Extended Summary
Justin and Kirby have just finished off a surf. John pulls up in his buggy and warns them to stay between the flags, thinking they were a bit close and standards have slipped in his absence. Kirby says no-one could live up to him and John says he’ll ignore the sarcasm because it’s true. After he’s driven on, Theo appears and they ask him about his mum. Theo is surprised to see the two together. Justin says they’ve been working together on music but Kirby cuts him off, telling Theo they’ll meet him at Salt. She explains to Justin that Theo put his heart and soul into the song and they can’t just tell him they’ve been changing it without him.
John meets up with Roo near the surf club. She asks him if he needs any help but John feels she’s saying he can’t cope, eventually suggesting she can clean the toilets if she wants. As John walks away, Alf appears, on the phone to someone that he says they’re better off without. Roo tries to talk to him but he fobs her off.
Cash is chopping logs out into the bush as Eden arrives with some twigs, wondering if they’re enough. Cash notes she’s obviously never been camping and explains they need fire to cook food which gives them energy for other things. He wonders if she’s hating it and Eden says she enjoys spending time with him wherever they are. Cash thanks her for liking him enough to be that cheesy.
Theo has ordered some coffees at Salt. Justin and Kirby join him and Justin explains about them working on the song together. Kirby explains he found the lyrics by accident. Theo notes the wedding isn’t going to happen now, although Justin is still confident of getting back on track, and says he’s fine with it. Justin says he knew he would be, although Kirby doesn’t seem entirely convinced.
Theo heads downstairs and John remarks that he heard about Leah. Theo asks how he knows and John replies that he didn’t know it was a secret but understands her needing a break; Theo cottons on. He then runs into Remi and tells him about Justin taking over co-writing the song with Kirby. Remi similarly notes he’s just lied to his girlfriend. Theo offers him a beer and they head back upstairs. At the Diner, Roo complains to Irene and Marilyn about John not letting her help out at the surf club. Neither of them are surprised but Roo says it was nice having something to do and she thinks her skillset can help the club.
Back up in Salt, Remi explains to Theo that he thought Bree only wanted to go for a couple of weeks or a month, not a year. He assures him he’s not going but isn’t keen on going back on encouraging Bree to try new things. Theo says he can’t string her along. Kirby turns up and Remi leaves Theo and her to talk. Kirby apologises for not telling him but didn’t think she could say no to Justin. Theo again tries to say it doesn’t matter. Kirby suggests they play it for him so he can see there’s still a lot of his song left in there.
At the Diner, Bree fills in Irene, Roo and Marilyn on her plans for Doctors Without Borders and how Remi is planning to go with her. She gets a text from him and heads off. Roo decides to take a leaf out of her book and show Alf and John what an asset she is to the surf club, She turns up at the club but breaks off from her spiel when she finds Alf brooding in the office. He says he’s had his third resignation letter from a committee member in a week, this one saying they’re going in different directions.
Remi and Bree are walking through a park with Bree hyped up talking about how enthusiastic the Diner ladies were and how Levi has agreed to write her a reference. Remi cuts her off, saying he thought they’d only be gone a couple of months and he can’t be away from Lyrik for a year. Subdued, Bree suggests this is the reality check she needs and she should concentrate on her job at Northern Districts. She decides to have an early night and says goodbye.
Eden turns on some music through the car and convinces Cash to dance with her. He asks if she’s trying to seduce him and she asks if it’s working. After a few moments of intimate dancing, Cash turns off the music and drags her to the tent. Eden is a bit bothered by noises outside but Cash convinces her to ignore them.
At the Lyrik house, Justin and Kirby are showing Theo what they’ve written. Theo acknowledges it has a stronger lead-in. They offer to let him hear it and say he can still work on it with them. Remi comes home and Theo follows him aside for a private chat. Remi tells him about Bree’s decision and says he doesn’t feel good about being the reason she’s given up her dream. He asks if Theo has told Justin and Kirby how he feels and Theo says he doesn’t know where to start.
Next morning, Remi turns up at the Diner flat with coffee. He tells Bree that he thinks she should go without him. Bree asks what that will mean for them. Remi is confident they can make it work. At the surf club, Roo finds Alf in the office with the door closed. There haven’t been any more resignations but he’s heard rumblings and notes some noses have been put out of joint by him going over the committee’s head. John turns up to talk about Xander’s fundraiser. Alf pretends they were talking about Martha and brushes John aside.
Cash and Eden wake up together in the tent. Cash comments on her still being there and Eden says she’s enjoying the camping now they’ve learned how to keep each other warm. They start kissing but then Cash finds a tick in her neck, which is enough to have Eden rushing out of the tent in a panic. Meanwhile, Remi finds Justin by the beach. Justin comments on everything changing with the wedding and Remi wonders why two people can’t want the same thing at the same time. He also tells Justin that Theo isn’t as all right about the song as he’s made out.
Eden is sitting on the back of the ute as Cash prepares to slowly pull the tick out with tweezers. Eden asks why he likes camping. Cash recalls how, when his dad died, everything was about keeping Felicity happy, but every now and then, he and Gary would go camping on their own for a few days and he realised later that it gave him a chance to take the pressure off and just be a kid. He says he’s sorry Eden hasn’t enjoyed it.
