Episode 26 - Confessions

Melissa and Nina walk Dina into the living room to talk about what has just happened to her.

Melissa: What happened Dina?

*Dina wipes away her tears*

Dina: I was on my way home from shopping when these two men wanted directions to go to the hospital. As I turned my back, one of them covered my mouth while the other tried to drag me into the car. I tried to fight back but I couldn't due to my pregnancy. Then Leon arrives on his bike and he punched the one that tried to drag me into the car. I managed to bite the hand of the other. If Leon didn't save my life, I don't know what would've happened. *starts to sob*

*Melissa hugs Dina*

Nina: Did you get the registration plate and what kind of car it was?

Dina: It was a blue Ford Falcon. The vehicle plate was TEL-402.

Nina: I'm calling the police.

Dina: NINA!!! NO!!!!

Nina: Dina! Two men tried to abduct you tonight! You have to report it to the police!

Dina: All right. *goes over to the phone and rings Civic Police Station* Hello. My name is Dina Caliente and I would like to report an incident. I was nearly kidnapped by two men driving a blue Ford Falcon with the registration plate TEL-402. I will give you my written statement in the morning. Thank you. *hangs up the phone before wiping away her tears*

The next day (Thursday), Hayley's class are in English when Leon walks into the classroom. He looks scared.

Miss Owens: Come inside Leon. You haven't missed much.

*Leon sits with Hayley and Ben*

Hayley: You look terrible Leon. Are you okay?

Leon: Yeah. I'm fine. *gets out his English book and starts to write what Miss Owens has on the board*

Ben: Are you sick?

Leon: I said I'm fine.

Ben: I was just asking.

Leon: Sorry. I couldn't sleep at all last night.

Hayley: Why?

Leon: I don't know. I just don't know.

Hayley: You know that your friends will be here if you want to talk to them.

Leon: I know. *smiles weakly*

Meanwhile, Alison and her friends are having their usual conversations in class.

Melissa: Dina could not get any sleep last night. She just spent the whole time crying.

Alison: Who can blame her though?

Kat: Did she report it to the police?

Melissa: Yes, she did.

Sylvia: I hope they catch the bastards! Did they hurt her?

Melissa: No. They only tried to drag her into the car.

Kat: I'm dreading tonight's 6pm news.

Alison: Me too. By the way, I was thinking that we never talk to any of the male students here.

Sylvia: Ali has a good point. We don't never socialise with the male students. Just the females.

Kat: That's because they're into cars, sport and S-E-X!

Alison: Why don't we talk to some male students at lunch. Because we have to do our first assignment at recess.

Melissa: That's a good idea.

Lolly: Are we doing our work girls?

Melissa: Yes we are Lolly.

Lolly: I hope so. *smiles*

*the girls continue to work.

At lunchtime, Alison and her friends try and socialise with a group of male students.

Alison: Hi fellas.

*Tevita Usaia, Jordan Graham, Greg Everett and Michael Nettelship look at Alison and her friends*

Tevita: Hey.

Michael: Hello ladies.

Alison: May we sit here?

Greg: Sure.

*Alison, Melissa, Sylvia and Kat sit with Tevita, Jordan, Greg and Michael*

Kat: So, what are you studying?

Melissa: Tevita and Jordan are in our class Kat.

Jordan: That's right.

Greg: I'm doing a hospitality course.

Sylvia: Which one?

Greg: Commercial cookery.

Michael: And I'm studying to be an auto mechanic.

Kat: You have the body for it.

Alison: Kat! *to Michael* She's kidding.

Michael: Right.

Kat: I was just making statement Alison. *smiles*

Alison: We should do this more often.

Jordan: You're right. We should.

Meanwhile, Leon is in the school library when Hayley approaches him.

Hayley: Leon! What is going on? You have been acting strange all day.

Leon: No I haven't.

Hayley: You refused to play football with the boys. You don't normally do that.

Leon: Maybe I was sick and tired of playing. Did that ever cross your mind?

