Extended Summary

At the Stewart house, Ailsa tells Alf about Emma and Don’s altercation. Alf thinks Emma needs to be punished and points out Ailsa would have fired anyone else who behaved like that. Ailsa tells him about Bobby’s ultimatum and Alf tells her she’s got no alternative. Ailsa admits he’s right but is worried that Emma won’t be able to see her as a friend. At the caravan park house, Carly is on the phone to Stacey, who wants her to go for a movie, and says she can’t because Adam might be coming home. Pippa warns her not to neglect her friends for Adam. Celia arrives with some groceries that are nearly at their use by date and gives them to the Fletchers. She says she also has some for Don. After she’s gone, Carly notes she won’t find Don in a good mood.

Emma arrives home and is unrepentant over her treatment of Don, saying Ailsa’s better off without customers like him. Alf tells Ailsa to talk to her and goes to bed. Ailsa tries to tell Emma her decision but Emma cuts her off and heads off to her room. Next morning, Alf is astonished to find Ailsa didn’t say anything to Emma. He wonders if Emma might be trying to get attention. Emma comes in and realises Ailsa is firing her. She says she’s only there for a couple of months and is pleased she won’t have to spend any more time with them. Alf is angered by her attitude towards Ailsa but Emma storms out.

At the Diner, Bobby assures Ailsa she did the right thing. Ailsa points out Bobby used to be like Emma but Bobby points out Ailsa told her she was wrong. Carly takes Matt’s order to him and asks him if he’s heard from Adam. Matt hasn’t but it’s clear, although not to Carly, that he thinks Adam’s having a good time. In fact, Adam’s still on the island and, although he’s got a tent, his food has run out. He ties a knife to a long stick and tries to use it as a spear to catch fish but only succeeds in hitting his foot with the unsharpened end. Carly goes to see Matt at the surf club, where he’s cleaning trophies, and worries that Adam’s boat hasn’t returned and no-one’s heard from him. Matt makes another smart comment about how he isn’t surprised but covers by saying Carly’s the first person Adam would call.

Bobby goes to the store for supplies and she and Celia moan about Emma. Bobby thinks Ailsa’s letting Emma walk all over her. Alf disagrees, saying Ailsa knows what she’s doing and they should follow her lead and give Emma a chance. He goes home, where Emma is revising for her driving permit test, and helps by asking her questions, including a joke question that Roo told him once. He says he’s certain she’ll pass. Emma is still annoyed with Ailsa however, thinking she’s letting other people tell her what to do just like her mum did. She thinks Ailsa must be lying about going to jail. Alf says it’s true but it was a long time ago and Ailsa doesn’t like talking about it. When Emma still doesn’t believe him, he lets slip that Ailsa went to jail for murder.

At the Diner, Pippa reassures Ailsa that Duncan is with Lance and Christopher. Ailsa is worried about Emma and says she’s sick of having to defend her to everyone. Stacey arrives and Carly asks her about Adam. She’s worried since she thinks Adam would have told someone if his plans were changed and he might have got into trouble out at sea. Stacey says she’ll make some enquiries and goes to see Matt, who is doing push-ups at the surf club. He says he doesn’t know where Adam is but admits there is something Carly doesn’t know. Stacey insists he tell her.

In the Diner kitchen, Alf tells Ailsa and Bobby about what he said to Emma but says he didn’t give any details. Bobby thinks Ailsa should tell Emma the whole story so she doesn’t find out from someone else but Ailsa says the less she knows the better. Emma goes to the store and offers to help Celia out. She asks Celia how everyone felt about Ailsa being a murderer. Celia says she was worried at first but there were extenuating circumstances. Emma acts as though she knows what happened but doesn’t understand Celia’s long words, so Celia says that Emma’s grandfather was a violent man and Ailsa only killed him to protect her family, including Emma’s mother and grandmother. Emma seems impressed. Alf and Ailsa arrive home and Ailsa worries Emma might have run away. Emma turns up and is friendly towards them, even agreeing to go for a job at the fish and chip shop that Ailsa suggests. Alf and Ailsa are both bemused by the change in attitude.

Stacey takes Matt to the Diner and he admits to Bobby and Carly that Millicent isn’t exactly what they think she is: She’s 27 and pretty hot. Carly is annoyed to realise that Adam has been cruising around with some beautiful, rich young woman. On the island, Adam writes the word HELP in the sand on the beach. A seaplane appears in the sky and Adam waves his arms to attract attention but it flies over. Back at the Diner, Carly, Bobby, Stacey and Matt emerge from the kitchen with Carly waving a knife about and declaring she’ll kill the pig. Two policemen appear looking for Adam and Bobby says they haven’t seen him in days. The policeman says he’s wanted for questioning about smuggling.
