Extended Summary

Remi continues to play his way through Lyrik’s back catalogue to an appreciative crowd as Bree sidles up to Eden. Someone videos the set and Eden draws Remi’s attention to the fact it’s Forrest. He reminds Remi he’s in breach of copyright, saying this is his last warning and he’ll be in court next time. After Forrest’s gone, Bree tells Remi it was great hearing him play. Eden asks if it was worth it. Remi says that, aside from the potential lawsuits, it was.

Tane asks Felicity why she did the meeting without him, saying Cash told him about her meetings with the facilitator. Felicity tries to change the subject and ask about Gemma but eventually snaps that it wasn’t about him. Eden turns up and Tane goes in the shower. Later, Eden tries to suggest Tane will get his head around it and Felicity explains he’s most disappointed that she didn’t talk to him about it. She says she was going to but hadn’t got around to it. She gets a call from Cash and goes outside to answer it. Tane comes back in and Eden tells him that what Felicity did was brave and to remember that.

Kirby meets with Forrest up in Salt and tells him she hasn’t quite decided on the song for her first single yet but she’s narrowed it down to three. Forrest’s attention is initially on his phone as he sends an e-mail but he eventually tells Kirby he wants to announce her solo career.

Back at the Lyrik house, Remi confirms that playing made him feel like himself again, Bree suggests he plays for her but Remi says playing for a crowd and earning money is all part of it. Eden comes home and she and Remi reflect on not being able to play their own songs. Bree suggests writing some new material. At the garage, Justin has filled Leah in on Theo considering returning to his apprenticeship. They remind Theo that he’d need a new supervisor, since Justin isn’t allowed to do it, and have to go back to TAFE. Theo gets an alert on his phone which seems to leave him uncomfortable.

Bree tries to convince Remi and Eden they’re amazing musicians and songwriters. Remi says Eden’s the songwriter and Eden says she’s done one song. Bree tries to tell them they’ll put all this behind them. Remi interrupts the speech to tell Eden to check her socials: Kirby leaving Lyrik for a solo career has just been announced. Back at the garage, Justin, Leah and Theo reflect on the fact it was always going to happen. Justin and Theo are both happy for Kirby, and Theo sees it as a sign that he should go back to the apprenticeship.

Remi and Eden are in a similarly despondent mood as they look over the response on socials, with some people seeing it as the end of Lyrik and others wondering what will happen to them now. Remi also rejects a call from Mercedes while Eden wonders if it’s Forrest’s response to Remi breaking the copyright. Bree makes another attempt to lift their spirits and suggests they go out for a meal.

Forrest and Kirby are drinking a celebratory toast, although Kirby wonders if she should have told her friends about the announcement. Forrest says now they have to pick her single and there’s a meeting with the label in the morning. Remi, Eden and Bree come in. Bree tries to convince Remi and Eden to go over and congratulate her but they both feel she’s shown their friendship means nothing to her. They both leave, with Bree saying she’ll get a takeaway and see them at home.

Felicity catches up with Tane about seeing Nikau and Bella, and Gemma being on the mend. He tells her he’d have supported her if he’d known what was going on. Felicity replies that he’d have tried to protect her and to talk her out of it, and she couldn’t deal with his feelings on top of her own. Tane heads to bed. Back at Salt, Forrest asks Kirby who Bree is and says she’s coming over. Bree congratulates Kirby over the deal but defends Remi and Eden, saying they’ve had a difficult day. Forrest goes to pay the bill, while Bree encourages Kirby to make things up with her friends.

Next morning, Leah serves Justin and Theo at the coffee cart: They are heading to TAFE to re-enroll Theo. They run into Kirby and both congratulate her on the deal. Justin also encourages her to make things up with Eden and Remi. At the Lyrik house, Eden continues to be despondent about the reaction on social media. Remi comes in and tells her about Theo going back to TAFE. Neither of them blame him, but feel he’s given up. Bree again tries to encourage them to write new material and suggests they go away for a while to do it. Remi suggests going to his parents’ holiday home. Bree is surprised they have one and Eden says she hasn’t been there in years: They used to go there with friends to work on ideas.

Tane comes home, having gone out early to catch up at the gym. Felicity asks him to understand her decision. Tane understands she did what she needed to do but tells her there can’t be any more secrets: They have to be in the marriage as a team. Meanwhile, Remi and Eden are about to leave for their trip away when Kirby turns up. Neither are pleased to see her. Kirby points out Remi was happy for her at first. Remi says she didn’t just go solo, she hung Lyrik out to dry and they have no songs. Kirby is confused as Eden says the copyright move was a slap in the face and they all worked on those songs. Neither are in the mood to hear her explanations and leave.

Kirby runs into Bree at the surf club and tells her she had no idea about the copyright issues and is aghast that anyone would ever think she was a part of it. Bree points out that the album’s been removed from streaming, their gigs have been cancelled and they can’t play the songs in public, asking what they were supposed to think.

Upstairs, Justin congratulates Forrest on the solo announcement. Forrest says Theo could have been next but Justin accepts Theo’s decision. Kirby comes in as Justin leaves and tells Forrest he’s screwed over her friends and had no right.