*Hayley looks at him bewildered*

Leon: I'm sorry. Something is bugging me. *they sit down at a desk* Last night, I witnessed an attempted kidnapping.

Hayley: Oh my god! What happened?

Leon: Dina Caliente was approached by these two men who tried to kidnap her. I punched one of them in the face before she bit the other's hand. When I got home, I just had too many what ifs in my head and couldn't get to sleep. I don't normally talk about my feelings but that incident deeply hurt me because I consider Dina and her sister as friends. *Leon looks like he is about to cry*

Hayley: I'm so sorry Leon. I never knew you were so upset and hurt about it.

Leon: At least I saved her.

*Hayley and Leon then embrace*

When TAFE has finished, Sylvia gets ready for her first day at Harleys. Amy works there too.

Sylvia: It feels so good to have a job doesn't it Amy?

Amy: Yeah. It does.

Sylvia: Why weren't you at TAFE today?

Amy: I chucked a sickie.

Sylvia: But you're not sick are you?

Amy: I'm not. It's just that I feel really bad about what happened to Dina.

Sylvia: It's not your fault Amy.

Amy: I should've just walked home with her.

Sylvia: You need to stop blaming yourself.

*Nina walks into the diner*

Nina: Hi ladies. A strawberry milkshake please.

Sylvia: Coming right up.

Amy: How's Dina?

Nina: *shakes her head* Not good. She's scared to leave the house.

Amy: I just feel so bad Nina.

Nina: It's not your fault. *gives Amy a hug*

Amy: I hope those pricks get what coming to them.

Sylvia: I hope so too. *to Nina* Here's your milkshake.

Nina: Thanks Sylvia. *sits at a table*

Sylvia: See Amy. It's not your fault.

Amy: I know. I feel so much better now.

*Sylvia and Amy laugh*

That evening, Alison is over at Melissa's house watching the news and there is a report on Dina's attempted kidnapping.

Ann Sanders (on TV): Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a 21 year-old woman in Civic last night. Two men tried to pull the woman into the car but they were chased off by a teenage boy who came to the woman's aid.

*Fifteen minutes later, Ann presents some breaking news about Dina's kidnapping*

Ann Sanders (on TV): To some breaking news now and police have charged two men over the attempted kidnapping of 21 year-old hairdresser Dina Caliente. Police arrested them at a petrol station in Liverpool a short time ago. One of the men is also accused of raping 28 year-old mother of two Trish Hampton two years ago. Alison: Good riddance!

Episode 27 - Learning the Truth

On Friday, Alison arrives home from TAFE to find a letter on the kitchen table. It’s from Rachael.

To Alison,

Sorry I haven't replied to your mail. I've been really busy seeing all the relatives and helping out at my mother's place. How is everyone back in the city? Send them my love. I might be coming back in a month or two.

From your friend

Rachael Manase

XXX OOO

*Alison decides to write a letter back to Rachael*

Dear Rachael,

I quite understand why you haven’t replied to my last mail. All of those chores you do in Samoa must tire you out. Everyone says hello and to tell you that they are doing just fine. I’m really looking forward to your return so we can all hang out again.

From your friend

Alison Patterson

XXX OOO

*Alison then proceeds to shove the letter into the public letterbox before walking back inside the house*

The next morning, Alison and Jenny go to the hospital and visit Brock. He seems to be looking better but his head is still bandaged.

Jenny: Good morning precious! *gives Brock a kiss*

Brock: Good morning!

Alison: You starting to make a full recovery.

Brock: Yes I am. The doctor said I could be out by Tuesday.

Jenny: That’s wonderful. Has the foul temptress come back?

Brock: Who? Heather? No way.

Jenny: As long as she keeps out of our way, we’ll be happy.

Alison: The devious slag got what she deserved. I’m just glad that you fell for my favourite cousin.

Brock: Jenny is the most caring person I have ever come across *holds Jenny’s hand*

Alison: And what about me?

Brock: You’re pretty much the same.

*Alison and Jenny look at each other and laugh*

Jenny: Did you have your breakfast?

