Extended Summary

Alf and Roo walk along the beach with Alf wondering what will happen now Tane’s on the news. Roo is surprised it didn’t happen earlier. Alf thinks he was just trying to protect the baby but Roo thinks he still shouldn’t have done it. She notices Sonia sitting looking upset and sends Alf away while she goes over to her. Sonia tearfully says that she should never have abandoned her baby. Meanwhile, Tane continues to dote on Poppy as his cousin Kiri comes in and tells him to put the telly on. They watch the news report with pictures of Tane.

At the farm house, Mackenzie, Levi and Mali also watch the report, in which Callan is quoted as saying Tane is dangerous and shouldn’t be approached. Mackenzie wonders if Mali has heard anything from Rose and he says he hasn’t spoken to her since the search. He then gets a call from Tane and goes out of earshot to take it.

Rose takes Theo, Kirby and Eden to the station. Theo insists he hadn’t taken anything. Harper is there wanting to talk to Rose, who tells her to get in the line. She tells the trio their van and gear will be impounded and sends them for interviews and drug tests. Harper asks her about the news report. Rose says it raises public awareness while Harper thinks it stops Tane reaching out. Rose says Tane broke the law and Sonia deserves to have her baby back. Harper thinks Tane doesn’t deserve this and Rose thinks he does.

Roo has led Sonia to a bench and assures her she doesn’t think she’s a bad mother. Sonia says she was in a bad place ever since she gave birth. She says she just wanted a minute’s peace and left Poppy on the beach without thinking. By the time she realised what she’d done, it was too late. She worries Poppy’s in danger. Roo admits she knows the man who took Poppy, saing he was the one who found her and he won’t let anything happen to her.

Mackenzie confronts Mali about the phone call, having realised it was Tane. Mali admits Tane wants his passport but says he knows where he is now. They hear someone pulling up outside and Mackenzie sees that it’s Harper. Levi goes to wait in the bedroom before Mackenzie and Mali let Harper in. She says she’s not accusing them, but if they know where Tane is, they have to get him back there.

Tane shows Kiri out of the house, saying he doesn’t want him there if things go wrong. Harper and Mali pull up a moment later. Tane isn’t happy that Harper’s there but they promise there’s no police. Later, Harper checks on Poppy before saying Tane’s taken good care of her. Tane says “Maia” will be safe with him. Harper says that her name’s Poppy and her mother’s come forward; a DNA test has proved it. She can’t guarantee everything will be right for Poppy but this time her mother will have support. Mali asks how Tane thinks he can buy everything the baby needs and keep her hidden, sayig she need to be with her mother.

Rose reveals that Theo’s drug test is clear. Theo says the drugs are his but Rose says it’s not as simple as taking his word for it: All three of them will be charged with possession. She asks if they want to call someone. Theo doesn’t and Kirby says she couldn’t explain it to her mum. Eden doesn’t want to call Cash but admits there is someone else. At the farm house, Mackenzie and Levi discuss what has happened with Tane. Levi gets a call without ID. Mackenzie suggests it might be Imogen but Levi says she’s away at a conference. He answers the call, confirming he’s Eden’s brother.

Kirby and Eden are sat in a cell. Eden realises the drugs are the reason for all the hassle with Theo and Valerie and suggests they might not have ended up in a cell if Kirby had told her. Kirby says it wasn’t her place but is also really worried about Theo. Levi appears with a police officer and chides Eden. Meanwhile, Tane wonders how they can guarantee the baby won’t be abandoned again, saying she’ll end up back in the system. Mali points out Harper’s part of the system. Harper asks Tane how he thinks he can get out of the country, saying he needs to make this right.

At the Lyrik house, Kirby tells Theo they’re lucky Levi could bail them out. Theo thinks Valerie will have an explanation. Kirby says the pills mean more to Valerie than Theo does and Valerie needs to go back to the clinic, not have Theo enabling and joining her. Theo says she’d take off if he didn’t and he can’t leave her. Kirby says Valerie doesn’t care about him. Theo asks how he can make this up. Kirby says he can’t.

At Salt, Roo tells Sonia how everyone rallied around Poppy. Sonia says she saw the fundraiser on the news and wonders why she couldn’t have cared for her like that. Roo says to call her if she needs anything. They both leave as Levi and Eden turn up; Levi shoots Mackenzie a look. Eden assures Levi it was a misunderstanding and he says he’ll find her the best lawyer money can buy. Eden goes to order drinks and Mackenzie comments on her rough day. Eden asks how she knows and Mackenzie says she was eavesdropping.

Tane brings Poppy to the police station, followed by Mali and Harper. Officers go to intercept them but Rose waves them back and lets Tane take Poppy to where Sonia is waiting. He hands her over, to Sonia’s delight. Rose leads Tane out of the room (leaving Harper with Sonia and Poppy) and arrests him for kidnapping. Later, Harper visits Tane in his cell. She tries to get him to call a lawyer but Tane says there’s no point and he doesn’t care anyway.

Mackenzie follows Levi back to his car. He says Eden went home. He admits it’s getting harder and harder to leave Mackenzie behind. He kisses her…but Eden has just appeared next to them and calls Levi a cheating liar before walking away.
