Extended Summary

Mercedes is sat outside the surf club. Cash approaches and asks about her bike; she takes a few moments to look up and notice he’s a police officer. Cash explains it’s illegally parked. Mercedes says she’s keeping an eye on her violin but Cash says to take it off the bike, warning her she could get a fine. Remi steps in and promises to make sure she moves it. He tells Mercedes that Cash is Eden’s boyfriend and Mercedes notes things have changed. Remi tries to convince her to stay, suggesting they go upstairs to talk. At the Diner flat, Mali concludes he’s said the wrong thing again. Rose says it’s not a case of ticking boxes. Mali says he wasn’t willing to compromise last time. Rose says she can’t trust that he won’t do the same thing again and asks for some space.

Cash arrives home and checks there’s no-one about before taking Andrew’s file out of his bag. Felicity comes in and guesses what it is, although Cash doesn’t tell her anything. Eden turns up in a huff as Felicity leaves for work. Cash asks her what’s going on and Eden says Remi’s made a bad call. At Salt, Remi tries to get Mercedes to sort things out with Eden. Felicity turns up and is introduced to Mercedes, being impressed with her bike. Remi explains Felicity is Eden’s best friend. Bree turns up and Remi leaves her with Mercedes while he gets drinks. Mercedes notes Remi’s never gone for a surfer before.

Eden complains to Cash that Mercedes has Remi wrapped round her finger. Cash recalls meeting her. Eden says Mercedes caused problems for the band before. She notes that if she refuses to accept Mercedes, then Remi will hate her, but if he does, they’ll have to rehearse all the time. Meanwhile, Bree tells Mercedes the only instruments she’s played were recorder in Year 3 and guitar lessons with Remi, and explains she’s a doctor. Mercedes asks how she and Remi got together. Bree says they started off as friends and he helped her through some heavy stuff. Mercedes tells her how Remi got expelled: He borrowed the school rugby team’s minibus to take a group of students to a gig. The headmaster greeted them on their return and Remi said whatever punishment was worth it. At the bar, Remi chats to Felicity about missing Tane. Felicity wonders if Mercedes would be up for a night out. Remi asks if Mercedes can stay at hers and she agrees since Nikau’s old room is free.

Eden tells Cash that it’s a big opportunity and she doesn’t want Mercedes to stuff it up. She realises she’s been ranting non-stop. Felicity chooses that point to turn up and announce Mercedes as their temporary housemate. Across the road, Remi tells Bree that he’s hoping it will give Mercedes and Eden some space. Bree asks Remi just how close he and Mercedes have been. Remi says they’ve never hooked up.

Felicity tells Cash and Eden that she didn’t know the full story with Mercedes when she invited her to stay. Mercedes emerges from her new (temporary) room and offers a bottle of wine. Felicity happily accepts but Cash declines and Eden says she’d rather drink poison. Mercedes ssays that can be arranged. Eden heads back home and complains to Remi about him moving Mercedes into her boyfriend’s place. Remi points out Eden didn’t want her at theirs. Eden suggests she could have stayed at a caravan or a motel or hell. Remi says this is free and close by for rent. Bree comes in as Remi leaves and checks on Eden.

Irene serves Rose a takeaway at the Diner and suspects she’s thinking about Mali…who walks in at that precise moment. Rose quickly retreats, saying she’ll text him when she’s ready to talk. Mali tells Irene that Rose doesn’t trust him. Irene suggests he prove he’s serious. Mali goes up to the flat and convinces Rose to let him in. He insists that he’s not going anywhere and will fight for them. Rose takes his hands and kisses him.

Felicity and Mercedes chat about her not being a typical violin player. Eden returns and goes to talk to Cash out on the porch. She asks to stay over. Cash is looking at Andrew’s file, admitting he can’t stop thinking about the case. He kisses her. Meanwhile, Mali and Rose are in bed together. Mali says he’s missed this and Rose agrees, saying they have some growing up to do.

Next morning, Remi, Eden and Mercedes are setting up for rehearsal. Mercedes checks she and Felicity didn’t keep Eden awake talking. After Remi and Mercedes have gone inside, Bree asks Eden about the feud. Eden says Mercedes tried to poach Remi from Lyrik while they were arguing over Bob and worries she’ll do it again. She says Mercedes and Remi click and Mercedes is talented but has no moral compass. Meanwhile, Felicity asks Cash about the files, saying she’s lived with police officers her whole life and knows they don’t often take their work home. Cash gets a call from Rose and goes outside to take it.

Felicity follows him out and Cash explains the taskforce have turned up at the police station. He’s worried they know he’s got the files and admits he’s been taken off the case, deciding to head in to check. He arrives at the station where Rose tells him the taskforce have been and gone. They found a body in a suitcase at a storage facility; DNA tests confirmed it was Andrew’s mother, dead at least ten years. Although the cause of death is unknown, Cash concludes someone in the cult murdered her.
