her Diana verbally abuses him. She tells him that he was weak in the way he dealt with Chloe. Chloe mentions to Irene that she is considering placing a restraining order against Diana, Irene is not enthusiastic, as she feels sorry for Diana. Chloe wonders about leaving Summer Bay behind and thinks it may be for the best. Diana goes to visit Chloe at the Diner and is very upset she wants to see Olivia. Chloe is very angry and tells Diana never to come near Olivia again.
