Extended Summary

Celia has had a brainwave – maybe she will buy the store herself! Ailsa tells Graham about it and how she’s quite happy for Celia to own it. Graham is unhappy that she is burning her bridges in Summer Bay and thinks she’d take Alf back if he apologised.

Brett turns up at the office and announces Roo has decided to give Martha to him to bring up. Frank goes round to ask Roo if it’s true. Roo tells him and Celia it is. Celia is appalled but Roo refuses to discuss it, saying they don’t understand. Later, Celia shows Roo a basket of toys that the family gave her when she was engaged, expecting her to have a baby, and says she wants Roo to have them. Roo doesn’t want to hear it. She tells Celia she’s made up her mind and that’s final.

At the Fletchers Brett asks Pippa for tips on minding a baby. Both Pippa and Colleen are bemused that Roo is giving Martha up and even Sally makes a few choice comments but Pippa is glad to help. She takes Christopher to Brett’s caravan and teaches him how to feed a baby.

Even though Celia has made alternative arrangements, Roo turns up at school and tells Donald she wants to take her exam. She laughs when she sees that one of the questions is about how Lady Macbeth was a victim of her own plotting and says that she’ll just need to write about herself.

Ailsa arrives at the store where Celia is waiting with an option agreement and Colleen to act as witness. Celia talks about all the changes she’s going to make, including evicting the young tenants and bringing in someone older and quieter. Ailsa hesitates for a moment and then signs.
