Levi and Eden’s younger sister arrived in town for Eden’s engagement party but first stopped by to see Levi and his new girlfriend Mackenzie. She brushed off the fact Levi had left his wife for Mackenzie and convinced the pair to accompany her to the party. She had been hoping to stay with them but, with a full house, Levi offered to put her up in a motel instead. However, she promptly disappeared with his wallet and the petty cash from the surf club. Although her family believed she was at college and staying in a share house, Levi learned she had left both. He cancelled his cards, prompting Abigail to turn up again. Noticing track marks on her arm, Levi quickly realised she was a drug addict. He tried to get her to seek help for the addiction but eventually settled for treating an infection and giving her money in return for a promise to go and stay with their mother.
She instead ended up at the home of her dealer, Dom, who gave her drugs on credit but then expected her to sleep with one of his customers to pay it off. Abigail rang Levi and he and Eden turned up to rescue her. Abigail decided to go cold turkey at a motel with them watching over her and Levi helping out with supplies from the hospital. Eden invited her to stay with her but Abigail balked on remembering Kirby and Remi lived there, since she blamed them for Eden never spending time with her when they were younger, so moved in with Levi and Mackenzie instead. She made an effort to get along with Mackenzie and housemate Mali and had a go at Cash for breaking off his engagement with Eden, which led to her agreeing to make a statement against Dom.
Abigail tried group counselling but quickly concluded it wasn’t for her. Mali gave her a job at the board shop but she forgot Kirby worked there. She taunted Remi after seeing him arguing with Bree, took long breaks and was caught arguing with Kirby by Mali, having brought up a time Eden missed her party because Kirby took her out drinking. She tried being polite to Kirby but lost her temper again when Kirby tried to clear the air. However, after Mali helped her realise it was unfair to put the blame on Kirby and Remi, she called a truce with them.
She was annoyed when Eden was assigned the job of driving her to her counsellor, Tim Russell, and walked away from the session but Eden annoyed her into going back and she admitted she started taking drugs because she felt lonely. Eden read the journal Abigail had been writing for Tim, and Abigail accused Eden of stopping her having a relationship with her father and Levi when the family split up. Eden decided she would accompany Abigail to her next counselling session but Abigail responded by cancelling it. Eden brought Tim to her and he suggested a family session at the farm. Abigail praised Levi but accused Eden of abandoning her, prompting Levi to remind her that Eden stayed while he left with their father.
Abigail organised a family meal and gave Eden a letter in which she talked about how much she meant to her. She was upset when Tim dropped her as a client, saying he had too many people on his books. She refused to see another counsellor, feeling disenchanted with everything Tim had told her, and threatened to leave when Levi and Mackenzie put pressure on her. Tim talked her into giving counselling another go. She began spending time with Theo and turned to him for comfort when she found out Tim had dropped her because he was dating Eden, falling out with them both. She arranged a date with Theo but he found out about her history and called it off, explaining his last girlfriend got him hooked on drugs. She went looking for Levi at the hospital and impulsively tried to break into a drugs trolley. She was found by Dana, who gave her the number of a crisis hotline.
Cash told her that Tim had previously had a relationship with a client, Nerida Mullins, and encouraged her to make a complaint against him. Abigail agreed to meet with Nerida and, after hearing her story, agreed they should both submit complaints, leading to Tim being suspended. Eden told her Nerida was making it up and Abigail spoke to Nerida again. Nerida was unable to give details of the supposed relationship but rambled about how Tim still loved her and needed to be made to pay for hurting her. She told Cash her suspicions and then withdrew her own complaint.
Wanting to thank Mali for his faith in her, she did all the preparation for the surfing gala he and Kirby had organised, not realising they had cancelled it after the promotional posters had arrived with Kirby’s appearance altered. Mali was grateful for her work anyway and nearly kissed her but pulled back. When they got home, they kissed for real.
She and Mali were left in limbo for a short while after sleeping together. On hearing Tim was in hospital and Cash had been accused of attacking him, she suspected Nerida and contacted her. When they met up, she found Nerida thought Tim was dead. Nerida suggested they give each other alibis. Abigail went to Rose and agreed to wear a wire to try and get evidence, despite telling Mali she wouldn’t. However, Nerida failed to say anything incriminating. She went to see Eden at the hospital where she was watching over Tim and they cleared the air. She found Nerida at the hospital where Nerida threatened her. She told first Cash and then Rose and Detective Townsend.
She was reluctant to tell Levi about seeing Mali but he caught them together. Mali assured her he wasn’t going to break up with her and was instead going to move out to give them some space. Worried Nerida would come after her when Cash was cleared, she announced she was moving in with Mali. Mali realised she was hoping to hide from Nerida and agreed temporarily. However, Nerida managed to knock out Mali and kidnap both her and Eden anyway. Abigail tried to convince her they were no threat to her since Tim had already finished with Eden, helping to keep her calm until they were rescued. She prompted Levi to divorce Imogen.
With Eden running Salt on her own with Mackenzie away and Xander not coming back, Abigail got time off from Mali to help out, revealing she did waitressing at college and had an RSA. Mali cancelled a date, saying he had to help a friend, only for her to see him hugging Rose. She worried he was cheating on her but he explained he was supporting her over Xander’s departure. When Rose asked to meet with him again, Abigail told him to go but was disappointed when he actually did. She spoke to Rose about Mali; Rose encouraged the relationship but admitted Mali kept things from her and his half-truth about spending time with her was typical. She tried to get Mali to move back in but he convinced her to leave it. She then hung around at the board shop keeping an eye on him until Mackenzie decided to give her a permanent job at Salt.
Abigail struggled to spend time with Mali who ended up moving back in with her while Levi and Mackenzie were out of town. However, she missed dinner the first night he was there. She encouraged him to say goodbye to Rose and when Levi and Mackenzie returned it was agreed Mali should move back in permanently. Mali invited her to be his date to Tane and Harper’s wedding but in the end, the wedding didn’t happen. Abigail was thrown when Mali told her he loved her, feeling that people who loved each other split up, but eventually admitted she loved him too. She played peacemaker when Mali fell out with Kirby. With neither of them working with him anymore, she tried to find a replacement but respected his decision to scale the business back and run the board shop on his own.
She attended Cash’s proposal at Gary’s farm but was concerned when her mother Debra wanted to see her life in Summer Bay, ringing Mali to tell him to stay out of town. Instead, Mali met with Debra and accidentally let slip about Abigail’s drug taking, prompting Abigail to decide to go away with Debra for a bit. The experience was enough to have Debra and Jimmy put on a united front with her. She packed her bags, intending to move in with Debra without telling anyone but was caught by Mali and accepted she was stronger in Summer Bay. She enthusiastically celebrated her birthday where Levi and Mackenzie bought her a car but was confused when she couldn’t find a present from Mali. He told her it was arriving the next day, taking her out to dinner instead. Abigail searched the board shop and found a painting Mali had done for her. When Mali instead tried to give her an expensive bracelet, she gently told him she’d rather have the original gift.
Eden asked her to be maid of honour but Abigail then received backdated birthday presents from Jimmy to cover the time they’d spent apart, which Eden considered a bribe. Abigail argued that Eden was the only person in the family who hadn’t forgiven him, challenging her to invite him to the wedding. She later invited herself along on Eden’s trip to see Debra and was pleased when Eden agreed to invite Jimmy, only for Levi to disagree. She got to spend time with Jimmy when he came to town in an attempt to build bridges with Eden.
