Extended Summary

Walking near the beach, Rose tells Xander she enjoyed undercover work. Xander asks if it was weird pretending to be Cash’s fiance and Rose says she was fine with it. They see Stacey training a class and Xander awkwardly waves to her. He and Stacey go and talk to each other, with Xander saying they’re still friends and suggesting they have dinner tonight.

At the surf club, Tane is on the phone trying to arrange a country venue but learns there’s a twelve month waiting list. John protests that he’s arranged permits for the beach and that’s what it said on the invite. Tane says there’s been a last minute change of plan. John complains about the public wasting his time and Alf says that’s how they feel about his neighbourhood watch updates. Dean comes in and announces he’s joining John’s team. John says he already has a full team and Dean tells him to kick someone off. On learning Dean’s never played, John says Justin’s got a space on his team.

Kirby and Theo are playing video games at the Morgan house. Kirby wonders if Theo let her win and Theo says it’s so she doesn’t feel so bad when he beats her tomorrow. Kirby reminds him he said winning didn’t matter. Justin comes in and says those are the words of a loser. He apologises but is frustrated that they don’t have a full team and tells them about his bet with John, saying not to tell Leah. Dean arrives and announce he’s on the team. Despite Dean never having played, Justin is desperate enough to accept. He says they’re going to do a walk round the course as a rehearsal but Dean declines to join them, agreeing with Theo’s comment about him just winging it.

Stacey turns up at the surf club and Tane asks her to stay on and close up the gym for him, explaining a wedding has just been cancelled so he needs to check out the venue for his own wedding…in two weeks’ time. Stacey says she’ll have to go at 7pm because she’s having dinner with someone. Tane accepts it. Stacey doesn’t seem too happy.

At the Diner, Alf and Marilyn discuss preparations. Roo comes in, finishing a phone call, saying Ryder spoke to his boss who has donated a $5000 cruise voucher. John comes in with some balloons, saying he wants to know which buggy they’re using so he can decorate it for team morale. Marilyn tells him number three as Justin comes in. John winds up Justin about having Dean on his team, while Justin winds him up about his plan for a walk round.

Justin watches as Theo plays a shot, impressing him. John, Kirby and Rose turn up, with Kirby and Rose noting their own walk-round was news to them and John’s called an emergency team meeting. Theo and Kirby react wearily to John and Justin’s sniping. Rose sinks the ball. Justin tries to get Theo to say he’s better than her but Theo says it’s anyone’s game. Theo, Kirby and Rose head back to the surf club. Kirby and Rose suggest if Theo was chivalrous then he’d throw the game. Theo tries to get Dean to back him up but Dean doesn’t care about the team, saying he just wants the car, and has no idea what a handicap is.

Upstairs, Stacey complains to Xander about Tane getting her to work over. Xander says weddings need organising and Stacey says that’s why she’s not having one. Xander goes to get drinks. Theo, Kirby and Rose come up. Theo offers to get drinks and the others jokingly accuse him of trying to give them hangovers. Rose goes over to Stacey and accuses her of leading Xander on. Xander steps in and suggests he and Stacey leave.

Alf, Marilyn and Roo are doing organising at the Diner. John comes in to buy muffins for his team tomorrow. Marilyn mentions the holiday voucher and John dreams of seeing the world on someone else’s money. Marilyn and Roo say he was generous to make the bet with Justin but John replies that Justin will be the one paying up.

Xander and Stacey have retired to his flat. Stacey comments on a hot man making her mojitos at his beachside apartment. They kiss but are interrupted by Rose, who sarcastically comments on them being just friends before going to bed. Stacey suggests they do the same but Xander doesn’t think it’s a good idea and is beginning to think they shouldn’t hang out. Stacey leaves.

Theo and Kirby are kissing at the Morgan house. Theo suggests they have a golf bet of their own…and not a money one, which Kirby suggests would be a win-win situation. Justin comes home and Theo is surprised he’s not in bed already. Justin says he was going over the course in his head and advises them to get some rest, before disappearing.

Next morning, John, Justin, Rose, Theo and Kirby are among those gathered for the golf tournament, with Alf manning a stall. Dean quietly asks Roo what he has to do to win the car and Roo says he has to get around the course with the least amount of shots. Marilyn says the winner will be announced at Salt later, before opening events. Kirby and Rose are impressed with John’s decorated golf buggy but John is unable to start it. Justin, setting off with Dean and Theo, says John’s tea, will have to lug their golf clubs around the course. Kirby quickly decides they’ll do that rather than waste time trying to start the buggy.

Stacey goes round to see Xander and asks what happened last night, saying he was into it until Rose turned up. Xander says if they’re just going to be friends, they shouldn’t be kissing or talking about going to bed together. Stacey walks out. At the surf club, Tane is on the phone. He thanks Stacey for covering for him but asks her to cover for him again so he can sort out new invites. Stacey agrees but seems even less happy.

Kirby manages to sink the ball; Justin, Theo and Dean are watching. Kirby thanks Rose for the lessons but annoys John by referring to her club as a stick. They stay and watch as Dean manages to sink the ball in one shot. Theo thanks John for the recruit. John tries to call it beginners’ luck. At the surf club, Xander presents Stacey with a juice as a peace offering. He apologises if he confused her. Stacey says she’s finished work for now but has to cover for Tane later. She admits things are getting under her skin more than they used to.

John tells Kirby and Rose that the buggy was working last night. Kirby suggests the decorations affected it. Justin, Theo and Dean drive past with Justin mocking them. John ponders that Justin’s a mechanic and their buggy isn’t working, asking police officer Rose if her gut says they’ve been sabotaged.
