Home and Away Spoilers – Mali furious with John after dramatic beach rescue
Next week on Home and Away in the UK, the fallout from Summer Bay’s crime wave continues to hit the community, as a beach emergency exposes a worrying problem at the surf club.
Recent weeks have seen the bay targeted by a run of thefts, with tradies’ tools stolen from vehicles before the surf club was also broken into.
The club was left counting the cost after its new backup generator and some power tools were taken, whilst Justin’s (James Stewart) van was later stolen as the thieves’ crime spree escalated.
Although the generator was covered by insurance, John (Shane Withington) confirmed that the surf club would still have to pay a hefty excess, leaving its already-stretched funds under even more pressure.
Next week, Mali (Kyle Shilling) discovers just how serious the situation has become when he’s running a surf class on the beach.
Mali is in the middle of teaching his students when a woman named Mabel gets into trouble in the water and calls out for help.
As Mali looks around for assistance, he’s alarmed to realise that there’s no lifeguards on duty.
With no time to waste, Mali tells his students to raise the alarm as he races into the water himself.
He manages to get Mabel back to shore, where Amelia (Nicole da Silva) rushes over to help and takes charge whilst they wait for an ambulance.
But as Mabel begins to recover, Mali wonders how this could’ve happened.
Determined to find out, he heads straight for John.
John’s been in Yabbie Creek trying to drum up sponsorship for the club, and he’s horrified when Mali catches up with him and tells him about the incident.
Mali makes it clear how badly things could have ended—not only was there no-one watching the water, but the flags weren’t even out.
John explains that his roster fell apart when the only available lifesaver called in sick.
As Mali demands to know why someone else wasn’t called in, John tells him that Dana (Ally Harris) has a hospital shift, and that the club is short on volunteers in general—many of its usual lifesavers having either moved on or become unavailable through work.
When Mali asks why John can’t recruit more volunteers, John explains that it isn’t that simple. To rebuild the roster, he needs new recruits trained up, but putting on Bronze Medallion courses comes at a cost.
That’s a problem whilst the surf club is still low on funds because of the insurance excess on the stolen generator.
Mali’s sympathetic, but he’s still shaken by how close Mabel came to disaster.
Later, Mali offers to help John with the surf club business in any way he can, but John knows there’s only one real answer—they need to improve the club’s finances so he can train up more volunteers.
John asks Mali to spread the word among his surf students, as he’ll need extra recruits once he finally finds the funds to run the courses.
But with the surf club still feeling the financial impact of the crime spree, can John find a way to raise funds before someone else gets hurt?
Elsewhere in Summer Bay, the same crime wave continues to have life-changing consequences for Richie (Rocco Forrester-Sach), as his career hangs in the balance.
After Justin’s stolen van was traced to a campsite, Richie joined David (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) at the scene. But when the suspect became aggressive, Richie panicked and fired his gun, accidentally shooting David as his boss tried to intervene.
David survived after being rushed to hospital, but Richie was suspended whilst the conduct commission decided whether he had any future in the force.
Next week, Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) receives the commission’s decision and calls Richie into the station.
Richie admits he hadn’t expected a decision so soon, but he tries to steel himself for whatever comes next.
Cash doesn’t soften the blow—Richie’s employment with the police has been terminated.
Before Richie can fully process that, Cash has to deliver the rest of the verdict. He won’t be allowed to reapply to the force, and his gun licence has been revoked with immediate effect.
Richie asks whether he can appeal, but he can tell from Cash’s reaction that it may not be the right move. Cash is honest with him, admitting that he doesn’t think the police force is a good fit for him.
Richie’s left devastated.
Abigail (Hailey Pinto) later finds Richie and tries to help him focus on what comes next.
Richie admits that he has no other plan, as becoming a police officer was the only future he’d ever imagined for himself.
Abby tries to stop him sinking completely into the worst-case scenario. The commission accepted that he hadn’t acted with criminal negligence, and he hasn’t been charged over the shooting.
Richie can see the logic, he has his freedom and a roof over his head, but it doesn’t bring him much comfort.
He’s lost the only career he ever wanted—and he can’t forget that Jo (Maddison Brown) and Lacey (Sophea Pennington) nearly lost their father because of him.
Abby gently reminds him that she knows what it’s like to make mistakes and have to start again, and she took things one day at a time.
As they continue talking, Richie apologises for the way he ended their relationship before the hearing, admitting that he was upset and broken at the time.
Abby forgives him, and with Richie potentially sticking around after all, she suggests that they could give their relationship another go.
Richie reluctantly turns her down. He insists that he’s not good for anyone right now and doesn’t want to drag Abby down with him.
As Richie walks away, Abby is left heartbroken all over again, admitting to Mali that being dumped twice by the same guy has to be some sort of record.
Can Richie find a new way forward after losing his dream career—and has he pushed Abby away for good?