Brock: Yes I did. I had Sultana Bran.

Jenny: That’s good.

Brock: Pity they don’t do bacon and eggs. *winks at Jenny*

Jenny: I know. *winks back*

Alison: I’ll leave you two in privacy. I’ll be at the hospital café if you need me.

*Alison walks out of the room*

Jenny: I love you.

Brock I love you as well. *they kiss*

Later that morning, Hayley decides to cheer Leon up by taking him and some of their friends ice-skating

Hayley: C’mon. We’ll have fun.

Leon: I’m not too sure.

Hayley: You have been down in the dumps ever since you saved Dina from being abducted.

Leon: Who’s coming?

Hayley: I invited Riggot, Seru, Catherine, Madison, Alex, Tyson, Sumara and Alexis.

Leon: Now you’re talking. *smiles*

Hayley: Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

At the ice-skating rink, Hayley and Leon’s friends start skating on the ice.

Riggot: This is fantastic.

Sumara: It’s like driving a car.

Alex: I’m actually enjoying myself. If only Jess came.

Madison: *to Hayley* Alex’s sister Jessica is an avid skater.

Hayley: I should’ve invited her. But it doesn’t matter.

Tyson: Does it hurt when you fall down?

Alexis: Not really. I’ve fallen over heaps of times. I think I’m about now.

*Alexis trips over and bumps into Leon causing him to fall over as well*

Alexis: Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry Leon.

Leon: That’s all right.

*Hayley and Riggot help both Alexis and Leon up*

Riggot: Where’s Seru and Catherine?

Madison: They’re over here.

*Catherine and Seru are kissing next to the stuffed animal machine*

Riggot: Hey lovebirds! Are you skating or what?

Seru: We’ll be right there!

Catherine: Thanks for ruining our private moment Riggot! *winks at him*

Riggot: You’re welcome.

*As the Year 8 students continue to skate, Kat Benson puts on her skates and goes over to the ice rink*

Kat: Hey guys!

Hayley: Hello Kat. How are you?

Kat: I’m great. I just decided to take a break from studying and come out on the ice field. I’m glad that we have two weeks off. We can spend the time with our friends and family.

Sumara: Do you want to skate with us Kat?

Kat: I will if you want me to.

*Kat joins Hayley and Leon’s friends and they start to skate again*

That afternoon, Dina is washing the dishes into the kitchen when there is a knock at the door. She opens it to find a woman standing there.

Dina: Yes?

Trish: Are you Dina Caliente?

Dina: Yes I am. Who are you?

Trish: I’m Trish Hampton. I saw the news last night and I wanted to have a chance to talk to you. Your sister gave this address.

Dina: I’m sorry. I was just doing the dishes. Please come in.

*Trish walks inside the house*

Dina: What did you want to talk about Trish?

Trish: I wanted to talk to you about last night’s news report over your attempted kidnapping.

Dina: Go ahead. *sits down on the armchair in the living room*

Trish: *sits down on the sofa* One of the men that tried to kidnap you raped me two years ago.

Dina: I heard.

Trish: It’s not easy being a single mother raising two kids. Do you get what I’m saying?

Dina: Yes I do. I’m expecting a baby myself in a few months.

Trish: Did any of the men hurt you in any way?

Dina: No. They only covered my mouth to stop me from screaming out for help.

Trish: I went to bed one night and I woke up to this loud thud. I went to investigate and the man who tried to abduct you grabbed me by the throat and then told me to be quiet otherwise I would be killed.

*Dina looks shocked*

Trish: Anyway, the man started pull at my nightie and that’s when he raped me.

Dina: I’m so sorry that you have to live with that forever Trish.

Trish: The attack lasted twenty minutes before he practically jumped out of my bedroom window. I was crying like a baby all night.

Dina: Where were the kids?

Trish: They were over at their friend’s house for the night. Are going to testify at their trial?

Dina: You bet I am.

