Extended Summary

Rose is with the other police officers outside the surf club. She gets a call from the sergeant and tells him there’s still just been the one sighting so they’ll do another sweep and then start escorting people home. Meanwhile, Cash and Wickham are sat at opposite sides of the Newman living room, with Wickham having the gun laid on the table in front of him. Wickham says he needs to know Stevie’s dead. Cash says she is but Wickham says he knows the ambulance took her away. Cash says she died in hospital but Wickham says there’s nothing on the news. Cash points to the blood-soaked clothes, prompting Wickham to grab the gun and insist Cash is lying.

Alf gets Nelson a water and asks about Troy. Nelson says he’s lying down on his own and Alf thinks that’s best for everyone. Rose turns up and tells them there’s been no sightings of the gunman since Tane encountered him: She tells Alf that Tane’s being checked over in hospital but is all right and the judge in his case is aware. Nelson asks about Stevie and Rose says she didn’t make it before announcing they’re taking people with children and dependents home first. Alf asks Nelson if he’s all right and he says he isn’t.

At the hospital, Eden asks Bree about Levi and she says he’s checking on Tane and then going home. Remi comes back from viewing Stevie’s body: He isn’t sure if he’s all right. Bree gets a call from Nelson and moves aside to take it: He’s at Salt and confirms Rose told him Stevie’s dead. Bree says they did everything they could. Nelson wants to see her and asks when she’s finishing work. Looking over at Remi, Bree says she’ll call when she’s free. Nelson notes he has difficult phone calls with the producers and Stevie’s agent. After he’s ended the call, Rose reminds him not to tell anyone until they’ve spoken to the family. Mackenzie and Xander come up and Nelson tells them Stevie’s dead. Rose says there’s a media blackout on the fact.

Eden leaves a message for Cash and tells Bree she’s going to check on him. She suggests to Remi that they go home but he doesn’t respond. Bree says she’ll stay with him and warns Eden they still don’t know where the gunman is. Meanwhile, Wickham is convinced he’s failed since there’s no-one talking about it. Cash tries to explain about the media blackout. Wickham demands Cash take him to the hospital to see. At that point, Eden arrives and Cash takes advantage of the distraction to wrestle Wickham to the floor and pin him down. Eden calls the police.

At Salt, Alf chats to Mackenzie and Xander as Mackenzie gets a text from Levi about Tane being okay. Alf checks on Nelson. Rose gets a phone call saying Cash has the gunman and hurries out. At the hospital, Bree tries to give Remi a coffee. He sees Stevie’s body brought through and walks away, saying it’s wrong. Before Bree can follow, Nelson appears and they hug.

Rose arrives at the Newman house where Wickham is being restrained by two other officers. She chats to Cash and Eden, as Wickham says the film got it wrong and no-one should have survived. Rose tells him he’s under arrest for murder. Wickham is delighted to hear that Stevie actually is dead and apologises to Cash for not believing him as he’s led away. Cash and Eden arrange to come in tomorrow to give statements. Rose tells Cash he did good.

Bree takes Nelson back to her flat and says Rose called: Cash is fine and the gunman’s in custody. Nelson says one minute everyone was happy and he’ll never forget the sound of the gunshot…and the worst thing is he’s got it on film. He apologises for putting this on Bree when Cash and Remi must be wrecks.

Cash is on the phone to his boss and is furious to hear that a mistrial was declared because somebody liked a social media post and that a woman died on his watch because he didn’t have all the information. He tells Eden that he should have been there. Eden says they all thought the guy was locked up. Remi arrives and says Cash had one job and he failed. Eden tries to stop him but Cash says he’s right. Remi says it’s on him.

Next morning, Rose greets Nelson and Bree as they emerge from her bedroom. She says Wickham’s locked up for good. Nelson notes he’s heard that before, then apologises. Rose says he’s going to jail for a long time. She adds that Stevie’s parents have been told and the media blackout has been lifted. Nelson realises he has to go and explain to the producers. After he’s gone, Rose checks Bree’s all right.

Cash is looking at a laptop and tells Eden the news about Stevie is everywhere. He gets a text from the security company wanting him to come to the city for an internal investigation. He says he had one job and failed and needs to know why. Eden reminds him they’re meant to be giving statements and Cash says he’ll swing by the station on his way. Eden says the guy should never have been allowed free, Cash and Stevie should have been told that he was, and he did his best. Cash says his best wasn’t good enough. On the beach, Alf finds a discarded call sheet from the film. A section is cordoned off and people are leaving flowers next to one of Stevie’s movie posters by it.

In Salt, Eden comments to Xander that Summer Bay feels like a ghost town. She wonders what happened to Tane. Mackenzie, who has just come out, says the judge postponed the case. She asks Eden how she and Cash are after last night. Eden doesn’t answer and asks Xander if her coffee’s ready. Rose and Bree come up; Bree feels Nelson deserves someone who can be there for him 100%. She asks Eden about Remi. Eden says she left him with Bree and next minute he turned up having a go at Cash, and he’s not answering her calls. She tells Rose she’s going to go to the station to make her statement. Rose says she’s goings to check on Cash. Eden tells her he’s already gone to the city and blames himself for Stevie’s death. On the beach, Alf and Remi see more people laying flowers. Alf asks Remi how he is.

Remi goes home and finds Bree in the house. She says she was leaving a note and was worried about him. Remi says he’s fine. Bree says he’s going to push everyone away. Remi asks why she cares when they split up. Bree says she cares for him.
