Extended Summary

Bree has just been served at the coffee cart when Remi and Kirby turn up, having just got back to town. Remi is rather excited after the trip while Kirby leaves them to it, since she has to meet up with Theo. Bree jokes that she didn’t miss Remi much. Theo is waiting at the Lyrik house. Kirby is unhappy with him for disappearing on her and isn’t in the mood to talk. She says she has to get to the Diner and agrees to Theo walking with her.

At Salt, Mackenzie checks Xander’s okay. He’s reluctant to leave things like that with Kate and suggests texting her. Rose turns up, saying all her cases are dead ends at the moment. Mackenzie apologises for not inviting her to the party. Rose says Mali came round and explained everything. She gets a phone call that surprises her. Later, she tells Xander it was Elandra, who wanted her to sort out her “idiot brother” and thought he still liked her. She insists it changes nothing. Kate comes in and Xander goes to talk to her. Rose realises who she is.

Xander and Kate head down the beach. Kate apologises for earlier. Xander says he understands. She says Xander’s been kind to her and was a good friend to Jamie. Xander says Jamie was a good friend to him too. Kate asks to keep talking. Meanwhile, Remi and Bree arrive at the surf club. Remi is giving chapter and verse on the three times he saw the band. Rose greets them and Bree stops Remi giving her the same speech. Rose goes over to Mali, who tells her he told his mum and she lost it. He shrugs off questions about the rest of the family and goes to sort out a delivery.

Theo and Kirby arrive at the Diner with Kirby unimpressed by his explanation about Andrew. She says she loves that he cares but there are professionals helping Andrew and she thinks Lyrik should be his priority. She also brings up him voting against her. Theo reminds her Remi gave her an out. Kirby walks away. Later, Theo is still sat at the Diner hoping Kirby will talk to him but Kirby says she can’t take a break. Theo suggests he doesn’t stay at hers tonight to give her space and Kirby agrees.

Xander and Kate are chatting at Salt. She says she has to pick up Timothy from his mum’s but still has questions and suggests they meet up the next day. Mackenzie asks Mali about seeing his brothers and sisters but he dodges the question. Out on the balcony, Remi tells Bree that the band had an AV display: He thinks that might have swung the judges and thinks Lyrik need to do something to stand out. He realises Bree is tired and not really paying attention so decides to take her home.

Xander arrives back at the flat. Rose is debating whether to call Elandra, wondering whether it’s her or Mali that thinks he made a mistake breaking up with her. She asks about him meeting up with Jamie’s wife. Xander thinks she’s hoping talking to him will give her closure. Rose suggests it might help him too. Meanwhile, Bree joins Remi in his bed and invites him to talk about his plan. Remi says he knows a violinist, Mercedes, who might be willing to play with them. He senses Bree still isn’t fully engaged. She explains she lost a patient today and needs time to process. Remi feels bad.

Next morning, Mackenzie and Mali are walking near the surf club. Mali admits Elandra criticised him for breaking up with Rose. Mackenzie suspects she’s planted a seed of doubt. Xander approaches and tells them about Elandra calling Rose. Mali goes to see Rose at the flat and tells her Xander let him know about the call. Rose suggests they talk.

Xander and Kate have met at Salt. She comments that she only woke up twice last night instead of five or six times. She asks about that last day. Xander says Jamie spent most of his time on the phone trying to arrange a birthday present for her. Kate recalls birthdays meant a lot to him. Xander says he often talked about her. Mackenzie watches the conversation.

Kirby is setting up at the coffee cart. Theo appears and they both apologse for the previous day. Kirby says she’ll get over it eventually. Theo wonders if they’re going to bite each other’s heads off until then and suggests they take a step back for a while. Kirby is upset and says it’s over.

Bree wakes up alone and hears guitar playing in the front room. She finds Remi practising. He notes she looked like she could use the sleep and she thanks him. Remi offers her breakfast. Bree says it’s probably closer to lunchtime but agrees she could do with something to eat. She says she’ll get dressed and go and get them some coffees. Remi apologises about not realising something was up yesterday. He then gets a phone call and tells the person he has an idea to run past them.

Mali admits he hasn’t been able to move on. He says he and Rose still have some big differences but also have a lot in common. They go to kiss…and then Kirby rushes in, in tears, saying she and Theo have broken up.
