Extended Summary
Alf is bewildered to find people running around in a panic towards the surf club. Troy tells him about Stevie being shot and doesn’t know if an ambulance has been called. Whilst helping to usher people inside, Alf calls for an ambulance and the police, saying a woman’s been shot on the beach and they don’t know where the shooter is.
Down below, Nelson sends the last stragglers up to the surf club. He thinks they should take Stevie with them but Cash says it’s too dangerous and sends Nelson with the others. Stevie tells Cash to go too but he insists on staying with her. Stevie says she’s scared. Cash tells her to keep breathing and keep her eyes open…and she promptly loses consciousness. Hearing sirens, Cash tells her help’s on the way.
At the hospital, Bree is giving instructions to a nurse. Levi appears and tells her he’s just had a successful meeting with the board. Bree’s response is somewhat muted and she explains they have an unstable gunshot victim on the way in. Levi offers to help out. Cash appears first and tells them it’s Stevie, just before a paramedic wheels her in, admitting what they’ve given her hasn’t done much.
At the Lyrik house, Felicity complains about not being allowed to accompany Tane to court. Eden says it’s his choice and Felicity wonders if she and Cash practice their lectures together. Remi comes in and Eden tells Felicity he has a hot date with Stevie. As Felicity teases Remi about it, Cash calls Eden, who locks and closes all the doors as they talk. She tells the others that Stevie’s been shot. Remi insists on going to the hospital. Eden decides to go with him and Felicity decides to go home and lock herself in.
The police have arrived outside the surf club. One of them gives instructions to his fellows, while another makes announcements over the speaker. Inside, Alf tells everyone the police are looking for the shooter. Nelson recalls Cash thought it was Sidney Wickham. Alf has heard Stevie made it to the hospital okay but nothing else. Nelson wonders why Wickham wasn’t locked up until his trial like he was supposed to be. Troy, who has been looking it up on his phone, says the news sites are reporting it was ruled a mistrial. He says Stevie brought it to their set. He and Nelson square up until Alf steps in.
At the Newman house, Felicity is on the phone to Xander. Neither of them has heard anything from Cash or Rose and she ends up telling him to keep everyone in Salt. She then rings Tane, who is in a park area, and checks he’s nowhere near the surf club. Tane says he went for a walk on the other side to clear his head. Felicity explains about the shooting and how the culprit hasn’t been caught. Tane sees Wickham with a rifle case and chases after him, not answering Felicity’s frantic shouts. Tane chases Wickham through the now abandoned coffee cart area and onto the beach. Wickham turns round and hits him across the head with the rifle. Tane falls to the floor, slipping into unconsciousness. Wickham sneers and walks off.
At the hospital, Bree and Levi check Stevie’s scans and note she has bleeding in the peritoneal cavity and the bullet went through the liver and large bowel. Bree decides to clamp the bleed to try and get her into theatre. Remi and Eden pile in, followed by Cash. Remi asks them if she’s going to be all right, asking Bree to promise she will. Levi shakes his head at her but Bree does so. After the others have gone, Levi says that was a big promise. Remi goes for a walk. Cash chides Eden for coming; she says Remi needed to be with Bree and she needed to see Cash. Cash learns Felicity is home alone.
Felicity is still trying to call Tane without response. She gets a call from Cash but doesn’t take it. Instead, she steels herself and goes out. She ends up following Tane’s old route through the coffee cart area and sees him on the beach, running to his side. Tane is starting to come round and Felicity asks what happened. He tells her it was the shooter. Felicity decides he needs to get to hospital, despite him rambling that he can’t be late for court.
Cash is washing blood off his hands. Remi returns with Eden and asks how the guy got out of prison. Cash says he doesn’t know and just got a call. Remi is incensed to learn he was at Salt instead of with Stevie when he’s meant to be her bodyguard. Cash gets a call from Felicity and says Tane’s hurt and he has to pick them up. Nearby, Bree is trying to resuscitate Stevie and orders another round of adrenaline. Levi points out it’s the fifth dose and wonders if she’d still be doing this if she hadn’t made a promise to someone she cares about. Bree insists on keeping going, saying she’s not going to go out there and tell Remi she failed. Meanwhile, Felicity is looking after Tane down by the beach. Cash pulls up and he and Felicity help Tane to the vehicle. Tane says he saw the shooter and Cash says he’ll let the police know.
Alf sits with Nelson at the surf club, asking if he’s heard any news. Nelson says he left his phone on the beach, so he wouldn’t know if he had. Alf points to Troy glued to his phone and notes Nelson can borrow his if he wants to call someone. Nelson admits that, apart from wanting to know how Stevie is, he doesn’t have anyone to call. Alf asks about Bree, saying it’s a small town. Nelson says it’s not secret, just new. Alf says he’s already checked with his lot. Troy declares that the news sites are saying there’s been no further sightings so wonders why they’re still there. Alf says they’re waiting for the all-clear from the police, not a journalist. Troy says he’s going to call his agent.
At the hospital, Remi is worrying about the lack of news, wondering how people cope with this waiting. Eden refers to Stevie as someone he cares about. Cash and Felicity arrive with Tane and Felicity fetches a nurse, who takes Tane away for treatment. Felicity decides to go and call Marshall. Not too far away, Bree declares Stevie dead at 1.04pm. Levi offers to tell Remi but Bree says they’re always told not to make promises and she has to own the fact she did. She reminds Levi it’s a coroner’s case. Bree goes to Remi, Cash and Eden and tells them Stevie didn’t make it. Remi asks to see her. Bree leads him through. Levi tells Remi he’s sorry for his loss and Bree to call if she needs anything. Remi asks for a minute alone.
Cash arrives home, carrying a bag full of bloodied clothes. Wickham emerges from another room with the rifle, saying Cash took his time coming home.
