Current characters Ricky (Bonnie Sveen), Kyle (Nic Westaway), Nate (Kyle Pryor), Ash (George Mason), Phoebe (Isabella Giovinazzo), Irene (Lynne McGranger) and Kat (Pia Miller) will also feature in the episode—which will be streamed exclusively on Presto, and not aired on the Seven network.

A duration has not yet been announced, but the episode has been confirmed to be over an hour long, and will be produced for Presto by Seven Productions in Ultra HD 4K.

The episode will be made available to subscribers of Presto’s TV & Entertainment packages following the 2015 season finale.

Seven’s CEO Tim Worner told News Corp:

“Home and Away is one of Australian television’s most loved, well known and watched franchises that has been running continuously for 28 years since 1988. Home and Away: An Eye For An Eye, is the next exciting moment in the history of Home and Away, and I am confident that it will be warmly embraced by the show’s massive fan base while exposing Home and Away to a potential new audience through Presto.

Home and Away: An Eye For An Eye has been specifically crafted to retain viewer excitement across the summer months of the series but it will also appeal to new audiences as well.”

Shaun James, interim chief executive of Presto added “It really is the perfect vehicle with amazing heritage and provides fantastic cross promotional opportunities with our shareholder partner Seven to leverage one of the strongest brands on Australian television. Presto will be the only place for Australian audiences to be able to see Home and Away: An Eye For An Eye and it will be an on demand event not to be missed.”

It’s not the first time that special non-broadcast episodes have been produced. In the early 2000’s two Home and Away spin-off DVDs were released which each featured an exclusive episode never seen on TV.

The first, Secrets and the City, focussed on Dani Sutherland‘s search for her father Rhys after he ran off to the city during the breakdown of his marriage. The second, Hearts Divided, concentrated on Kirsty Sutherland‘s disastrous journey to visit Kane Phillips in a city hospital after he was run down by Dani.

More recently, the Barrett Brothers were introduced to Summer Bay with five short webisodes airing exclusively on the official Home and Away website.
