Extended Summary

Carly is having a major whinge about taking time off work only for Adam to take that “old bag” out on the yacht without her. She goes upstairs, leaving Pippa and Steven to discuss the grim accounts. Lance hasn’t paid his site fees in three months. Pippa doesn’t want to demand immediate payment but Steven says they don’t have a choice.

Donald and Viv come home, having a heated discussion. Bobby tells Donald to stop giving Viv a hard time over going to the Midnight Swing with Emma. Donald says he caught Viv at the Diner with Emma but Viv says she was only telling Emma she can’t see her any more. Donald goes off and Viv tells Bobby about the mouthful Emma gave Donald. She thinks it was fantastic. Bobby tells Viv not to start getting ideas and reminds her that Donald cares about her.

In the Diner Kitchen Emma tells Ailsa she could have stuck up for her but Ailsa says Donald had every right to be angry with her, and so is she. This time Emma has gone too far and from now on Ailsa will be listening to Alf.

At the mobile home, Lance is writing a letter to the papers about being given the boot because he went to Jonah the goldfish’s funeral. Martin serves dinner but Lance doesn’t want to eat fish fingers! Martin says they don’t have money for anything else. Pippa arrives and awkwardly tells Lance about the site fees. Lance says he’ll go to the bank tomorrow. Pippa leaves and Martin asks how they’re going to get the money.

Alf comes in as Ailsa and Emma are closing up the Diner and Emma is throwing her weight around. Alf thinks it would be a good idea for him to teach Emma how to drive, which she thinks is unreal.

The next morning, Lance tells Martin he had a dream about a hamburger and his guts were rumbling. Martin is planning to gamble their emergency money out of the frog shaped money box. Lance wants to back a horse called Rumble Tum because of his dream but Martin has other ideas. He sends Lance out to place the bets.

Emma arrives late for work and Bobby warns her that if she makes a fool of Donald or gets Viv to lie again her life won’t be worth living. Ailsa tells Bobby to leave the lectures to her. Bobby says Emma backchats all the time and is a pain in the bum. Ailsa tells Bobby she reminds her of someone she used to know a couple of years ago!

Martin gets a phone call from Lance who still wants to put money on Rumble Tum but Martin tells him to stick to I am Certain.

Steven comes home for lunch and asks if Lance has been round. Pippa isn’t counting on getting the money from him and says they will manage until Tom gets home. Steven wants to leave school and get a job but Pippa insists he is going to university.

Emma yells at a customer and Bobby tells Ailsa that Emma is lazy and she has to keep asking her to do things. At the rate she’s going they won’t have any customers left. Emma serves a customer who complains it’s not what she ordered and Emma is rude again.

Martin paces nervously until Lance arrives home as he wants to make sure Lance put the money on I am Certain (why didn’t he just go himself?). Lance says yes, but it’s clear from his face that he’s lying.

Bobby confronts Emma for letting some customers leave without paying but Emma is sarcastic. Bobby pushes Emma against the back door and tells her if she gets one more bit of lip from her she’ll need a new set of teeth!

Donald is buying some milk from the store and apologises to Alf for taking things out on him over Emma. Alf accepts and says they have to stick together because he can’t work women out. He tried to get in Ailsa’s good books by teaching Emma to drive but she looked at him like he was trying to open a two-up school.

Lance and Martin listen to the radio as Rumble Tum beats I am Certain. Martin says they’ve just lost $1,500 and goes to his room. Lance is delighted. He sneaks into Summer Bay House later and tries to leave an envelope of money on the table but Steven catches him. Pippa tells Lance there’s over $1,000 in the envelope and she can’t keep it but Lance tells her to call it rent in advance. He asks them not to mention it to Martin and asks if he can borrow 80 cents for a Mars bar!

Emma is mouthing off at some school kids when Donald comes into the Diner and asks Emma how dare she speak to people like that. He thinks she’s a disgrace. He orders pecan pie with cream and ice cream. Emma says it’s his waistline and delivers the pie into Donald’s lap! Bobby tells Ailsa to make a choice… if Emma sets foot in this place again she’s out of here!
