Nina Bailey

Nina was first seen at a teens’ disco. John noticed her eyeing up Jett and convinced him to ask her to dance. A few weeks later, she invited him to join her and some friends for a game of cricket. By a couple of months later, she and Jett were sneaking off to his place during school hours. John saw them kissing outside and she texted Jett saying she wanted to be his girlfriend. John arranged for them to have dinner together at Angelo’s but Jett broke up with her, feeling guilty for being happy with her after Gina died. She attended a yoga class that Jett was helping out with and, with a bit of pushing from Indi, the pair reunited.

When VJ returned to town, Jett introduced him and Nina to each other. However, it became clear they’d been mortal enemies since primary school, when Nina had claimed a Pokemon card that the teacher had found. VJ had insisted it was his and, although the teacher took Nina’s side, he had turned everyone against her. Jett tried to make peace between the pair but VJ insisted he choose so Jett chose Nina, who went on a trip to the UK for the next few weeks

However, when Jett’s iPod and sunglasses and a console game went missing after Nina had been at the house, Jett accused her, leaving her upset and causing her to break up with him. Jett uncovered the truth: VJ had lost his card between the pages of an old book he’d used it as a bookmark in, and John had put the missing items up for sale on eBay thinking Jett didn’t use them anymore. Nina accepted VJ’s apology but couldn’t forgive Jett for accusing her. They hit a further obstacle a few weeks later when Nina told Sally she’d seen Jett and Pippa wagging school together, but Jett eventually won Nina over by serenading her with help from Casey and Kyle.

However, two months later, Nina abruptly broke up with Jett. She explained that, following the school merger with Mangrove River, her parents were sending her away to boarding school. She ran away a couple of months later and Jett hid her in the house overnight but John discovered her the next morning. He rang her parents and agreed to drive her back to the school next day. Instead, Jett and Nina ran off, spending a few days hiding around town and in a shed at the Walkers’ farm before being discovered by Spencer. John took her back to her parents.

The following year, Nina surprised Jett with a visit, having come back to town for her grandmother’s birthday. They were invited to a meal at the Stewart house, with Marilyn arranging a private meal for them on the patio, and had a picnic together next day. She was allowed to return a couple of months later as Jett’s guest at John and Marilyn’s wedding, sitting with John’s daughter Shandi while Jett performed his best man’s duties and dancing with him at the reception. Jett would eventually mention he and Nina had broken up around the time he started seeing Skye.
