Extended Summary

Levi meets up with Mackenzie outside the surf club and tells her about Bree withdrawing the complaint. Although pleased, he isn’t sure what to make of it. Meanwhile, Bree is cheerily pouring drinks while Remi tries to find out exactly what happened. Bree says she told the tribunal that she was stressed and needed time off. Remi thinks she still needs to fix things while Bree continues to insist there’s nothing to fix. Remi ends up walking out.

At the Diner, Marilyn greets Harper, who orders her usual decaf plus two lattes. Marilyn asks about Tane. Harper says he’s fine and, when Marilyn pushes, stresses that they’re not dating. Marilyn says it would be wonderful if the baby brought them together. At the Newman house, Tane suggests he call the person that called Perri to say he needs more time. Harper turns up with the coffees, wanting to talk about the case. Perri says he can’t deal with it right now and walks out. Harper asks Tane what’s going on.

Theo runs into Perri on the beach and asks how he’s going. Perri hopes helping him didn’t get Theo in trouble with his family. Theo says Leah supported him and now she’s off on her second honeymoon with Justin. Perri says he’s lucky to have her. Meanwhile, Tane has filled Harper in but all she can suggest is that it’s up to Perri. She says she’s been thinking about why Carl walked free before and says the case was down to Perri’s word against his. She suggests they might be able to find a witness from his old neighbourhood to back Perri up. Tane decides to go with her, feeling Perri needs his space.

Remi returns and apologises for snapping. Bree suggests they’re both stressed and kisses him, suggesting they take it to the bedroom. Remi doesn’t think that’s a good idea, since he’s still worried about her. He says she needs to own her mistakes and fix things. Bree agrees and walks out, although her detached manner doesn’t exactly reassure him. Down on the beach, Perri has filled Theo in. He asks what Theo would do. Theo says he’s never been in that situation and his family wouldn’t let him go through it alone. He apologises if that makes it worse but Perri accepts the situation.

Bree arrives at the Diner to see Marilyn and tells her she wants to apologise to her properly. Marilyn isn’t keen but Bree asks her to get someone to cover so they can go to Salt. Meanwhile, Remi is debating calling Bree when Theo turns up, having just walked Perri home. Remi says he’s not up for socialising and Bree stormed off after an argument. Theo convinces him to come for a drink.

Tane and Harper arrive back at the house and tell Perri what they’ve been doing. They found a couple of people that knew him but they wouldn’t talk. Perri says people knew but didn’t say anything, and if they had things might have been different. Harper produces a box, taped closed, that one of his neighbours kept when the landlord cleared the house out. Perri recalls Carl used to have it under his bed. He takes it to his room.

Mackenzie and Levi see Marilyn and Bree come into Salt together. Levi suggests today might have been a wake-up call. Bree tells Marilyn that doctors in emergency are under a lot of pressure but insists she, Levi and the rest of the team did everything they could for Alf. Marilyn disagrees, reminding Bree that she walked away. Bree tries to insist she was in control of the situation and that Alf’s fine but Marilyn says he nearly died because of her. Bree drops any attempt at politeness, asking Marilyn if that’s her professional opinion or something she saw in the tarot cards. Marilyn says she wanted Bree to own her mistake and tell the truth, but it’s clearly not going to happen.

Remi and Theo are approaching the surf club, with Theo relating what happened with Perri. Marilyn comes out and, after initially starting to walk on, tells Remi that Bree took her there saying she was going to apologise, then lied to and belittled her. Theo suggests a rain check on drinks. Upstairs, Bree asks Mackenzie to let her talk to Levi alone. She then makes an awkward apology to Levi, saying they used to be friends and she hopes they can get back to that. Remi comes upstairs and listens in as Levi cautiously agrees to put it behind them. Bree asks Levi if he can tell Remi they’ve sorted it. They then notice that Remi’s there.

Tane and Harper have finished dinner. Harper worries that they haven’t heard from Perri but Tane says he’ll come out when he’s hungry. Harper says she’ll still try and find Perri’s old teachers and Tane agrees it only takes one person to come forward. He shows Harper out. In his room, Perri tears the tape off the box. In it, he finds an old passport, a ball, a number of items that look like they were made by a child and a photo of himself as a baby with his mother. Later, he goes to Tane and says the box was full of things he made for his parents in kindergarten, showing him a drawing he did of his family. He wonders if Carl keeping it means he loved him once and says he’s decided he needs to give Carl a proper send-off.

Remi and Bree arrive back at the house. Bree queries Remi giving her the silent treatment. Remi says they never get far when they do talk. Bree thinks her conversation with Levi is proof she was trying to fix things. Remi asks how having a go at Marilyn is fixing things. Bree breaks off and goes to cook something.

Later, Remi interrupts her, suggesting she reconsider going to a counsellor, and confirms he doesn’t trust her. He says she can’t just apologise to tick boxes. Bree suggests that, if she’s a problem, they shouldn’t be together.
