'Bachelor of the Year' contenders emerge

April 14, 2009, 4:11 pm

Channel V presenter Danny Clayton, singer Axle Whitehead and Carlton AFL player Chris Johnson have emerged as frontrunners for the Cleo Bachelor of the Year title.

They are among a small group who are hauling in the most votes for the competition, which will be announced on April 22, a Cleo spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Other popular contenders are Swans player Matthew Laidlaw, Sneaky Sound System's Daimon Downey, Home and Away actor Todd Lasance, Bondi Rescue's Tom Bunting, and Make Me A Supermodel winner Rhys Uhlich.

Lesser known entrant Blake Pattendon, a PE teacher/Queensland radio announcer, is also a shot to take the honour from reigning champion, TV presenter Jason Dundas.

Cleo editor in chief Sarah Oakes said while there were some leading bachelors among the 50 finalists it could still be anybody's title.

"It will be a tough decision," Oakes said.

The award will be decided from a combination of votes from the public as well as a panel of celebrity judges including Toni Pearen, Sami Lukis and Lyndsey Rodrigues.

Last votes are taken on April 19.