Episode 28 - Doing the Right Thing

The next day (Sunday), Alison decides to go to Darling Harbour while Jenny visits Brock at the hospital. While she is drinking her cappuccino from Gloria Jean's, Amanda Greenacre (an old acquaintance from Summer Bay) approaches her.

Amanda: Hello stranger.

*Alison looks up at Amanda*

Alison: Amanda Greenacre! How have you been? *gives Amanda a hug*

Amanda: Great. I just bought a flat over at Blakes Inlet.

Alison: If I knew where you lived I could've visited you when I was staying with the family.

Amanda: I hear you're doing a TAFE course now. I do a TAFE course myself.

Alison: What course are you doing?

Amanda: I'm doing a make-up and retail cosmetic services course. How about you?

Alison: I'm doing my HSC.

Amanda: Didn't you get it last year?

Alison: I did but I got really low marks and wanted to have another crack at it.

Amanda: That's good.

Alison: Listen. I just want to say I'm sorry for giving you a hard time back in high school.

Amanda: That's okay. I don't even remember some of the things you did.

Alison: But I do. Remember when we had a fight in English?

*Flashback to when Alison and Amanda are having a fight during English*

Students: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

*Several teachers come and break up the fight*

Mr Bertram: REPORT TO MY OFFICE NOW LADIES!!!!!!

*end of flashback*

Amanda: But that's all in the past now. I'm happy to be friends with you.

Alison: That's great.

Amanda: I'll call you sometime.

Alison: It was lovely seeing you again.

Amanda: You too. *walks away*

*Alison goes back to finish her cappuccino*

At Melissa's house, there is a loud knock at the door. Melissa opens it to find her mother standing there.

Mrs Powell: DAHLING!!!!

Melissa: Mum! What are you doing here?

Mrs Powell: I've decided to come spend some time with you.

Melissa: That's very nice.

*Mrs Powell goes inside the house while Dina and Nina come from downstairs*

Nina: Hello. Who are you?

Mrs Powell: Essie Powell. And you are?

Nina: Nina Caliente. And this is my sister Dina.

Dina: Hi.

Mrs Powell: You look fat my dear.

Dina: I'm PREGNANT!

Mrs Powell: So you are. *turns to Nina* That lipstick is far too bright and you should only wear it going out.

Nina: I wear it all the time. This isn't the 1950's you know.

Melissa: Mum why don't you go into the living room while I talk to Dina and Nina.

Mrs Powell: All right. *walks into the living room*

Melissa: *to Dina and Nina* Why are you being so rude?

Dina: That woman just called me fat.

Melissa: THAT WOMAN happens to be my mother.

Nina: She was being a pure and utter snob if you ask me.

Melissa: That's your opinion. But I won't have you be rude to my mother.

*Dina just simply storms off*

Melissa: DINA!!!!

Nina: Nice one Mel! *goes after Dina*

*Melissa lets out a heavy sigh*

Later on, Melissa talks to her mother about her behaviour towards Dina and Nina.

Melissa: That behaviour is not on Mum. You just don't go and ask questions that offend people OR criticise them. Do you understand?

Mrs Powell: Yes I do.

Melissa: Good. Why don't we go and have some fruit salad.

Mrs Powell: I would like that.

Over at Leon's house, Leon's father is in Leon's bedroom talking to him.

Mr Longbottom: Are you okay son? You haven't been yourself and I'm worried something's not right.

Leon: You know how Dina nearly got kidnapped? I saved her.

Mr Longbottom: What do you mean you saved her?

Leon: I was riding my bike when I saw the men try and drag Dina into the car and I punched one of them in the face.

*Mr Longbottom looks shocked*

Mr Longbottom: YOU DID WHAT?!?

Leon: I punched one of the men in the face.

Mr Longbottom: I normally would give you a lecture about violence but what you did to save that woman was great heroism and I'm really impressed.

Leon: Thanks Dad. *gives his father a hug*

Mr Longbottom: When's the trial?

Leon: Tomorrow morning at eleven.

Mr Longbottom: Are you going to testify?

Leon: Yes. I consider Dina as one of my friend and I want to testify on her behalf.
