Bree lives in denial. Dana gets a downgrade. Tension brews between Cash and Rose.
Extended Summary
Bree is in an upbeat mood after a surf and tells Xander and Dana she’s on holiday. Dana asks about the tribunal and Bree says it’s all over and jovially suggests Dana will be pleased not to have to work with her for a while. She sees Remi coming and rushes off in the opposite direction. Dana heads to the surf club and runs into Harper. Dana is looking forward to joining Harper for her scan and suggests Tane is excited. Harper says she’s not sure Tane remembers; she was going to mention it yesterday but he’s busy with Perri. Dana urges her to tell him, saying they can all drive in together.
Cash is putting on his uniform before finally letting Perri get in the bathroom. Harper arrives and Tane tries to offer her the toast he just offered Cash but she declines and Cash gets it. Tane tells Harper that Perri has decided to deal with his father. Cash hurries off and Perri emerges. Tane asks Harper to help them sort out the funeral arrangements. At the surf club, Dana stops Remi and asks about what happened between him and Bree before. Remi recalls Dana saw the problem first and ask what she thinks is happening. Dana says she can’t give him a diagnosis.
Xander, Rose and Bree are eating at the Diner. Rose has to head off to work and comments on Bree being a lady of leisure. Bree suggests she and Xander go jet skiing and Xander wonders if she wouldn’t rather go with Remi. Bree notices her cutlery is askew and resets it. She says she and Remi are taking some space and Remi needs to stop worrying about her. Xander says she can’t blame him for caring. Meanwhile, Rose arrives at work and is bemused when Cash comes out of the back room and sits at the desk. He explains he works there now.
Perri is pondering whether to go for burial or cremation. Harper asks what happened with his mother. Perri says they didn’t have a funeral there and took her back to New Zealand, He decides on cremation. Tane recalls a funeral director from his brother and looks in his phone for the details. Harper walks away to phone Dana. Tane goes to look for the funeral director’s business card. Harper tells Dana that Tane’s busy and it will just be the two of them. She then realises Tane has overheard.
Soon after, Harper and Tane are sat in a car outside the surf club. Tane assures Harper he’s keen to be involved. Xander and Dana approach with Xander trying to get Dana to say whether she wants a niece or a nephew. Harper comes over and Dana is pleased that Tane’s there, until Harper says that she’s decided she wants it to just be her and Tane at the scan. Dana accepts it but is disappointed.
Cash explains that the whole of Mangrove River Police Station has been shut down: The River Boys’ attacks got out of control and the staff have been absorbed into other stations. Devlin has gone to Reefton Lakes and he’s back there for now. Rose awkwardly points out it’s her desk now and Cash cheerily moves to another one. Perri arrives for his check-in. Rose says she’ll be with him in a minute and is put out when Cash takes over.
At the Lyrik house, Remi looks up “obsessed, fixated, paranoid” on a laptop. The main result is for paranoid psychosis. Bree arrives and he closes the laptop. She asks if they can put what’s happened behind them. She looks at the laptop and asks if he’s trying to diagnose her. Remi points out she assumed it’s about her and says that she’d understand it better than him.
Cash brings Rose a sandwich. He tries to question her about the Carl Hayes murder case. Rose says the case is closed and it’s not his jurisdiction. Cash protests that it happened in his back yard and she’s not his boss since they’re equal rank. Rose still refuses to talk to him about it so he says he’ll look it up himself.
Bree looks at the info and admits some of it does sound like her: The checking and rechecking and constant doubts. Remi says at least now they know and she can get a proper diagnosis. Bree refuses however, saying no-one wants a doctor who isn’t well and they wouldn’t trust her. She says she’ll do the work but they have to keep it between them.
Hsving looked over the file, Cash says he has some questions, reminding Rose she served an AVO against Carl. She confirms he was antagonistic when they served it. Cash wonders why she didn’t place Carl under surveillance, especially after the threatening note. Rose insists they did all they legally could to protect Perri.
Remi and Bree are at Salt. Bree says she understands Remi was just looking out for her. Remi goes to the bar where Dana is fretting about not having heard from Harper. While Remi orders food, Bree seems to be rearranging the table. Dana says the scan must be over now and Xander tries to calm her. Meanwhile, Tane and Harper arrive back at the Newman house with an envelope. Harper says they could give it to Dana for the gender reveal party or leave it sealed for the day. Tane can tell she wants to open it. Harper asks that they keep it to themselves before showing him the paper that shows they’re having a boy.
Rose protests that Perri ran before they could get a statement. Cash retorts that he was a scared kid and it doesn’t justify a murder charge. Rose says it’s up to the DPP and Cash says she could have recommended downgrading to manslaughter. Rose thinks he’s criticising her handling of the case and says he’s got a conflict of interests, reminding him of what he said about it happening in his back yard.
Harper meets with Dana on the Salt balcony, assuring her that nothing’s wrong. She says the baby’s healthy but she and Tane are keeping the sex to themselves. Dana protests but Harper walks away. Xander comes over and realises Dana’s feeling left out. Dana says it’s always been her and Harper. Shortly after, Xander follows Dana from the building. Dana wants to go to the hospital, look at the scan and then pretend to be surprised. Xander asks what happens when she slips up. Kirby comes over wanting to ask them some questions about her marketing but Dana walks away and Kirby realises it’s bad timing. Xander follows Dana, suggesting they go upstairs and discuss it.
Rose tells Cash that Sarge wants them to organise extra patrols for a car rally. She is annoyed that he’s still looking at the Carl Hayes file. Cash reiterates that she’s not his boss and Rose replies that he’s not hers either, and if it was anyone else, he’d respect that it was her case. Cash says he’ll go and organise the patrols.
